Filmed on June 12, 2024. Another busy day on our vegetable farm, spraying sweet corn weeds, applying 28% nitrogen to the sweet corn, repairing plastic mulch that blew up during a storm and much more.

Liquid shade cloth comes off in the rain. It only works in areas where you get zero rain in the summer

We use a product called Stinger for thistle, can spray it right over top of corn works great! Recommend it
@wishwellfarmsАй бұрын
yes, i used it for years on my strawberries, but unfortunately it doesn't get anything else other than thistles on corn so that's why we use impact and atrazine and that combo kills everything.

Chemicals are the Best. We should hail to Germany and Switzerland, Bayer and Syngenta, we Love you

They certainly have their place and are very useful tools if used correctly

Great video. I wish I could no till we have heavy clay soil if I dont plow the corn wont get a deep root and will blow over usually a day or two before harvest of course. Good job with the plastic looks great.

I’ve been in that same field chisel plowing and laying plastic for 24 years now it could use a good deep rip or just rotate out of the field completely for a few years. Thanks, Mike.

😂 not quite, if you were to see a close-up, you would see how different they really are ha ha, but either way it’s certainly nice to have them out there in that bright sun! ☀️

Thank you, glad you enjoy the videos! I know what you mean about spraying herbicide over the top of corn it makes me nervous too. Believe it or not I’m actually trying to get out of this career. It just beats me down so much so next year we are going to be scaling back at least 50% and starting to look for a full-time employee to fill my shoes for the future.

I wonder if you could cut the end off that draw bar and have someone fabricate a end attachment for the draw bar that you could flip over . It would help withthe crawling under the tractor
@wishwellfarmsАй бұрын
Oh, I’m sure I could easily be done. Just haven’t moved forward with making a change, seem to always forget about it during the winter time when I could be fixing it.

Hey Jason, my dad sprayed lime water solution on his plastic to help keep.it cool. Obviously the rain would wash it off. He didn't grow during the summer in his greenhouse however.

Thanks for the tip!

@wishwellfarms Sorry, wish I could remember the details. I'm sure he just used his garden sprayer to spray the plastic down with the lime. If my dad did it, it had to be easy and very cheap!

Liquid Shade with either come off in the rain or some applications are paired with a removal agent.

Your years of experience and knowledge definitely show here. Your fixed up rows look great. The little bit of effort def seem worth it long run. Question about the herbicide. R u using a herbicide ready type sweet corn variety (varieties). Since corn is technically a grass, I've always heard and been told that controlling grasses in it is quite expensive, since u need something that won't affect the corn but will kill the grasses. Newly reclaimed ground that has been in pasture for years is horrible for crab grasses and a bit of a nightmare to plant corn in because of that. Thanks for the video. Love your content. I've been noticing I will set aside time to sit down and watch your videos when I won't b interrupted. Got to say something about the content u produce. Thx

Thanks Eric! Our corn is not roundup ready corn, I use impact, MSO and Atrazine and it cleans up everything, even grass. If for some reason I need even more grass control I throw in some Primero, which is generic Accent. There is only one Attribute corn variety out there that meets my expectations for flavor and texture and that is Matriarch, which is what I use for my final few late plantings. Really glad you have been enjoying the videos!

Just wondering if theres an attachment for your drawbar like a "hammerstrap" that could allow you to adjust height without having to crawl under the tractor? I went looking for something but there are 1,000 drawbars on deere's website. Some of the drawbars have obscene prices on them for what seems to be a length if steel. 😢
@wishwellfarmsАй бұрын
Yes, I’m sure we can fabricate something fairly easily. I just always seem to forget about working on it during the winter, kind of one of those things that’s out of sight out of mind during the off-season.
@newoldvideos989Ай бұрын
Why don't you make a 4 to 5 inch extension bar that would sit on top and connect to the bar you have now, so you can just swap it out without crawling under it ? I'm sure a welder could whip one up in less than an hour..
@wishwellfarmsАй бұрын
I’m sure it could easily be done, but don’t have time to mess with it during the summer, definitely a winter project! I can’t believe people are commenting about the drawbar thing. Maybe I should change my thumbnail and title to something about that instead ha ha

@@wishwellfarms LOL... Yeah, winter project. It'll be ready for next spring. Cant wait to see the video on it working :) Great Videos !

Watched a few of your videos now. Curious if you're trying to get out of such a dependency to spraying (cides and ferts) - seems like its a theme in most of your videos so I thought I'd ask your perspective on it.

I can’t get away from using herbicides unless I purchase lots and lots of different types of tillage equipment and even that is tough especially when you’re using no till. What a lot of people don’t realize is that even organic growers still spray they just use OMRI labeled products which are organically labeled products which is what we do for our insecticides and fungicides on most our vegetable crops Just not beans and corn and pumpkins. For many years we even used composted poultry litter as our fertilizer, but I was getting too much compaction when they spread it. Of course I would love to never use any conventional synthetic fertilizers and chemicals but at this point in my life as I’m starting to wind down my vegetable career, I’m not willing to jump through all these hoops to try and figure it out. Hope that makes sense.

Does your sweet corn post-emerge program require roundup ready traits?
@wishwellfarmsАй бұрын
No, we do not use gmo varieties for 90% of our acres because our customers don’t want them and we advertise our corn as non gmo. However, for the last few plantings we do plant a few acres of the Attribute 2 corn because of the heavy worm pressure but since it’s right next to our other corn we use regular herbicides on it. Impact with MSO and Atrazine will clean up the corn patch perfectly.
@wesleymarr8116Ай бұрын
@@wishwellfarms Thanks for responding, I have been trying to find better options for post emerge on sweet corn, I will have to try it.

hi can you not weild a bit onto your drawbar one on top one underneith or buy a second hand tracter
@wishwellfarms29 күн бұрын
Can’t have a high and a low drawbar at the same time or still cause clearance issues with all my equipment has to either be one or the other. We have other trackers on the farm, but they’re often being used for other things.
