Synopsis:
Cheng Shao Shang is a young girl who was forced to grow up alone after most of her family had to leave to fight in a bloody war. Thus she becomes stubborn and untrusting. She fends for herself in a town populated by people like her, who have been left behind by the war.
One day, a talented and powerfu general named Ling Bu Yi comes to the town - and falls in love with her at first sight. He resolves to marry her, even though it will cause him no end of problems if he decides to pursue this union. I absolutely love her. She puts the aunt in her place and also tells off her children and stepchildren. She is so cool. I love her and she's so not like any other consort I've seen in other Chinese dramas. The empress the emperor and the consort ruyang seem to have a healthy relationship with each other.I absolutely love when ling buyi bows to her. Respectfully, when she told him to ignore what everybody else says about his fiance, I mean the look on his face is total respect for her.

She owned this room...putting that disrespectful old lady in her place was epic. She didn't hold back. The old lady thought she was going to embarrass Niao Niao...and stop the engagement but she got schooled by consort Yue. The Emperor just stood back and watched her do her thing... and I loved every minute.

Love it that Lady Yue is fair and is not afraid to speak the truth that no one else dares to! She definitely put people in their place, especially if they overstep their position, regardless.

Yes, The Emperor has the best of both worlds with the Empress and Consort Yue. They didn't have to utter a word...she did it all and put that old lady in her place. It's exactly what she deserved.

Yeah if the allowed the current Crown Prince to stay.. Ling Buyi must/ would have to /and easily take over as emperor from him and NN would be empress after emperor Wen's passing. But he had friendship with 3rd prince so 3rd Prince had to become the CP to be next emperor.

@@goldHydrangeas He respected the current Emperor too much to betray him...as well as the current crown prince...like he told the Emperor...his heart is loyal. You're right he had the keys to the kingdom...he could've easily become the next Emperor. The former crown prince was too weak and incompetent...he gave Huo Buyi everything he needed to take over. The Empire was lucky that he was loyal.

Can I just put forward my appreciation for the royal trio? I mean the Emperor's facial expressions are priceless. This scene really shows us the different roles the three play, the Empress seems the demure kind-hearted one, the Emperor is in the lead but doesn't mind pulling back and letting the Consort slay those who try to use circumstances to take advantage and levy favours or power. The Empress is uncomfortable when the Consort calls out the 'children' but doesn't reprimand or call the Consort out because as much as she loves their children, she's aware of their flaws. And it's clear their bonds seem to me to be strong, and from what the Consort says to the evil aunt, built from facing the harshness in their pasts together. The emotion on the Consorts face when she talked about how the Grand Princess was sick during her pregnancy and the Emperor having to go out into the harsh winter storms to try and get food for them to eat; it shows that she does cherish and care for both of them and their family, which is such a rarity in these historical drama's where the Emperor's harem is usually cut-throat, especially between the Empress and the concubines.

These abuses of power is Usually for those who have been ruling for too long and forgot where they came from. This trio was only been in power for 10 years so not long.. but they seem to failed in raising their children (with exception 3rd Prince) who were born in peaceful times and forgot, didn't know or cared about the parents' past sufferings and sacrifices.

I see them as the shield(empress), the whip(the concubine) and the sword(the emperor), in terms of their personalities and how they deal with both the kids and the officials/employees of the palace.

Love consort yue. This actress deserves to play a bigger role in historical cdramas. I’ve seen her in ruyis first love drama and she only had a small role as a timid concubine. This role is very refreshing to see from her.

Honestly it’s a good thing she’s not the Empress because if she was she wouldn’t be able to put people in their place like how she is here. The Officials would complain to the Emperor of the way she acts and ask him to remove her title. She fits being the Consort. The Empress here is fit to be the Empress, she does what she has to do and doesn’t do what she’s not supposed to like Court stuff that the Emperor and Officials do. She’s kind & a good role model for the people. She’ll make them feel safe. The relationship between the 3 of them is great. Even if the two ladies’ families are enemies they don’t join in on all the bad things & genuinely care about the people.

I agree, I also think that maybe she didn’t fight to be the first wife for the simple reason that being a consort has less restrictions and responsibilities than being empress. There is a reason someone as smart and cunning as consort yue hasn’t fought for the phoenix seat. It is also clear that the emperor loves both his wives, one is romantic love(consort yue) and the other is respect(empress xuan) however both women keep their distance because that is what’s expected, the first wife doesn’t associate with concubines. Consort yue is the best, in the heart of the emperor she is his one and only wife and I would love to see how their relationship developed.

You know the emperor,empress and concubine Yue are my most favourite characters of the royal family. All of them are genuinely kind and loving to their subjects. Like other dramas they don't indulged in schemes and conspiracies and genuinely care about other people. But it is such a shame that all of their offspring turned out be such spoilt jerks and doesn't even have basic iota of kindness and intelligence as their parents.

The third Prince actually seems to be a great person. He’s of perfect mix of the emperor and consort Yue. He acts serious, but is actually helping Ling Buyi because of their closeness while growing up in the palace. The third prince is also harsher with court meetings and judges fairly with strict punishment. Unlike the crown Prince who only works in favor of close officials who use him of his power.

They are based on historical figures the third Prince became a good king. Also the empress was demoted but she and the crown prince were Tera with respect by emperor afterwards.

With the way consorts are written in most costume dramas, I wasn't sure about Consort Yue at first. But after 40 episodes, it's pretty clear that she is tough, but fair.

I respect consort Yue sooo much... she has a way to cover every base and so beautifully.. to make a point that consort Ruyang didn't raised her grand daughter right.. she started with her own kids..... amazing.. Emperor is so cute here.. trying to control his laugh, focusing on food, while letting his leading lady bring the house down... I can see the Zisheng and Naio Naio will be much more lethal combination in future, when they will be elders of their own family... Zisheng will let Naio Naio handle, and will step back just to watch..

