Family of 8 here in California. Can relate to the “we’ve always been frugal , my kids don’t know any different” my oldest just moved out with her new hubby and on day 3 in their new house she called me and was just sputtering and she said….. “ tell him!!!!!” He could not understand why she was upset that he paid $12.00 for a pound of cut fruit and 6.99 for premade (fresh) pico de gallo for their meal preps. He had seen her list of ingredients and the store she said to go to (she was putting the closets together so he went to the store). They make a very good living between the two of them and he is used to just paying for whatever whenever. They moved to an inexpensive apartment but safe, do they can save to buy a house before they turn 30… in two years. They have a decent amount saved and she is used to living frugal. He is not so much. I laughed and told him to come have dinner with me tommorrow night. I told her to send me a picture of the receipt. I bought the same items and spent 30 min prepping the fruit and veg. It was $6.00 and it tasted better. I think we have brought him over from the dark side😂😂😂😂 Told him he could just pay me the difference as the financial consultant. ❤😂

We have always been frugal so my kids know how to shop. Daughter was in her first serious relationship and they had 80 dollars to buy groceries. She called me in tears he wouldn't listen to her when he was putting 12 dollar bacon in the cart (that is what his mom always bought). I told her don't argue with him about it and wait until he gets to the till and has to decide what will go back. It was over 300 dollars worth of groceries and he had to make hard decisions while under pressure. She told him after the fact they could have got all the same things if they would have just looked for cheaper items like the 3 dollar bacon etc.

That sounds like the first fight of my parents’ marriage. My mom grew up pretty poor (couldn’t add butter to noodles, etc) & lived on her own as an adult so she was very frugal. My dad on the other hand lived with his parents rent free until he got married & was used to having expendable income & a minimum of $100 pocket change for random fun stuff. Their 1st trip to the grocery store did not go well so I’m told.

@@shannonbrice8012 yes!!! My daughter’s hubby was so shocked that he could save so much money! About 3 days later she sent him to my house to go shopping for groceries😂😂😂 I have a well stocked pantry. She also had given him a note with items to buy if I did not have it. She pinned a note on his shirt (like a kindergarten kiddo 💝😂) it said. “Have mercy and go with him, he only has 40 and no atm or credit cards. He has to make it work. “ He has a very good sense of humor, and we went off to the discount grocery store and dollar tree. He had enough money to get everything and had about 5 left. The rule is that the leftover money will go into a piggy bank and they will use it for spending money on our family vacation next May. ( they can put any amount in they want as additional savings)

Thank you so much for speaking so candidly about the challenges of being a mom/parent, even after willingly if not happily choosing to be home full-time. I’m in a good place now, but it was a matter of months vs years ago that I felt like a broken failure getting it wrong and screwing everything up. Permission to get a snack and take a nap. It doesn’t fix everything, but it helps shine some light on dark places. To know you’re really not doing anything wrong, you’re just being forged in the fire is so helpful to hear. Becoming a real (velveteen) bunny hurts sometimes (sometimes a lot), but it doesn’t mean you’re on the wrong path.

Our kids are now 18 and 21, and it is fun to see them adapting the frugal practices they grew up with into their own lives, making priorities, and saving towards goals. We also have always done adventure camping/mountain biking trips, and though there were the tween years when it wasn't their favorite, now they are going on their own camping adventures.

Two days ago I hit the get in the car and leave, with no set plans to come back. At least you have a destination in mind. I did not. Mexico sounds nice. I told my husband he could come and bring the dog. Haha. I told him I either needed to leave, get therapy or eat tacos. We had tacos for lunch, and I took a nap, and I called a friend and cried. I also ended up getting sick later that day. So that explained some things. 🤷🏼‍♀️😅🙃 I like the q and a format.

Just found this and it’s wonderful! I’m commenting on the “house full of celiacs”. My 30 year old daughter called me day before yesterday to thank me for not allowing them to self identify as “Celiacs”. They were taught to think & say something like, “I have this (diagnosis) therefore I manage my diet.” Having to deal with something in life doesn’t make you that thing. You hear people often making their challenge their identity. I have to credit this perspective to an author I’ve forgotten. The book was too weird to buy but in the radio interview she pointed out that people adopt illnesses like evil pets which is an obviously unhealthy approach. Maybe this will help someone have a healthy attitude about a health issue.

Just a little advice on the "downsizing" Remember, your home will be the gathering place for all family get together. The kids will marry and have children. They will visit. You will host bigger holiday gatherings than you can imagine. Build the new home with large family gatherings in mind. This next phase is pretty amazing. ❤❤❤

I can attest to y’all being frugal from the beginning. While at a restaurant or gas station, I remember there being a debate between you and FruFitDad over whether to spend another dollar or two over whether to get a 2nd drink or if you should just share. Being the free spirited kid I was, I remember thinking, “it’s 2 bucks, I’ll get it!!!.” But now… I get it! 😂

I’ve always been frugal also. I still am at 61. I don’t feel deprived because I don’t deprive myself if that makes sense. I just don’t have a lot of wants. When I was first married we didn’t make a lot of money. Coupons were a blessing!!! Also, the best deal was bread 5 loaves for $1. We would use one for sandwiches and French toast, etc. I would make croutons and bread crumbs with the rest. Way before those kinds of things were popular. Kudos you’re amazing!

We would not forget about you in a year...lol. Or at least I wouldn't. I would be the person who was like "I wonder what Christine and Dave are up to?" because I am nosy.

I had to return sofa and chair to Costco because they were just plain uncomfortable, they sent a couple guys to pick them up within days of my return request. They guys were super nice and the whole process was super easy the return $ went back to my card within days. It was so nice; I was in awe. I have been a member for 20 years never returned anything except for a broken Brita carafe. So yeah, return the couches if you need to : )

Cas will literally break me down in tears. She knows exactly what to say to get me motivated. That's how I ended up decluttering my kitchen at 3 am one night I had insomnia. I have a LONG way to go but it was a good start.

Same thing happened to me-an interview for the news. I felt so used after the interview. I thought they actually wanted to interview me but really they just just wanted 10-second snippets of answers to their questions for the story that they probably wrote 2 days prior. 😂

Thanks Christine I had a lot of laughs. This working mom bought a semi inter tube and we went to the lake almost everyday in the summer after work. My kids still talk about all the fun we had. Dang girl how do you handle all these negative comments and people? I thank you for answering all the questions. Must be a Texas thang I just like happy upbeat people. Yes we have a gut job for $259 but its on almost 3 acres. Got you beat. Update we have a new HEB with a drive thru BBQ restaurant. What is next? You would not believe the prices. The most beautiful chicken leg quarters 28 cents a pound. Big beautiful watermelons from the valley $2.49. I can't even remember all the sales. Wine samples, shrimp and rice with Cajun seasoning. OMG was that delicious. Yes I bought those big 21-25 count for $4.99 pound. Yippee. Please take care of yourself and have a great week.

Ha thought your headline is clever; it's questions people asked! I can relate to your lifestyle. I have 2 boys and we live very similar. Paid our house off within 9 years, no debts, we go camping, we do go overseas too but use airpoints for flights, we live below our means and save, agree teenagers are challenging at times and life is so busy with them but as you said everything is just for that short time and not forever. Keep up the great videos and love your lifestyle hacks and recipes.
