As a philosopher, my favourite bit by far is when you say that improvising has an “inevitable logic”.

David, each single video of your channel is just a essential, no nonscence lesson on blues guitar. You don't just give out fishes. You teach people how to fish, and you do it spot on.

Fantastic video David thanks. It's similar in a way to your super helpful video, 3 Steps to Improve the Pentatonic Scale, that recruited me into the Finger Style Five membership which I'm loving and learning at a hell of a rate. It was a bit like drinking from a fire hose at first but it didn't take long to catch on. Still a way to go but I'm on it.

Great lesson. It's accessible, sounds great. I wasn't clear if the bass switched from A to E in the first example. I assumed it did but I couldn't tell how you were playing it. I also need to think more about how the chords you suggested fit into my understanding of what is E7. All good tyvm

I googled the specs on this 00-18 but didn't find them. May I ask if you'd share the physical dimensions of your guitar? The bout widths, the length and such. It looks so small in your hands, but it really does pack a beautiful punch, I'd say. Great blues guitar. Great (!!) player.

I have just started trying to play finger style and I have a possible silly question. When playing a lick should it be on the beat of the bass string or after or does it not matter? I hope that makes sense. Oh and thanks for another great lesson David you are as good a teacher as you are a player!
@mdyerlrb
@mdyerlrb Жыл бұрын
The "lick" or notes played with your fingers can be before, during or after the beat your thumb is playing. That's where it gets tricky at first. Eventually after much practice it becomes MUCH easier. You just have to go very slowly to train your fingers. You can do it and David's Fingerstyle Five membership can help tremendously. I've been a member for over 2 years and I HIGHLY recommend David's teachings.

It looks like one of those (the A slide) is for the IV chord bars - are any of those designed to place into the V chord bars? Maybe the 6 into the 9 slide?
@karlfarren
@karlfarren Жыл бұрын
You could adapt these moves to transition into the IV and/or V chords, but this lesson is based around a one-chord vamp on E. Hope that helps.

Do finger style players care about what type of strings they use? Asking for a friend.
@DogwithtwoBones
@DogwithtwoBones Жыл бұрын
Definitely. I think strings are even more important on acoustic as you usuall dont use amps and pedals therefore strings are a huge factor in achieving your tone.
@bruceringrose7539
@bruceringrose7539 Жыл бұрын
Short answer: yes! Based on their construction, different strings produce different tones. Light gauge strings produce a softer, gentler tone for certain songs, and are easier to play. Heavier gauge strings produce a louder, stronger tone for powerful songs. Coated strings last longer if your hands are oily and tend to sweat.

I hear slight variations on different brands of PB( Phos Bronze ) strings, but there is a dramatic difference using Martin Monels ( Retros) I love them on small body Mahogany guitars like David is playing, especially for this kind of music. Give them a try and see what you think. I use 12’s, PB or Retros
