Fishing For Big Roach On The River
For this latest episode we head to the tidal river Yare to try and target a few big Roach on the feeder.
Normally at this time of year the fish would be off the main river and holed up in boat yards and small dykes, however with unseasonably mild weather they haven't needed to move.
With reports extremely encouraging, with other anglers reporting larger numbers of fish with an excellent average weight, fish to over 1lb hadn't been uncommon, we decided to head down there for ourselves to see if we could get in on the action; the target being a Roach or two over 1lb.
To find out exactly how we got on and to perhaps find out a few tips along the way, watch this latest installment, from the waters edge.
As usual we hope you enjoy it and any feedback is always much appreciated.

yeah, roach can be little blighters on the feeder! We used to use the dink dink rig on the thames for them. That was pretty effective. It's basically a critically balanced feeder, with a short hook paternoster above it. The roach hit the bait, giving the 'dink dink', then hook themselves and dislodge the feeder, resulting in a drop-back bite. Dunno if you've heard of this, or tried it? if not, give it a bash :D

I had a holiday near to that pub about 10 years ago and fished about 100meters to the left of that peg in the summer and had 3 loverly days on the Yare ! Close enough to walk for a couple of pints ! I had a couple of Tench mixed in and quite alot of bootlace eels but a cracking river and would advise anybody to have a crack ! I also fished only about 3/4 rod lenths out due to boat traffic my thinking was not to be disturbed too much and have to keep reeling in for pleasure cruisers ! ALSO WHEN TIMOTHY WEST AND PRUNELLA SCALES ARE ON THE RIVER FILMING GREAT CANAL JOURNEYS ? WITH SCALES BEING NUTTIER THAN A STAR BAR in about 18ft of water my feeder was safe just not me When Scales was at the helm ! I SAID OIIII SCALES NO ! YOU MAY BE A LEGEND OF STAGE AND SCREEN BUT IF YOU CAME AROUND TO MINE ASKING TO PUT FAULTY TOWERS ON AGAIN ! ALL 8 EPISODES BACK TO BACK ! WHILE THE MRS WAS PEALING THE SPUDS ON HER LONESUM ! could you boys do a video or series about caring for maggots and casters please. I notice you have your casters in water. I seems like more than an incidental subject. The other thing is keeping your worms, I've had some luck keeping leftover worms and growing them on in compost. I've found it really handy to have some bait at home ready. Cheers, Dave
@FromTheWatersEdgeTV
@FromTheWatersEdgeTV 7 жыл бұрын
Hi Dave, I'm sure we could sort something out. The casters are kept in water (or in an air tight bag) as if they are left in the open air they will go dark and turn into floaters! Worms can be tough to keep... try and keep them cool, either in a fridge or on the garage floor. Cheers Chris.
@davidharvey5672

From The Waters Edge TV Cheers that would be great. As for worms, I'm having a go and have kept loads of leftovers alive for months dendrobiums and lob worms. but have had no eggs yet. I'm currently toying with temperature, moisture and food. What i can do is get fatter worms than when i bought them.
