This guy deserves the same respect,like we give to Kane,Root,Kohli, Smith & Babar. His innings of 290 reminded me of 233 by Rahul Dravid at Adelaide as that also came after Australia posted 556 all out in 2003, & in this Innings he posted 290 when Australia had scored 559/9 declared & his inn lead NZ to 624, lead of 65, Rahul's knock was special but couldn't get India the lead in 1st inn as India was out for 523, then India dismissed Aus for 191, and chased 233 with Rahul scoring 72* in 2nd inn-2003 Adelaide Test.Ross Taylor's knock helped NZ get lead & since It was ended on Day 4, Australia batted and asked NZ to chase a score which was out of the reach,so result wasn't possible, so it was a draw, after this match since Johnson where he picked 1 wicket in 1st inn, was Mitchell Johnson's last match & he retired after he got hammered by Ross,Kane, Mccullum.
