Great Pod again guys. A couple points on the topics. First I hope to get the opportunity to enthusiastically boo David Branch one last time at Budweiser Gardens 😊. Second on the narrative around Conrad Hache I think your assessment of the situation is accurate however the league has to not put itself in those situations where that perception is possible and they haven’t done a good job of that. Do I believe there was any directive or even a desire for officials to treat any player or team differently absolutely not but I do believe that human nature could cause some different treatment of your bosses kid maybe even unintentionally. Third and final point Owen Sound better be careful what they wish for looking toward a more “blue collar” team they might cause some rangers fans to not want to watch them anymore 😂.

Wow, I enjoyed this podcast immensely. So great to hear about your hockey career Eric - past, present, and future! Love your vision on the importance of increasing range of motion and adding variety in sporting activities in the development of skills in young athletes. Merci Bien Eric!

interesting comment on the knights style of play. I would have to agree I don't find it enjoyable to watch either. Get rid of all of the post-whistle, between the bench shenanigans out of the game and it becomes a much more entertaining watch (ie games 5 and 6 were incredible). Would also like to note that I thought both were very well officiated to remove the bs that we saw in games 1-4

Since I live in London I've talked to Dale Hunter many times, he's around quite frequently and not hard to find in the summer in London. He's a pretty shy guy when it comes to attention that's why I don't think he does many interviews. Don't let the mean look on his face deter you from talking to him, he really is the nicest guy if want to talk hockey and his time spent in the NHL. As a Knights fan I've been to many games at Budweiser Gardens, I would say yes they do play fan noise through the speakers at games, you can hear it ever so slightly, but the real crowd does make the majority of the noise. I know the Leaf's also do this at Scotia bank arena, and they did the same thing at NHL games when no fans were allowed during Covid. I believe the Knights do try to give Knights fans an NHL type experience at the Gardens.

I knew what this was about just from the title. Not only is it his seventh suspension this season, but he took the penalty just seconds after stepping on the ice in a game he hardly played in. Then tonight, the player that was just coming off a long suspension takes another match penalty and will likely be suspended again. Maybe it’s a team problem? Just saying. Maybe it’s not the players who should be disciplined.

I'm from London and I really miss the smaller arena The London Gardens. Don't get me wrong I love The Budweiser Gardens and all it has to offer and all the amazing concerts we've had over the last 20 years there, but nothing beats a smaller arena for the intimate setting and community feel. Sudbury Arena looks great.

Eleven times in 25 years! How do they do it while spending so much time in the Penalty Box? How do they lead the league in goals, goals against, powerplay, penalty kill, best record? How do they overcome all of the suspensions? Maybe they are the best run organization in the OHL for the past 25 years?

It's indisputable that London has set the bar for OHL success for a quarter-century now, and we've been consistent on that point all season. They've absolutely found the recipe that works.

Sounded like your discussion suggested if a “top” pick is drafted by an OHL team they should honor the commitment? If they sign I agree.. but all draft picks to OHL should be allowed to explore all options including tenders.. playing in the O is still a future option
@TheOHLPodcast
@TheOHLPodcast 23 күн бұрын
Oh, yes. Absolutely. Sorry to make it sound otherwise. By all means, explore the options to find the best fit. But once you sign, let's see a commitment to that team/program/league.

Hey Mike. I've never heard you speak badly about any NCAA defects, that they need to honour their commitment. Just saying. Also be interesting if your stance on officiating carries over to your broadcast next season. You do know that your lead in to your post game call in show contained the phrase "who blew what call?".
@TheOHLPodcast
@TheOHLPodcast 24 күн бұрын
Hey Gord, good point on the NCAA! I guess that comes from looking at things through an OHL lens. I'd apply the same thoughts re: honouring one's commitment across the board. When the new CHL-NCAA agreement is hammered out, I want to see guardrails in place to protect teams. Of course, I'd also never want to see a player forced to stay in a bad place. But I think we should expect, at minimum, a genuine effort to live up to one's commitment. As for the postgame show, thanks for listening(?)! Much like a newspaper reporter doesn't write their headlines, I don't write the "big voice" stuff for the radio station. For the record, I'll also talk about who blew a call if someone does! But I think the postgame show this season very much reflected my stance on officiating.

Anybody who watched Sudbury's horrid defensive play and shaky goaltending from mid-January on would know this would catch up to them. They never cleaned it up. Can score in bunches but if you live by the sword, you die by it. Check out the scores. And they're always among the most penalized teams in the league. Facing a disciplined North Bay team that plays with structure was a bad, bad matchup.

If the league is commenting on those situations where are the comments on no supplemental discipline on McConnell-Barker for the hit that knocked Andrew Oke out of the series? No penalty or supplemental discipline for a dangerous shove/cross check sending Rodwin Dionicio into the end boards? It goes both ways.

Friendly jabbing between opposing fans is fine. It’s the nastiness (swearing, obscene gestures, throwing things) that should not be tolerated. In 20+ seasons I have never had a bad encounter with an opposing team’s fans.
