It's been a few months since that tragic fire, so you don't hear a ton about it these days, but as someone who has been touched by a lot of their works, especially the Koe no Katachi movie, I was shocked when I heard the news... As more and more details were released, it didn't feel real, but I eventually had to come to terms with the fact that many of the staff members that brought this masterpiece to life are no longer with us... #PrayForKyoAni

I was very lucky because I recently watch Koe no Katachi and binge watch every one of your characters analysis videos a mouth ago, so and I didn't have to wait one year to you make a video about another one. And BY THE LOVE OF GOD continue to do characters analysis videos, I'm a big fan of then.

This video explains why i liked and felt sorry for Nagatsuka. A lot of anyisocial people can relate to his character. He(like most of the characters)is a realistic representation of many young people who watch anime. He is probably the best character in the anime Edit: Yuzuru is also a candidate for best character in the anime

Nagatsuka is like how elementary and middle school kids befriend each other. They immediately and very easily, without hesitation, make friends with each other over quick first impressions. I've met people who have idolized me before, and when they learn more about me, they were very quick to leave me and just flat out hate me. I also used to be a little like Nagatsuka, where I'd instantly call anyone who was the slightest bit kind to me, I'd put all my trust in them and even overshare things I shouldn't. However, after a lot of rejection, I've slowly become more like Ishida, isolated and scared to look at others. Nagatsuka represents childhood and innocence, Ishida represents adolescence and mistrust.

I love the movie adaption of A Silent Voice, however it’s a sad reality that the film had to cut out really awesome pieces of character development from the side cast in order to tell Nishimimiya and Ishada’s stories with any consistency. Consistency within an anime movie format of two-3 and a half hours versus over fifty volumes of a manga series. I understand that’s an unfortunate reality for any adaption, however nothing upsets me more in media. Than when fiction women’s arch’s/development are erased entirely or sidelined in favor of male characters screen-time. So Ueno, Kiawi, and Sahara’s arch’s and character moments were taken out to make them nothing more than one-note side characters that were meant to pop up in a few scenes than never speak again. Again that’s a reality of any adaptation however I stress how they specifically seem to make out Ueno and Kiwai as pure evil. Especially when they added in that scene during elementary school were Kiwai pretends to sing to look better in front of everyone else by helping Nishimiya. When they never bring up Ueno’s self-hatred and reasons for disliking Nishimiya, I dunno. I feel like they could’ve tried to do better with those.
@TheAnimeDude
@TheAnimeDude 4 жыл бұрын
Details being altered or overlooked is always a sad reality of any adaptation, tho I wouldn’t necessarily say that female characters in particular were shafted. Mashiba, Shimada, & Nagatsuka relied heavily on the movie-making part of the manga for their relevancy. In the end, the movie just didn’t have enough screen time to accommodate more than Ishida & the two Nishimiya sisters. I do think it kinda sucks that they added that bit with Kawai at the beginning, but as far as Ueno goes, I feel like the part they gave her towards the end of the movie helps to give her a bit more redemption from an audience perspective, even if we don’t understand her as well overall. Anyways, glad you liked the videos & can appreciate the amazing cast of this great series as well!!! 😁😊

Having grown up in Japan, I am no stranger to Anime and Manga, but lived abroad for the past three decades with little to no cultural “update”, it only recently found Koe-no-Katachi [anime] via Netflix. Watching your videos has made me wanting to get hold of the original Manga or novelised version, and would probably be a privilege for me to able to do so in Japanese. Admittedly, I am no youth, but I thank you all the same for your videos to raise curiosity level.

If there's a KnK character I'd love for you to analyze is Yaeko Nishimiya, Shouko and Yuzuru's mother. The movie never truly showed what made her into this cold person or how it affected the way she believes that essentially throwing her daughters off the nest will toughen them up and learn to fly on their own at such a young age, when in fact it doesn't help them all that much.

