Chicano was a term for a Mexican person. It was created by Mexicans , instead of saying Im a Mexican they would say amongst themselves im. a Chicano. The word is a slang version of the word Mejicano ( Chicano). It' was originally used only amongst the the Mexican themselves. Now its widely used . However it is not considered racist by Mexicans .

That’s true. It was used in Mexico first then the Mexican- Americans adopted the term to identify themselves .

@@revolutionsoldier5889 ahhhhh....no they didnt....it started in El Paso (chuco town) thus the name and in San Antonio ......the kids in California were workin in the fields until their cousins from Texas showed up with the zoot suits in their suitcase....
