This is, hands down, the best version of the song I've ever heard. It's been stripped of Robert Smith's histrionics and laid bare as the beautiful song that it is.

The guitar playing is clean and even. The singing, the way to think of it is character like Leonard Cohen. What may be lost in melodic precision is gained in character. And it puts this new take into the world. Even if you're not sold on it yourself, it's the kind of thing that shows other people a new angle on it. Who knows who it'll inspire! Looks like nearly 300,000 people so far!

When I was in my early twenties, I met a girl in work who I went out with for five years. In the early days, one Friday we went after work, as we always did, with our workmates to the local pub and had a great night. When we were leaving for our separate homes, she gave me a huge kiss and told me she had booked us into the hotel across the road from the pub. I will never forget that night and this song always reminds me of it. It was our first night together and such a thrill. I was so crazy about her. We woke up on the Saturday morning and I never felt so happy to see her beside me. One of those great moments in life when everything is so perfect.
