I got MILK from someone that had cows and I am not so sure of the language... If the milk just comes out of the cow is that what you would call cream? if not, how do I get cream??
@FromScratchFarmstead
@FromScratchFarmstead 3 ай бұрын
Great question! When you get it, the milk and cream will be combined. But if you let it sit for a day or so, the cream separates to the top. We like to put our milk in a wide mouth jar then use a small measuring cup to scoop the cream off the top. Hope that helps! Thanks for watching!

When I was young, my granny would give us a jar of cold milk to shake into butter. My uncle was in the Air Force and he brought granny a jar that had like a hand mixer that we turned to make the butter. My would fill the jar with cream,milk and strawberries then put it a bucket of ice and make ice cream.

Thank you. I was wondering did Americans have a butter making tool that I remember from Bosnia when I would go in village on vacation. It was made out of wood. It looked like barrel but extremely high and narrow. Like an epruvete or pipe. Then it had stick inside that had round beater attached on bottom and on top of "barrel" it ran through top cover. So you would beat with that stick with up and down motion and in the end you pull it out and butter was shaped like disk and already all liquid was squeezed out and left on the bottom of that barrel

That sounds like something that would have been used here as well in the past, but I've never actually seen one in action. Sounds very cool!

Hi! thanks for this video. It’s the second one I watched about using the vita mix to make butter. I used our raw cream and for the second time, before anything turned into whipped cream or butter, our mixture gets really hot! Not sure if it’s because we have an older vita mix or if I am just doing something wrong. Does your cream get pretty hot before it turns into butter? I’m feeling like it’s part of why ours isn’t solidifying. any insights you can share would be so appreciated!

Hi! Hmm, that’s interesting. I’ve never had that happen and It sounds like maybe your blender is heating up and not causing the milk to turn? Ours is always room temperature when it is whipped then butter. Is the motor on your vitamin really hot? Hope this helps and good luck!! And we have had good luck getting a used Vitamix on marketplace if you do need a new one.

I was wondering after seeing your video from a year ago about your manual grain mill if you ever got an electric mill and it appears you did not. THEN I saw that you have a Vitamix. Are you now grinding your flour with your Vitamix? I have an (old) Blendtec which was called Ktec when I bought it and I have been home-milling my grain for a couple of years now. It works so well that I can't honestly say I need to get an electric grain mill. I have heard online that when the flour grinding capabilities of the Blendtec and Vitamix have been compared that with the Vitamix you are apparently supposed to get a special dry container -- but I don't know why that would be necessary, though it would be nice to be able to blend something and then grind flour without having to wait a long while to make sure the container is dry enough.

Interesting! We actually haven't tried doing grains in our vitamix. We do have the dry blender and will use it for making veggie powders, egg shell powder, etc. Maybe we'll have to give it a go sometime!

It's pretty awesome! I still want to get a grain mill, but have been grinding my flours in the Blendtec for years now. Main disadvantages: it gets the flour pretty HOT (whereas I don't believe the grain mills do); and for me with the Blendtec I don't have a separate dry container but MUST be sure the container is very dry before milling -- which gets in the way of my other blending. If you haven't yet done so, check out Sue Becker and what she has to say on "The Bread Beckers" YT channel or their website. LIFE-changing information!@@FromScratchFarmstead

Hello, this is the first video I have watched of yours. You did and awesome job and I enjoyed it. We raise Nigerian dairy goats and I make lots of food with the milk. I do have a good ice cream recipe but I would love to hear about yours!!! Do you have a video on it? I looked but didn't see one. Thank you. Blessings to you and your family.

I just used a cream separator with this morning's goat milk and wanted to make butter. The instructions in my vitamix book are different from yours, but obviously it should still work. I'm trying your way now. The cream just gets hot, like steaming hot! Never turns into whipped cream or separates. I'm bummed.

@@FromScratchFarmstead I've made butter from goat milk before so I know it's possible! Yesterday after separating I put it in my mixer instead. (I really need a splash guard!) It took a long time and I didn't get very much. I think I may have not had heavy enough cream.

Hello! When you say cream, is that equivalent to heavy whipping cream?
@FromScratchFarmstead
@FromScratchFarmstead 5 ай бұрын
I believe so. I've always just skimmed the cream from our milk so I'm not sure what the difference is between the heavy whipping cream in the store is vs just the cream but I'd think as long as it's cream, it should work :)

Any suggestions if it's been blended for a long time, and it's not turning-becoming butter? Most things say blend 5 mins....this has been 4x5min internals?

@@robinhazeslip1800 sounds good! That could definitely make a difference. Bringing it to room temp (on the counter for 2-3 hours) is also really helpful to make the process go more quickly. Good luck!

I use a Daisy Butter Churn made in 1920s, wait for the temperature to get to about 60 degrees an crank about 30 minutes. This is for half gallon cream.
