The Ontario Hockey League has long had a threshold for fighting. It started at 10 fights per season and quickly dropped to three. That means if a player drops the gloves more than three times in a season, he gets a suspension for each subsequent fight. There are also thresholds for too many boarding or head-checking penalties. What if we also needed a threshold for suspensions? Sounds weird, but it might be necessary.