Hey, great video! I don't want to assume, but I can't help but hope that leaving that comment on one of your other character analysis videos provided some small inspiration to jump back into Koe no Katachi. I've got to say, I really love all of your Koe no Katachi content! That movie (and manga, after I read it) were so incredibly touching for me. This analysis was really eye opening. I had never thought that deeply about Nagatsuka, but you delved into his character and explored it to its full extent. He really was a wonderful way to communicate the meaning of friendship (which is just one of the many central themes to this story). I hope you make more on Koe no Katachi, they're always really insightful and helpful. Seeing the main characters would be great! But if not, I've been curious about getting into other anime (and by extension your content on the anime). Which leads me to a question for you (or anyone reading this): as an person who has not seen much anime but loved Koe no Katachi, where would you recommend I go from here? In any case, keep up the good work! Fantastic video

Hey Elijah, thanks for watching, and I’m glad you liked it! I have a series on here called “Why You Should Watch”, where I’m hoping to eventually have all of my favorite anime recommended, along with a reason to watch them. The reason I’m always Hesitant to recommend shows to people is because it depends on what type of genre they enjoy the most or want to try out. I definitely recommend any series in that playlist, but if you’re new to anime and like Koe no Katachi, then maybe some more animated movies like “Your Name” would be more up your alley to start with? Hope that helps!

Wow, it's been so long since I last saw your character analysis videos A Silent Voice/Koe no Katachi, I guess you aren't done with it yet, lol. Anyway I listen to your whole video, and well not only you got your analysis of Nagatsuka's characters to a tee, but you also gotten better realizing core themes of redemption and the meaning of friendship : even if you have friend(s) who were mean or toxic to you at some point, or you being mean to your friends but realize overtime the friends accept who you are & you accept them vice versa, yes they/u did some bad but there are some good amomgst all of you and become better with each other in need. That's what makes this series so endearing and why I love all or just love the core supporting cast of characters besides the mains (Shouko & Shouya) as they are uniquely flawed in their own way but they are not necessarily evil people. Also that quote by Ishida at 28:59 is actually one of my favorite quotes from this series. Got to give Yoshitoki Ooima credit where it is due, it is no easy feat to craft a story based on bullying, Disability, redemption, self-worth, and friendship. To pull it off so well, her name is like a household name almost. So yeah great video.

This was good. But I wouldn't really say friendship is accepting someone for who they are. Friendship is actually about building each other up, pointing out the flaws and becoming a better person. A "friend" who acknowledges your flaws, and doesn't do anything about them, much less point them out, is not really a friend. Those are the people who tend to not stick around much, specially when things go sideways (due to said flaws). True enough, the MC is the only who has the balls to do this (with a few exceptions). It is only by naming the problem and tackling it head on, that one can move forward. In fact, most of the issues that happened in the story can be traced back to someone being an asshole, and his/her "friends" not doing anything about it. Even trying to passively or "slowly but surely" change someone's mind does not work, Shoko's mother and sister tried, didn't work. Shoya's teacher tried, did not work. My only issue with the story is that it treats being upset at someone's flaws as a bad thing. Shoya constantly apologies for stating the obvious, and even goes as far as treating acts of violence meekly. Don't get me wrong, I can understand why he's like that given his past and how he doesn't want to hurt anyone else. But for the rest of the characters, if they truly regard each other as friends, they wouldn't act the way they did. In the end, outside of the nishimiya family, the only true friend Shoya had (has?) was Nagatsuka.

Question, are you still planning on making a Shouko or shouya analysis eventually or have plans changed with that? I'm aware they are likely the longest ones to actually do this for, i just need to know because you did such a wonderful job with these. I saw the film of the series at a time where I desperately needed to be pushed to get help and i saw it at the right time, if I hadn't a few weeks later... i wouldn't of been here anymore, this was a year and a half ago, and I am in a much better place now, its my favorite film and manga because of this. its wonderful how art can have such a important effect on people.

Honestly... I’m not sure. I’d like to make them someday, and I’d be lying if I said I hadn’t worked on other character analysis scripts since I finished this one - but videos like this are a huge time commitment (not to mention my standards for videos like this are a bit too high now in comparison to other videos), and it’s been so long that I now have other types of content I enjoy making & have committed to keeping up with. As someone that now streams 100 hours or so each month on Twitch & works full time - it’s hard to say whether or not I’ll ever find the time to make them, tho there’s a part of me Thatd still definitely like to some day. 😅

Hiii...I know it's a bit late but can you make character analysis of Shoya and Shoko too...As well as their mothers😊😊
@TheAnimeDude

Hopefully I can one day... It’s a bit hard to find the time since there’s so much other stuff I want to do, but it’s definitely been on the list of things I want to make for a few years now. 😅

Are you still gonna do the analysis for Shoko, or Ishida if so, I’ll get the notification so I know that it’s here

I plan on hopefully doing it someday - but with my schedule being how it’s been there’s no telling when. 😅
