For me the whole SBX tournament was criminally underrated, some of my favourite routines and performances in beatboxing and looping came out of this tournament. I loved the format and creativity of the format and thought all entrants / artists where outstanding 👏👏👏

I love how in Robins first round he says: "I'm putting on the autotune for you" but in the second part when he starts building those harmonies he doesnt use any to just show that he can do it without autotune just as well.

16:02 I believe he is using the Helix sequencer to create that melody: The very first sound you hear after the silent recording (He first records some of the bass I believe) is his synth trumpet/pad which he produces with beatbox and some additional effects on top but the first time around he just gives it endless sustain, then he triggers the Helix to play the sequence which includes that quick arpegiatted melody and the rest of the pieces are the bass and snare hits and the double synth voice which I believe can be done by either the Helix or the 505 MK 1 he has but because of the quality of the sound I believe is the harmonizer effect on the Helix too and it's not the only thing in the patch so it sounds even more electronic in addition to being his voice and an octave down mixed in he has other effects on it too. This kind of triggered note sequence is precisely what got Inkie disqualified vs NME for using this exact same device set up with this exact same effect of using a sequencer in GBB2019 but this being SBX and later GBB2021 the rules were more relaxed to allow for others like Frosty to come in and use the Helix without repercussion now that people understood that it can basically store and play certain melodies like that so just a small aside because it's a very clean and easy to hear example of what people mean by 'No second device!' this high quality synthezier sequencer is precisely what people like Brez and Bizkit have called out in "Second device"

16:03 yo anthony, ive got an explanation for you if noone has done it yet. Im sure someone can give a more detailed description. But the tldr of it is when he makes that constant tone immediately before, he sequences it using an effect called oscilator bot. And he has it set using settings to start the sequence when a new sound is input through the mic, in this case the kicks, which also have effects through the linr 6.

So crazy thing about these battles. They each had 1 day to prepare their round and record it. So like each battle took a week long to complete. So for example. Frosty found out he was battling Robin. He had 1 day to make his round and post it. Robin would then watch his round and take 1 day to make his round and post it. Incase you didn't know!

Bruh, when i jeard the second round of frosty for the first time, i was a different man after that

about making a preset in new school way - like Inkie, Fosty, Dice etc. do - a big part of it is using guitar processors (like line 6 helix) with sequencing so one kick or snare on a mic generates the whole melody, but managing those features and techniques as well as finding a good sound and make a nice mix is still very hard job. it may look like a "cheating" but it's actually a very clever usage of the technology within the rules. I don't know who invented that but it definitely blow up once Inkie brought Line 6 Helix to the GBB 2019. OR maybe sequencing part is coming from MK2? correct me pls somebody who actually knows 🙏

Robin is one of the biggest loopers in the scene, made it to finals in 2023 but been competing for many years at GBB. a lot of people in your stream wrote about mk2 effects on frostys round. I dont think frosty really used the mk2 fx. He used effects of his second device. The Line 6 Helix. Which makes me think that that round is possible on mk1 as well and he didnt necessarily create it in one month. Still insane tho.
