For a recent road trip I set up the 857D on battery power to work digital FT8.
I fixed some problems with my setup and made the operation much easier
for future activation's.

I like seeing how you overcome the challenges of radio. I am working on SOTA via FT8, a good mode for the low power of the 818. Thanks for the ideas.

The choke is the number one things you need to do when doing mobile.

Tarheel only job, I use the Pile Up buster, Tarheel 200a..

Placing the choke at the base of the antenna, you will get better reception and less common mode current.

I love the resonator, but I think the a Diamond HF10CL would be a better choice. I use the HF20CL and you can drive 70mph, and no need to worry if it falls out.

Kevin you're a brave man lol, great video on this and with a great radio. I wonder what would happen if you had some unistrut mounted in the middle of your bed and the antenna in the middle.

I had a Breedlove Mount on my F150 and it ruined the bed stake metal on my bed. I had a screwdriver antenna mounted to it. I found the bed is not beefy enough for a high load antenna. I made my own mount out of 1/4" aluminium plate and mounded back by the tailgate. Using the 3/4" holes by the tailgate. Just my 2 cents. N7JZU