Возможно консорт Юэ не общалась с Шаошан лично, но император очень любит поговорить о Цзэшен и его невесте, так что представление о ней она имеет. Мне понравилось, как гораздо позже консорт Юэ и император дали возможность разобраться Шаошан со "свекровью". Шаошан сделала для своего жениха тоже, что сейчас консорт Юэ для императора. Эти глупые и высокомерные женщины зачем-то решили напасть на умных и сильных. Говорил же принц Руян, своей жене и внучке оставить в покое Лин Буйи, не послушали.

Auntie Badass aka Concubine Yue woke up and chose violence! She was reading everyone to filth, she came with an earnest determination to eliminate and execute all the bullshit and pretense, and did it exceptionally!!! Yes, my favourite part is when she asked if the babies were sure they wanted to stay for the rated R version of the verbal purge, and the good little royal boys and girls (with sense) promptly excused themselves(tucked tail and ran more like) swiftly from the room cuz they knew shit was bout to go down. I respect this woman, who holds side chick position, but carries wife priveleges, and doesn't step over bounds, but deals with everybody like she's the mom, supports the rightful wife and shuts down the messiness with all the regality and class afforded to her noble status as "fave wifeu".

I loved her character! A breath of fresh air coz usually you see consorts and concubines being scheming with ill intentions and wanting their kid to be the next king and all the infighting amongst multiple wives of the emperor. But consort Yue was not interested in all that. She had a clear conscience and didn't let anybody manipulate her. Loved how outspoken she was and loved that the emperor backed her up in it too, as well as her dynamic with the empress. There were no bad feelings between them.

Her relationship with the empress is one of the highlights of the show for me, it was so gorgeous and moving. They love and admire each other and always regretted not allowing themselves to be closer to each other. They truly see each other as sisters... This is unseen in imperial harem dramas, it touched me deeply.

In all the shows I've seen her character as a consort so far is the best. She's fair and honest and even doesn't spoil her own kids. I hope her character stays this way and then writers don't turn her into an evil and greedy person. Honestly the relationship between her, the empress, and emperor is a good way to keep the show good. Hope it doesn't change

So this is not your typical king, queen and concubine relationship. The consort is so upright it’s almost unbelievable. She stays quiet but when she has to save the day and put people in their places, she shows up and spares no one, not even her own children. The queen respects her and vice versa. They treat each other like real sisters which is not your typical scene in a royal family. The third prince is really quiet but seems filial and upright. He may end up being the one to succeed the throne. The emperor is wise, caring and kind. I have never seen a Royal love triangle that is so harmonious as this one. Too bad only a few of the kids acquired their benevolence.

I've binged watched this series over and over since it came out. It still gets me that everyone who has said harsh words and bullied Shao Shang, always say the same thing: she not good enough or educated enough to be with Ling Bu Yi. But they are the unruliest and the biggest bullies and here comes Princess of Ruyang. She came uninvited to General Huo's death anniversary just to bully and publicly humiliate Shao Shang. She knew she could never be able to do that to Ling Buyi. Enter Imperial Consort Yue Fei. I love her!

4:35-- really subtle but funny scene NN is like "ima gonna lean out of the way so her words isn't hitting me like arrows mean for the bad mouthed princess behind me" 😂 I think NN would've ducked or moved out of the way more if it was possible and not be noticeable. I would've shifted my butt much more for sure.

This is one drama where the queen concubine and king dont have more ' drama ' going on ...thank god. ... Yue character is amzing ...as the concubine she doesn't have to be "proper" like the Queen and take anyones shit ..she honest and staightforward...she stays out of everyones business till she need to step in and step up Its beautiful that she didnt become spitful because she has to share her husband and play second fiddle in public ...she respects The queen and doesnt begrudge her for being beside her love

The disrespect from this old lady is at an all time high. She thought that she was going to come in and embarrass Niao Niao into calling off the wedding but got schooled by consort Yue instead....this old lady is blaming the wrong people for her granddaughter's decision. If the delusional princess would've listened to his words...when he told her that he would never marry her...instead of obsessing over him...she wouldn't be a nun now. This evil grandmother didn't do anything but push her precious granddaughter over the edge by convincing her that they would make him marry her crazy a**. It's her own fault for losing her granddaughter. Consort Yue wasn't messing around with her. I genuinely want to know how the Old Consort fixed her mouth to say Zisheng abandoned Yuchang. He never wanted to marry her, he told any and every one who would listen he didn't want her... You can't abandon what you never accepted or wanted.

I love this story!!!! I love this drama!!!! This episode at 20:25 is awesome as Concubine Yue (invited but elected not to attend, because she does not like these gatherings), enters to address an annoying uninvited troublemaking relative!!! Shows her high regard for Yisheng and Miss Cheng!!!!!❤😂 Brilliantly portrayed by the Actress!!!!

I have a lot of respect for Lady Yue because she has sacrificed so much by making way for the Empress. The Empress doesn't deserve the title, she potrays the type of women, i despises most.

I think she prefers to stay as consort as she can step out of line and do whatever she wants to do as a consort, considering Empress has certain rules and regulations. Plus she has time to indulge in her hobbies or skip banquets or the likes when she feels like it. She works on her whims and Empresses are not allowed to solely function on whims. Plus she has great respect for the empress and is very satisfied with her life, with her doting husband and caring for the people who helped them when they needed it the most.

She didn't become the empress because all the empresses family except 1 sister died for the emperor's cause. So as not to leave her to the wolves and to honour her families sacrifice he made her empress but he gave them both the same level of wealth and prestige. And he obviously loves the consort more. All 3 of them have an understanding and so far seem to live respectfully of each other.
