I don't think any other game has such a stable lore to it than Battletech. As far as I know every game such as 40k has had their lore redone or altered at least twice while BT hasn't.

@@valor1omega In fairness, 40k lore hasn't been redone post Rogue Trader so much as "added onto"... while BT has done the same thing (looking at you Jihad and Dark Age). BT has better centralized lore than 40k though (mostly because the Sphere is a LOT smaller/more interconnected than the 40k galaxy).

@@LoreReloaded I missed it somehow! I'll definitely check the back catalogue. Either way great video. FWL has a very interesting history and most people from the video games only know FedSuns and LA. I'd love to see a breakdown of what went wrong with the Jihad some day, I feel like the Word of Blake had the FWL PERFECTLY positioned to be used as a puppet state, made powerful by trade and being untouched by war, and instead just.. shot all that in the foot abruptly. I really don't like where Dark Ages took the timeline.

well battletech was 'cheap' to make since it was at least initially an asset flip from Macros, so they just needed to make up a story to fit the artwork they were getting from the already established franchises

@@AsbestosMuffins It was a bit more involved than just making up a simple story. (And they didn't just draw from Macros, either). As a start, in relation to this video, you can find a pdf of the House Marik sourcebook online. Its 168 pages cover centuries of history for the Free World's League, its military organization, government, culture, and more. FASA made similar sourcebooks for each of the other main realms, and for the Star League which proceeded them. There were a lot of other materials, too. There were smaller sourcebooks for other organizations, like mercenary units. There were update books, to show changes as time passed. There was a book which listed all the military factories, and what was made at each one. Not just completed mechs and tanks, mind you, but components. So if you wanted to know which factory produced a specific model communications array, you could find it. And then there were all the novels. So yes, world building was huge in Battletech. Doing all that was not cheap. And little of it contributed directly to game play.

I have always believed that BTech’s history and lore is far more developed and diverse than even Star Wars.. The Age of War. The Reunification War. The Hidden Wars during the Star League. The Amaris Coup. The Four Succession Wars. The Clan Invasion. The FedCom Civil War. The Jihad. The Republic Era. The Dark Ages. Now the ilClan is soon coming. So much diversity in such a great game.

By the point in the setting's history where this video ends, there's at least a half-dozen relevant factions that haven't even been formed yet, and we're still generations before we get to the Amaris Coup and the Star League Civil War that event caused.

@@LoreReloaded Nope. Definitely not. The gem in hegemony is pronounced the same as in gemstone. Also, combine as a noun has the emphasis on the first syllable and Ares is pronounced the same as Aries.
