When the golden eagle watches for prey while gliding over its hunting ground, hardly flapping its wings, snow and black grouse, groundhogs, hares and other animals had better watch out. Even the quick kestrel can't escape when the golden eagle has it in its sights. The fox and the common raven may be more intelligent than the golden eagle, but if they aren't careful they might also end up as a meal for the young eagles in the eyrie. The golden eagle is an extremely crafty hunter: optimally exploiting all cover, it glides close to the ground over knolls and low hills along hillsides and attempts to surprise its prey from a short distance. When it spies prey, it swoops down onto it in a nosedive. The eagle has already killed the surprised prey before it even realises what is happening to it.
This documentary gives an intimate portrait of this large bird of prey and tracks the birth and coming of age of two Golden Eagle chicks in the High Tatra Mountains, from the hatching of the eggs, until the moment when the young birds leave the nest. Tragic and funny moments make this movie an entertaining trip into the treetops of the European forests.

Some Fascinating Facts about these revered birds of prey: 1. Golden eagles use their agility and speed combined with powerful feet and massive, sharp talons to snatch up a variety of prey, mainly hares, rabbits, and marmots and other ground squirrels. 2. The golden eagle is one of the best-known birds of prey in the Northern Hemisphere. Specifically, the location of our documentary: Northern Scandinavia 3. They build large nests in cliffs and other high places to which they may return for several breeding years. Most breeding activities take place in the spring; they are monogamous and may remain together for several years or possibly for life. 4. For centuries, this species has been one of the most highly regarded birds used in falconry. Due to its hunting prowess, the golden eagle is regarded with great mystic reverence in some ancient, tribal cultures. 5. The female Golden Eagle typically lays 4 eggs; usually only 1-2 baby eagles survive until the Fall, when they take flight to establish their own territories. We’ve got furry creatures, beautiful mountainous landscape and magnificent birds. What more could you want on a Friday afternoon? Enjoy!

Really wonderful documentary of one of the iconic bird " The Golden Eagle", the king of the sky and we need to protect them against their loss habitat, useless hunting and other factors that put them in danger. It is something amazing to see a golden eagle above taking fly. One of the most interesting image to see it spead it's wings to gentle move with the winds. A lovely bird.

Indeed, thanks for a wonderful documentary with stunning cinematography and a lovely insight into the lives of these epic birds. I've only seen a golden eagle once circling above me in the Scottish mountains on the isle of Arran, it was a majestic, yet eery moment, they are truly awesome birds. Now I have buzzards nesting and circling near me, I am reminded of their cousins the eagles, remembering my encounter with a golden eagle in years past, contemplating the meaning of these birds and what we have to say to each other, with mutual appreciation and respect at least so far.

The low caw-ing sound around 1:19 is what I’ve been looking for in order to identify the birds I’ve spotted and heard multiple times in north central Pennsylvania!!! These dam ugly hawks kill all other songbirds in the area except the vultures and crows because they are too big. Songbirds are needed to kill the lawn ticks and insects. And avoid using pesticides on your lawn. The area gets more crows and vultures, more insects diseases and no songbirds. Idiocy maximum. Idiots like to defend these predators. I used to hunt them in the 1970's when it was totally legal and good to shoot these pest..

Narrating any Video of any complexity demands the Narrator has to be very knowledgeable to be able to interpret all there actions and habits of the Birds and Animals and put it all together in an entertaining and accurate way.

The producers of this doc stated in the lead Reply it was northern Scandinavia. But it seems too lush for that, and the location is stated in the middle of the video as Central Europe and specifically the Carpathians at the end, so you're right!

I first saw a Golden Eagle on a hike from the pier where my boomer was parked in the middle of Holy Lock into the hills north of Sandbank, Scotland. It was 1974, and the raptor came off its perch on a small cliff by a shepherd's shack. It was majestic! I saw it several times on subsequent hikes. The place was a wonderland of TV commercial nature settings and spectacular views.

I don't think I saw a bird of prey until I was in my twenties. The DDT thing really put a dent in the population for a few decades. So glad they are back, even though they steal koi from the ponds.

The USA always announces extinction or endangered based on US landmass, meanwhile in Canada is the largest breeding rookery of Peregrine falcon in the world, and has been since forever: the Queen Charlottes rookery. Also a lot of Canadian birds migrate to Mexico, by-passing thte American bird count and all those shotgun shells, on sale by the skindload at WalMart.

I learned a new term, eyrie: An eyrie is the nest of a bird of prey such as an eagle or hawk. Eyries are perched high, in tall trees or on cliffs.
