Late 60's Chicano Movement Veteranos said that the three lines with the cross meant the father, Son, Holy spirit but also meant Mi or La vida Loca. i got jumped into a varrio in 1972 and the homies referred to the Cruz with the 3 Radiant Lines as i had learned by Chicano Movement Vets. I did not see three dots replace the cruz with 3 lines till the 90's.

I used to see the Indians in Arizona heavily tattooed with pachuco crosses especially the Pima indians of Phoenix, and the Yaquis from Guadalupe, they had them on their foreheads, cheeks, chins and all over their arms, not just one but as many as could fit, reminds me of the Salvadorean gangs, whereas the Chicanos usually had them between their thumb and forefingers, on their wrists, or top of the hand, their faces, and on their forelegs. I don't know where the cross came from but I'm almost 80 and adults sported them when I was a kid, as far as pachuco-ism is concerned Arizona was always in the mix> I was surprised to see how many guys I knew from Phoenix in different LA varrios when I was in DVI Tracy back in the 60s. Arizona used to get rid of their bad boys with an Out of State release to grandma usually meaning LA back in the day so they wouldn't have to pay for the incarcerations! Lalo Guerrero from Tucson "La Tusca" composed all the pachuco songs from Zuit Suit!

There is not much written about them because they were very secretive and did not let outsiders in. What is know is that the word Tirili comes from the word Tirilones and means something like someone who is poor in Calo. Calo is the language that they spoke and that the Cholos speak now. Calo or Gitano Calo originated in Gypsy Spain. The Calo that is spoken now is known as Chicano Calo or Pachuco Calo and is mix with Romani, English, Mexican Slang, New Mexico Slang, Mexica Nahuatl and other words picked up along the way. Most of the Tirilones were made up of Mexican bandits, Gypsies and other criminals and gangs. There is a book named Gangs of El Paso-Juarez Borderland that I haven't read yet. There is information out there just have to dig and dig.

yo i've been wondering about the origins of chicano graffiti letters. it's really hard to find out any information but i feel like there's gotta be something that influenced everyone to write like that and possibly a way to trace the style from somewhere i know they been doing a version of it since like 20s-40s in LA but thats about it.

I’ve heard that El Paso is just the Name in which many Mexicans and Chicanos used the word Pachuco. And many migrated to California and thus were influenced by the Jazz Culture back in the 30’s and 40’s in Los Angeles but the Estilo itself was made in California not Texas. The Name, and even some Slang words have been both used in both States for many years. Because zoot suits at the time we’re both used by Xicanos and Blacks in Los Angeles. I lived most of my life in Los Angeles and moved to Texas about 2 years ago. An I could see that Los Angeles has always been a big influence on the country and even the world. An from what I could see is that many Tejanos don’t really wear certain stuff because they either don’t like it. But from views and understanding of living in California most of my life they Embrace the culture a lot. And so does some parts of Mexico and even Japan. But as far as the origins are concerned it’s Complex to discuss but El Paso TX and Los Angeles CA are very key locations of it by far.

The style per-dates California. The Tirilones we're around since 1910. The style didn't show up in California until the 40's. The suit was just the fashion at the time, the Tirilones actually pre date the suit too

What? Bruh you have no idea about Texas I was born in LA north Hollywood but I lived in dallas since I was 2 I’m 32 now and Pachuco came from El Paso from Juarez but in the rest of Texas we have city boy style and vaquero estilo norteño unlike many Californians we Latinos were lynched by racists in Texas and segregated from whites with the black homies this is why we came up with pachuco and vaquero estilo it’s our way now it has evolved because of the Mexicans who kept coming here. While Cali had lowriders it made its way down to Texas the car culture but unlike Cali Texas land isnt made for lowriders where you could ride smoothed and get close to the ground Texas is rough and like the land we needed to adopt and that’s when we got into Trokiando and then the new generation has evolved into Takuaches. But you cannot hate on Takuaches back then in Texas we were shamed for speaking Spanish having our culture many of us forgot our culture and language but now the new generation says fuck that and only speak Spanish to eachother but knowing English having Edgar haircuts(the Edgar was inspired by the Aztecs and Mayan haircuts) and listening to rolas from corridos to norteñas and Cumbia rap we pioneering a new latino style that (no hate to cali) y’all gave up on in cholos. I was in Cali the beginning of 2022 I barely saw some Edgar haircuts and some sort of lowriders trucks they just need a lingo that a friendly Texan …like me passed on to in pacoima 😈now let’s see how far it can go “si quema o no quema cuh”😎😎😎

@@VenomGaming-qh5dx You can get the cross without the radiant lines like some Indian Christians do. The misconception is that the lines represent mi vida loca or other things along these lines are false. Mi Vida Loca is symbolized by 3 dots and is gang related in origin. Northern Cali gangs use for lines or 4 dots. But the original meaning of the radiant cross still remains the same. The Pachucos or Tirilones adopted the cross from the Gitanos of Spain who brought the cross from the old world.
