The battle for free speech is heating up, with governments cracking down on what people can say.
In Scotland, new hate crime laws have sparked a fierce debate around free speech.
Famed author JK Rowling has spoken out against these laws, and even dared Scottish police to arrest her.
People across the world are concerned these types of laws will limit freedom of speech.

It boils down to what you mean by man. If you mean "adult human male" then sure, trans women are biological men. But in my eyes and many others, being a man is more than being an "adult human male". It has social expectations and norms attached that are not for everyone. We see terms like "manchild", "sissy", and "bitch" used to basically suggest someone isn't a "real man". When we have language like that I think it suggests people have to DO certain things to "qualify" as a man/woman. Personally I see trans women as women, and trans men as men. I use their preferred pronouns without thinking when I interact with them and I don't view them as any less. Having said that, I see trans women as MALE, and I see trans men as FEMALE. That is their biological SEX, which is defined by their karyotype at the point of conception and cannot be changed. I think I am showing respect to the science, showing respect to trans people, and showing respect to the language used in everyday life with this approach.

I work in heathcare, was assessing a young person who was transgender, who had come in with abdominal pain. This person was truly quite androgenous, I really couldn't work out if I was dealing with a biological man or a woman. As it was medically relevent, I asked "What was your assigned sex at birth" Well. For the response I got, you'd think that I'd just walked into a synagogue and made a holocaust joke. Instantly aggressive, instantly giving me "how dare you"s. I explained that it was highly relevant, given that this person had come in with lower abdominal pain. An hour later, I was discharging this person who was clearly having menstrual cramps, but refusing to acknowledge the very normal bodily function that was taking place, as it no longer suited their social self-image. Waste of everybody's time
