Chick turning into old Hen - From Day 1 to 8 Years of Age. Chicken Development through the Years.
This video is about my oldest chicken, hatched on July 8th, 2013. I was 11 years old at this time - since then she has been a part of my life :)
You can see the aging process/transformation from the baby chick to the 8 year old chicken, and also her amazing recovery (at already high age) after a risky operation in which a stuck egg and part of the fallopian tube had to be removed.
Timelapse Chicken growing up 2021 new version.
The next video will appear on her 10th birthday ^^

What a wonderful video! You’re lucky, one of my 3 y/o hens had a surgery but didn’t make it afterwards. Today I had to take her sister to the vet and unfortunately had to euthanize her. They swallowed a bunch of nails when we replaced the home roof and they were out free ranging. Please keep us posted on this beautiful 8 year old! That’s my goal! Too keep them happy as long as I can 😃

Enjoyed watching your video of Pieps. Such and amazing Journey of life you both had together. I watched your 10-year Tribute to this VERY amazing lady. You could not have done a better job in honoring Pieps. I have not had the privileges' yet to have a hen being 9-years of age. I am hoping I will have one or two that will get to these fine years of Hen life. We have 6 of our 8 original ladies left. We have started of journey with our girls November 17, 2018 therefore some of these changes they go through are new to us. It was amazing Pieps surgery on the broken egg went well. I am so happy it was successful. I saw you said you did the hormone implant for her to stop further egg production. About 1.5 months ago we had two of our hens lay shell less eggs. Going to the vet the soft shell was still inside of them. The shells on both girls were far enough through the passage as to where they sedated them and syringed the shell out. We too did the implants on them to stop further egg production. I saw Pieps had comb changes etc. due to this. Ours have some weight loss, loss of appetite and a little more laid back which is probably related. Curious on how long it took Pieps to adjust to the implant? This part is new for us so was trying to see how it played out with your situation if you don't mind me asking? Enjoy your videos from Denver, Colorado USA 🙂
@Stachli
@Stachli Жыл бұрын
Thank you for your kind comment again! It means so much 😊 Yeah, her comb changed extremely with the hormone chips. Until her death she got 4 of them in total. The first and second one had the most effects on her tho, as she seemed tired and down for weeks after the implants. Lost weight too. But after 1 to 2 months she always started being "herself" again. Still not exactly the same as before, but at least she was happy and more active again. With your chickens, is the plan that they get more implants in the future to prevent egg production for a longer time or just once just for them to recover?
@clydesmithiii2119
@clydesmithiii2119 Жыл бұрын
@@Stachli Thanks for the reply :-) Our plan is to continue with the implants. When both Missy & Gracie had the shell less eggs the first time, we thought it was something that would not reoccur. Two weeks after the first shell less egg, it happened to Missy again. Again we were fortunate the vet could just do a syringing to remove the softshell inside her without major surgery. The vet then told us about the Suprelorin Implant. We never knew about that and had our vet put that in her. It is good to hear what you experienced on the implant as it seems similar with Missy too, meaning it has been about 1.5 months and she seems to be pretty close to "herself" but not totally like before. Mainly just more laid back in a way. Her weight has stabled and as you said on Pieps, she appears to be as about as happy and active again. Gracie we just implanted about 3 weeks ago although she never had a second shell less egg but was constantly in the nest box. She did have what we thought were marble size lash-eggs. Our vet thought it would be a good option due to this, so we did the implant with her too. Gracie seems to be having the same affects as Missy, so I was wondering how you situation was which you replied on, thanks so much. These ladies have been a huge part of our life now and we are trying to make sure they can have a long happy life. (Hentirement) 🙂 Never knew when we first started with these ladies how much they would enrich our lives.

Do you have a vet in your area who is familiar with chickens? Please have it examined as soon as possible - if you can see the needle, I guess it's not in the stomach but still in the goiter. If so, it shouldn't be too much of a problem for the vet to resolve. Good luck for your chicken!

The world record is 16 years at the moment. I think you mean the ancestors of our chickens today - I think they were called "bankiva chickens". they only laid as many eggs as they hatched. Today's chickens are so highly bred that life expectancy has been reduced considerably by the exhaustion of frequent egg-laying.

Hey friend, why do you have to pick a hen with such an enormous beautiful comb? At the time frame of 4:12 - 4:16, your hen morphs remarkably because you use two hens' photos. From 6 years to 6 years and 27 days, in exactly about one month's time, your hen's comb changes shape and size. From one year to six years, her comb is large and flappy. Then from 6 years 1 month on to 7 years 4 months 11 days, her comb shrinks and is disappointedly tiny. Then at 8 years old, her comb is outrageously big again. I know you will delete my comment, but so you know, someone does pay attention to your hen's face and comb. You could have just used one hen, your hen with the enormous comb, and put any date on it and no one will notice.
@Stachli
@Stachli 2 жыл бұрын
Hey, thanks for your comment! Read the text at 3:22, it is explained there. She has been given a hormone chip that prevents egg production. Of course, the comb extremely adapts to hormone changes. Just like with the annual feather change or when a chicken is breeding. I know, in this case its pretty extreme - but I can assure you, it is the same hen 😂 She is still alive and turning 9 in july :D Btw, why should I even fake this? I dont get any money for it or something like that - I just do it for fun and for me, to always remember the life of my favorite chicken :)
