This was such a fun video to film for you. There are so many lessons online these days, I tried to do something different and I think this worked out great. Although I'm not the best "workout" coach as I eat a have diet of potato chips and beer, this video will help you get in shape on the drums. So grab a pair of headphones and play-along with me. You can level up and eventually play along with the advanced warm-up routine.

At the end of the lesson my face went blue only by watching. That was intense! What a great way to learn breathing normally (not holding it) while going trough the more tricky parts and at the same time managing to stay loose. This is gold and every drummer from the very beginner to the more seasoned ones should incorporate it as a part of their training.

I've been playing for 46 years, and have been warming up incorrectly for...oh, 46 of them. When I was younger, I did no stretching because, well pieces of me hadn't stated to cramp, turn black, and start falling off yet. I started out at 130 bpm, and went to 230 because hey, That'll make you fast right? Nope. It will wear your muscles out though, so there's that! You want to get fast, with control, do these exercises Jared is doing here. They're quick, won't burn you out before you start playing, and help with control and technique. That's what makes you fast, not ripping along, tightening up, and gaining control. I came across this by chance, customized it to my warm-ups, and it has helped me. These are great videos, so if you've been playing 1 year, or 100, at least give it a try. It will help Allot. Great vids Jerod. Thanks for teaching an old dog new tricks! Do all 3. You will warm up without hurting yourself.

Great video! The 16th note triplets (sextuplets... fancy) definitely helped on loosening the muscles. I think the best part about this warm-up is keeping the snare drum quiet during the paradiddles and the triplets.

Great video and example to all who hadn't worked out the benefits of this warm up, on a kit! I practice the rudiments shown in this video at t my practice pad at home, using a metronome and playing quarter note's alternating right foot, left foot, Guild Hall/Trinity college style. Playing, singles, doubles, paradiddles; inverted and reversed, then tripletise all of the above as well. I also add a five stroke roll in the same tempo as I'm practicing, I struggle using my fingers, which bothers me. This video adds further to that in a lot of ways, slight on first appearance but I'm pretty sure this will help me a lot more. Thanks very much.

Hi, surely you know Rod Morgenstein´s book "Drum set warm ups", I found it very useful and seeing this video reminds me some of the exercises in that book, I liked the 32´s and the 16´s triplets I will incorporate them in my practice, also, I play the paradiddle incorporating the ride and the hi hat and sometimes crashing cymbals too, there are endless combinations, thank you for all this excellent videos....

Interesting that you're now playing a Yamaha E-kit instead of your acoustic kit - - - and what is the Model of the Yamaha Kit you're playing? Truth to tell - I have the Entry level Yamaha DTX-500K with the triple zone ride cymbal and I love it ~ in fact, I play it more on gigs than I do my 6 piece Yamaha Oak Custom kit in Red Oak Lacquer - - although the Oak Customs are superb sounding and looking drums - the E-kit has a much smaller footprint and the on-stage volume is greatly reduced while the volume is so easily controlled by the sound engineer. Love the 5 minute warm-up - - - Im definately going to implement it into each and every practice session on both my Oak Custom and on the DTX-500K kit. Thanks for a really neat work out sequence~!

Man I find the 32 doubles easier at a faster tempo because I find it easier to bounce at a faster rhythm than a slow one. I find myself concentrating on the slower tempo more than the faster one so I dont speed up

@Dimrain13 - Well, perhaps if drumhead companies such as Evans, Remo, Aquarian, and the like would start thinking more like guitar string companies in terms of variety of weights available (ex. 5mil, 5.5mil, 6mil, 6.5mil, 7mil, 7.5mil, 8mil... 10mil+10mil), you might actually be able to pick heads that when brought to your desired pitches have more of the tension you WANT instead of the tension you have to DEAL with.
