How did you attach the mobile radio head to the camera mount? Did you drill a compatible hole into the radio head?

The radio head has a Bracket and that bracket had a threaded insert. Kenwood.👍

That was a spring loaded clamp that I had in my parts box. Should be a common find on amazon.

So is the first setup the sloped wire configuration? I always thought the antenna would be in the trees and the line winder on the ground, I think I did my emcomm wrong .
@hamradiowithkevin3 күн бұрын
No, done antenna are designed to be on the ground, and others are designed to be in the air. If your new to radio, keep this in mind, if you can make contacts with your setup it is a win. To me, the only wrong way is to not put up an antenna at all. Can some antennas work better than others? Absolutely, do most all antennas work? You bet. Keep setting up and having fun. You will learn more everytime. 73

Nice video. Folks may consider a DIY battery. I just built a 105 AH LiFePO4 battery. The 4 prismatic cells just nicely fit in a U1 battery box. I used a JBD-SP04S020 4S 120A LiFePO4 BMS which has low temperature cut off and is controlled via Bluetooth app. I had the BMS left over from a previous 560AH battery build for my sailboat, but new would cost $60. Alternatively, one could get a basic BMS for about $12. In the end, the 105AH battery cost me $115 for the cells plus $12 for a NOCO U1 battery box. Looks and works great. I can send phots if interested.

Surprised to see you doing this test at night. NVIS typically work better during the day. There may be more noise, but the SNR is still better. Very interesting. 73

Greg, it is so hard to keep the 2 antennas in stock. we run out at least 1once a week. and then get more completed. The machine works takes far longer than we would like. Visit the website and again and pre-order one today. Thanks for asking. hamradiogear.company.site/

Interesting video, finding hardware for me changed when I discovered RAM MOUNTS which are an USA based company I believe and I would say the mounts you have shown are similar. So for example the 480 head unit I felt you over complicated the fact you had to fabricate the l bracket when ram mount do several brackets that could be used to fit and are all adjustable as I also have the 480 head mounted in my car. Ram Mounts do the track system, they do systems that fit on the chair bolts and can support laptops and radio equipment. Anyways I hope you don't take offense at my comment, I am sure you know all about RAM MOUNTS. 73 Duncan

makes sense :) 63 feet is 0.5λ at 40m, and the total 130 feet is half wave at 80 So must be a 49:1 balun there.. heard it can benefit from a 0.05λ counterpoise.. maybe that'll improve the SWR in those heights where it were off a little 🤔

Thanks Kevin. Looks like I'll be getting two Redodo's at 200 ah and 200 amps. Coupled with 800 watts of solar and a 3000 watt inverter/solar charger. It'll be a good setup. 400 ah with a full sun recharge of around 30 amps (derated). This should leave me with a full charge after daytime activities at full draw. Your thoughts? Anyone's thoughts?
@hamradiowithkevin10 күн бұрын
Double check the numbers to make sure and consume power with reckless abandon! I like that.
@Rusted_Link11 күн бұрын
Did I miss the SWR readings in the elevated TDL configuration? Ok it's at 12:12 That's why I'm re-watching. What's your thoughts? Which performs more gooderestest? < Don't judge me because I'm smart enough to make up new wirds🤣 CHA TDL or LEFS 4010
@hamradiowithkevin10 күн бұрын
The 4010 does not require a tuner and the TDL does. You might decide based on what gear you have to accommodate that.

I once did the math on these. Basically, what I remember is that you get 10% or less efficiency on 40m, about 20% on 20m, and 50% or maybe a bit more on 10m. You get about 2-3 db of gain in the plain. I’ve had success with them. At the last solar maximum, I made a contact in turkey. You’re probably radiating 5w on 20m. Not horrible. Is it worth $300? Probably not.

Hi K7SW, I was wondering if you're on the 8th floor of the building , do you still need to pull the length on the antenna, or would it work coiled up?
@hamradiowithkevin28 күн бұрын
I am not 100% sure what you mean, so , if you altered in the 8th floor, uncoil your wire antenna for sure. 👍 it should work really well.

@@hamradiowithkevin Sorry about that. What I mean, I am in an apartment on the 8th floor. I was thinking of hanging it off my balcony wall but not sure if the height alone is enough or do I still need to unravel the cable.
