Huo Buyi had known and loved Shaoshang for about six, maybe eight months. He has lived with his plans for revenge for over ten years. It baffles me how there is this expectation that he will just move on so easily, because he is in love. He has been living as an alter ego for so many years, to protect himself, probably having to remind himself of who he really is. If the trauma of the massacre of Gu city drove his aunt mad, then imagine what it did to a 7 year old child. So it is quite unrealistic to expect him to just say “Oh, by the way, I’m actually Huo Wushang, not Ling Buyi”. And yes he loved Shaoshang as deeply as she loved him. He hurt her terribly, basically jilted her at the altar, but he did not necessarily plan to hurt her. He already had land where he intended for them to build their house and live together, even proudly wore the chicken feathers to war. His actions were down to desperation and being too scared to fully commit, but never with any malice towards Shaoshang. I do believe that the separation was vital for both of them. Shaoshang needed to get her pride back, but also to mature and Zisheng needed to learn that she, above all else is the most important person to him. Together, they make each other whole.

@@tessajohn-benjamin1073 this was not about revenge but the fact he openly said he did not regret abandoning her for his cause. Empress especially hidden Shaoshang behind fully expecting he will express at least remorse and the couple will reconcile. Instead, Niao Niao heard it is not big deal to leave her behind. I agree with you they needed time to mature to being together

@@elzbietabetlej4085Now, this I agree with. The empress was feeling him out and he failed the test woefully. While I’m really glad they got back together, the separation needed to happen because they likely would have hurt each other in the future.

I think Niao Niao was right also pointing out to him that Zisheng demanded a complete devotion however he always held back from her and that struck her the most , the unbalance in the relationship they had . She broke up bc she also realized no matter what would she do, she would be treated as a less lady just because of the gender even though she pointed out to 3rd prince perfectly she is capable of providing for her family and herself with her inventionts and talent

I think the Prince said it to let him lose composure and let everyone knows that he will never let SS go. The Prince knows him the best as his friend and for him to say that right after HBY was trying to be understanding and composed to hear about SS betrothal, he was probably mocking him😂

He did not trust her all the way she did. He asked for her heart but he did not give himself back the entire way. Therefore he did not confide in her and he did what she was afraid the most - he abandoned her. His revenge and plot with 3rd prince was more important. What is left to say? He has proposed to the emperor , she could not not accept at a time . Then when she finally developed deep feelings for him too, he stabbed her in the back. I guess even he saw her as his possession, fiancee but not the person she is. Watch the most iconic argument between niao niao and 3rd prince. She left him speechless.

@@twinflames8600 I loved how Niao Niao pointed out in 3rd prince face that although she is a woman, she is fully capable of taking care of herself and her family. She is not worse but an equal in the relationship . Zisheng has forgotten about it. Was she a trouble magnet ? Yes. However it was Zisheng choice to get involved with her as well as hers to involve in his affairs. One point I did not like in a drama- everone tested Shaoshang how deep was her love. But noone tested Zisheng.

he expected it tbh, that's the reason he protect Yuan Shanjian's father and his troops at the reisk of his own life. he was supposed to be stationed at the border, but he left just for this and then to save Cheng Song, Shaoshang's older brother. the two scenes of him being sick and hurt that we see in the montage are from that point. later on in the episode, when Huo Buyi and Yuan Shanjian meet, he tells him that Yuan Shanjian is the most important person in the capital for him because he is capable to of making Shaoshang happy, or at least give her a good life. it still hurts him tho, look at him, he looks like a kicked puppy 😭😭😭😭

He was ordered to come back because the Empress fell gravely ill and the emperial doctors predict that she has not much time left, so basicly he was there to say goodbye to the Empress and see her for the last time 😢😢😢...

Actually she want to get engage with that scholar because the Queen is dying and her last wish was to see ShaoShang getting married/settled down. However, the Queen passed away before they could get engaged.

she did, for a few weeks in between this and the Empress passing away Shaoshang was engaged to Yuan Shanjian. even tho it was the Empress's last wish for her to get married, Shaoshang later broke the engagement because she really could not bring herself to marry Yuan Shanjian. he accepted it with grace, kudos to him

I think the empress had a conversation with HBY and told him that SS and YS were actually not engaged or betrothed and the General answered it with “i know” This was before the empress passed away Correct me if im wrong
