Excellent. Thank you for sharing. Could you pls tell me how long it will take to dry for a worked clay before baking.
@nehagopinathpillai
@nehagopinathpillai 4 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much! The drying time is based on the size and thickness of the pieces. This pendant and earring took a day and a half to dry completely, till it was no longer cool to touch. But I don't want to risk any moisture content in the piece so I just leave it for another day. So about three days. Some thick pieces I just leave it for drying for almost a week before firing.

Amazing work! Thanks for making a process video and sharing product links. I have been looking into buying a portable kiln and get spooked by the possibility of a fire. What kiln do you use? I have a tabletop one that I’m eyeing from Clayking.
@nehagopinathpillai
@nehagopinathpillai 4 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much! I don't own a kiln so I take my pieces to a pottery studio close by and get it fired in an electric kiln there. I don't think it's recommended to have a kiln at home provided you have a separate well ventilated space to operate one in. As these equipments reach high temperatures, and kept on for almost 16 hours at a stretch it's safe to not do it at home. I understand you being skeptical about it.

paintedEarthbyneha unfortunately pottery studios near my home ( I live in GA) are snooty about firing clay that was not purchased in their studios. I use a charcoal barbecue that fires the low fire blackjack clay I use. I like it except for how quickly it dries while you’re working with it. Of course, my skill level is no where even near yours 😊

You are welcome. With pastels or lighter shades I try to add two coats of paint. I try diluting my paint as it's too thick. I wouldn't recommend thick paint as the brush lines while painting will be visible. So it's best you dilute paint with a couple of drops of water. I have given a few links in the description box of the video. Please do check.

@nehagopinathpillai

I dilute the paint in most cases unless a certain a technique requires me to use undiluted paint. The paint from the tube is usually thicker than the paint from a bottle. So dilute accordingly.

I have a product called Decoart satin varnish. Its usually used to protect the paint. It helps in retaining the brightness of the work for a long time.

Hi neha did the beads are dried only or else fired before fixing to the pendant.
@nehagopinathpillai
@nehagopinathpillai 3 жыл бұрын
The beads are dried. Anyways the entire set gets fired after fitting the stick beads inside, so automatically everything gets fired well. There is nothing wrong in firing you stick beads/ghungroo beads prior. But it's just double work and waste of money. You can get it done once all together. Not sure if I explained it well, but hope you understood :)

What is that white color thing. Varnish where we will get

I product I use is called Decoart dura clear satin varnish. In India you can try brands like liquitex or brustro. While buying a varnish, you might want to follow this check list- Non-yellowing, clear, odorless, suitable for acrylics, easy to clean the brushes with water, fast drying.

Can u please guide how to bake teracotta jewelry at home as I don't have a kiln?
@nehagopinathpillai
@nehagopinathpillai 3 жыл бұрын
I have never done it at home. So I may not be the right person to guide you there. I always got it done in an electric kiln at the studio. I did the same back in the India where I would go to my sir's studio and get fired there in an electric kiln. Here in the US I do that same. I take my bone dry pieces to a ceramic studio and get it bisque fired in an electric kiln.

Thank you so much! I don't own a kiln, so I take my pieces to a pottery studio close by and get it fired in an electric kiln there. I would suggest you do the same.
