Frontier Rear Axle Differential Breather Mod

Күн бұрынToday on DIY WILLY we installing the common rear axle/differential breather mod to our 2008 Nissan Frontier. Upgrading and relocating the axle vent protects the axle from water intrusion and fixes the problem of the factory part rusting closed and causing failures. When this part fails usually causes a leak out of the axle seals. This a very easy mod that anyone could do and could save you from costly repair bills.

I don’t off road & I never submerge the rear end in water on my Frontier. I live in the rust belt & have a 2019 model. The vent spring still moves freely up & down & I’m wondering if you think it would be ok to just leave the factory vent in place & just check it & maybe oil it @ each oil change?

Hello, Yes definitely check often. However this mod is cheap and easy to do. It will give you a piece of mind knowing you don’t have to worry about it. Thanks for watching!!

I personally would not zip tie it to the brake line that way. May chafe or rub the brake hose.

You should have put a little sealer on the threads before installing the Barb into your diff!

Just curious to why you need sealer? No sealer from the factory🤔

I believe the suggestion is just a precaution. It’s not needed.

I really appreciate your videos. Definitely a subscriber. Are the threads 1/4"NPT or 3/8"NPT?

It’s not NPT, but straight thread NPTF. If you do a search for this Toyota part # 9040451026 it’s close enough for DIY kit or I would recommend the kit I used from Gorilla or the kit from PRG products. Look in the description for links

The Amazon link for barb fitting is to use with the small filter to attach the hose. Not for use on the axle.

spray some wool wax underneath the body. all that rust is getting bad.

Wool wax? I’ve never heard of it. I’ll check it out. The previous owner spent some time in Ohio with the truck according to Carfax. I’m guessing that’s where the rust started on the salted roads. Was a pain in the but to install the lift kit. Definitely will look in to wool wax. Thank you and thanks for watching
