I'm a huge fan of covers. Searching for great ones is one of my fave pastimes. And what this man did, as you note, is my definition of a great one. Any passable technician can imitate the original. But to create something altogether new, to make the song one's own, is the mark of an artist!

You wrote: i think it's terrible. You know what I hear? A man telling me about his emotions. He doesn't fight with tones, he doesn't want to impress me with his abilities. He just speaks to me. And that is wonderful, sincere and natural. So different from what I hear around me. It's the essence of music. Thank you!

in 1980, as an 18 year old boy who was sick of what was being played on the radio, over and over, I walked into a record store, headed for the "import section" and decided I was going to pick out a new record or two, and just hoped it was something different, maybe a sound that was unlike anything else. I found a peculiar looking album cover that intrigued me. It had a vacuum cleaner on it, a lamp, and a small fridge on it, and all it said was "The Cure". I had never heard of The Cure, but I took that record home, and it changed my life forever. I love all their music and I love this song as well, and I love your rendition of it. I only wish the video was in HD or 4K because I like it that much.

The guitar playing is clean and even. The singing, the way to think of it is character like Leonard Cohen. What may be lost in melodic precision is gained in character. And it puts this new take into the world. Even if you're not sold on it yourself, it's the kind of thing that shows other people a new angle on it. Who knows who it'll inspire! Looks like nearly 300,000 people so far!

When I was in my early twenties, I met a girl in work who I went out with for five years. In the early days, one Friday we went after work, as we always did, with our workmates to the local pub and had a great night. When we were leaving for our separate homes, she gave me a huge kiss and told me she had booked us into the hotel across the road from the pub. I will never forget that night and this song always reminds me of it. It was our first night together and such a thrill. I was so crazy about her. We woke up on the Saturday morning and I never felt so happy to see her beside me. One of those great moments in life when everything is so perfect.
