Really promising session. It seems like Mark has increased his knowledge to the point where he is aware of enough pros/cons of different options that it is becoming harder to sort them out. First step is awareness, then the hard part of determining which information is most relevant when many options exist begins. It is pretty natural to start doubting ourselves more at that stage. That doubt never goes away as we become more aware of minutiae but we get better at sorting it out and being comfortable with uncertainty. Glad to see the series continues.

I agree we've definitely got him thinking about more of the right factors now; just need to ramp up the aggression.

Ugh this is why poker is so hard to learn. You get punished for playing well and rewarded for playing terrible often enough. Also, knowing a little theory without knowing how to apply it is dangerous because you can talk yourself into blunders (i know i can). Glad you got some validation Mark I feel like you're on the verge of a massive upswing.

It's quite impossible to be a winning player when your red line is so consistently downwards. I'm looking forwards to the next episode on red-line fixing.

In that KK hand, very few villains want to expose their stack to being snapped by any queen x. Also he called the flop and he called the turn big bet, and there are no draws available. So he has to be calling with some form of made hand or double-floating air, and then checking that air with the intention of check raise bluffing, attempting to move you off of the class of hands that are value betting the river but aren't a queen, and that is fucking absurd, since if you have a pocket pair worse than queens you're likely just checking back the river. So the combination of ranging you exactly and *also* double-floating enough stuff to end up with something that he can bluff with in this manner is just vanishingly rare, the dude just holds a queen. He probably had Qjs or QTs or some such hand with a backdoor that floated the flop and then checked the river to protect his range and now he has the nuts.

Coincidence this video comes up cause I been doing the same stuff lately, just getting it in with AK on flops and losing buy ins. This is when you stop playing for a few days/weeks and come back refreshed

Knowing when a downswing is partially your fault and when it's just bad variance is also a really important skill. Of course the truth uusally lies somewhere in between.

Hey Pete been loving this series so far, Just wondering in hand one you say that Mark won't have AQ and KQ just wondering if this is an exploitable adjust Vs population as gtowizard Mixes AQ and KQ and AQs seems like a slam dunk 4bet Vs a BB polar 3betting range?

In the second hand, how bad is calling with the Qs, because a few of his bluffs have Qs: KsQs, QsJs (on flop have oesfd) then he can have Qs9s that has bsfd. Given that you knock out bluffs is it a fold?

Busted flush draws are not part of the river triple barrel range here in theory so having this card is actually a good thing.

How do we know it's a downswing or just losing a poker strategy?
@Boom64116

if it goes over 40 buyins or if ur losing after 150k hands then its a bad strat
@mackerhacker76

Great question. I agree with Bogdan that the long term will tell. But in the shorter term I think you can also: review your play / share hands with winning players for feedback / review your database / enlist the help of a coach / work with solvers.

Rather than setting sudden thresholds like 150k hands and 40-50 BIs I'd get farmiliar with confidence intervals and how likely certain sizes and durations of downswing and upswing are for certain winrates. You can work on that here: www.primedope.com/poker-variance-calculator/

Mark needs to stop playing like a gigantic call station nit, be prepared to lose lots and transition into a more redline type style. This type of redline with this type of overall passive stationy player is very very difficult to win with. Best of luck on your progress.

I've been getting crushed the last couple weeks now... Went from $580 to $500 then $560 to $500 then $530 to $500 again lol Just lost a full stack to a guy who flats JTo EP vs MP 3B w/77, he calls triple barrel with 2nd pair bad kicker. Luckily I nearly always just stop playing immediately. Mark played that AKo hand pretty well I thought, didn't have to shove the turn but villain should not have been calling.

" villain should not have been calling."??? I do poker. I get what ur saying. But its like me with another bad beat villain is a moron story. Happens ALL DAY EVERY DAY THOUSANDS OF TIMES A DAY at smaller stakes. ..... The question I am better off asking myself, is y did I put money at risk with 77 or AK??. Does not matter if they should call or not. THEY SHOULD NOT. But I, and only I, put that money at risk. Translate BBs back to dollars and it clarifies the need for risk management. Good luck all. Cheers. I do like that this is not a bunch of pio solver stuff. TY for channel

That's not even close to getting crushed. I went from 500$ back to 300$ back to 450$ back to 300$, back to 490$, back to 300$ again, lol. That is getting crushed. But well... I adjusted my game and most of that was still just a variance mostly + yeah could have lost two or three buyins less, because I was pissed at the end, but that wouldn't change much. Lost: Full house vs 3card (on the board) Straight flush Nut flush vs Straight flush AA vs AK (V rivered straight) AA vs KK (V did hit a set) KK vs AK (V did hit an A) QQ vs KK (i did not hit a shit) AK vs KK AK vs QQ Flush over flush in a 4bet pot (I had 67s I guess) Flush over flush BB vs SB Some of those losses were 200-250bb deep, so I basically lost all the winnings that could have made it a lil' better.
