Front Load Washer Door Boot Seal Replacement - How to Replace the Bellow

In this video, I show you how to remove and replace the door gasket boot seal or bellow on a Frigidaire / Kenmore front load washer.
This repair is necessary if you have a rip or tear in the door seal of your washer. This will cause it to leak and you will not be able to use your washer. If the gasket is extremely moldy, you may also want to replace it.
The washing machine in this video is a Frigidaire Gallery washer, however, this repair will be the same for Affinity model washers and Kenmore models made by Electrolux.
The repair is basically going to be the same for Whirlpool model washers, as well as Samsung, GE, Maytag and Bosch

Excellent tips here Bill! 6:15sec with the flat blade screwdriver for the win! I'd never though of the clamp as the 3rd hand. Very good info. Thanks again.

Thanks for the video. This was a nightmare. I think it would have been worth it to pay someone to do it for me, but thanks to your tips a whole lot of cursing, and a couple breaks to keep me from throwing the thing out a window it's back together and running

I use two clamps one at the 12 and one in the 3 o'clock position. that makes it a little easier. I sometimes put a little bit of dishwashing soap like Dawn to lubricate the boot seal it makes it a little easier to work the boot on. Some boot seals come with spacers to help install the inner spring. When I done this job for the first time, I used every curse word in the book. Hopefully, this video will take a lot of curse words out of many technician's vocabulary.

fianlly someone whos honest. every other video they make it seem so easy putting the bellow back on. im 45 mins deep and struggling to put that thing back on

Awesome video! very helpful...i use a big zip tie looped thru the steel spring ends to squeeze together (and give you slack)to hold the metal steel ring. once i slip on the metal ring, i cut the ziptie to tighten the steel ring tension.

Hello Bill Newberry; i did one of these and had no problems. I just remove the big round weight it took 7 mins. Haha very easy to do.... that spring was easy if you do it my way, by using a clamp like you are using in this video but you must use it every 90 degrees and it will not slide off believe me... ps NEVER EVER USE A SHARP TOOL AROUND A RUBBER BELLO BOOT EVER !!!

I put one clamp on the 12 and 3 o'clock position and it worked. When I done the job in the shop, I took off the weight(s) and my boss had a fit. He was mad and said; "if that weight breaks or shatters, we're screwed! You don't have to take that off you're just wasting time" I can understand why. They are expensive and because of the weight, the shipping charges are a lot. All what has to happen is if it accidentally gets dropped or if something falls on it. Also, that day we were pressed for time.

I found if I kept wetting the edge with a little water it would slip on a lot easier. I had a small bowl of water and kept putting my fingers in it and rubbing a small area before moving on to it. Hope that helps. Oh yes a good prayer always helps too.

thanks for the video, I now can remove the rubber seal to clean the black stuff off. It's impossible to clean it well in place.

If anyone is familiar with "tire irons" used to change tires on motorcycle rims, I would think they would be the perfect tool to help reinstall the spring rings.

Awesome vid as usual! :) Really I never thought the idea of springs in a door boot seal. That was pretty interesting info I learned right there. One question, can you tell me the name of the song that was playing, or is this a stock song that KZfaq lets you have in your vids? I kinda like that song to play to on drums.. haha

i just use 2 more clamps and it was easy... never use a sharp screw driver it could slip and cut door boot.. and if you use a little soap it will help a lot... i have done many of these door boots over the last 7 years tons of them i never remove that front door panel to much time... i can do these in 30 mins... just use soap in groove. and 3 clamps that's it..

Either this video or that spring have been tampered with. I've been trying for hours and there's no f****** way that spring goes on that easily.

just clamp at a 2:00 O-clock position and pull spring very tight over the top ,, then clamp it at 10:00 O-clock position,,,, and pull it very tight around to the 6:00 O-clock position and it will go on easy i have done many of these.. just use a little soap in groove and pull very tight at the start to get more spring length ...
