Hello Mark....I just wanted to thank you for this informative video. I have several Heil microphones from a few years ago that I wanted to use with my Yaesu FTDX 101 D, (Heil Goldline, Heil Pro Set Elite 6/Headset). Your video helped me get mine set-up so that I am getting regular comments on how good the tx audio sounds. Thanks for the great video. I have used your parameters with excellent results with the handheld microphone. Also with desk microphone MD 100 and M 70 Yaesu it's very good modulation. Congratulations for your job.

Thanks Mark for this great tutorial! My audio was awful with the stock microphone, and now it sounds great on air. I am baffled how Yaesu could not get a normal sounding modulation out of the box.

Yaesu's documentation for their parametric equaliser is not just misleading, it is wrong. Their diagrams are wrong and their description and menus are wrong. They have been wrong since Yaesu first used this equaliser and blindly copied it with each new model. They consistently swap "Q" and "BWTH" (Bandwidth). This IS important as one is the INVERSE of the other. Centre frequency (f), Q and 3dB bandwidth (BW) are related by the simple formula BW=f/Q. In Yaesu's menu system, the numbers labelled "BWTH" are actually "Q". A serious error. If you set the Q of an equaliser pole to ZERO (like you have done in section 2), then that section has infinite bandwidth. i.e. It is just behaving as a level control with no change in frequency response. As Q increases, Bandwidth decreases, NOT the other way around.

Very complicated to tailor the audio. What happened to ease of setting the DSP audio like in radios such as the Yaesu FT-920? Menu of TX microphone DSP choices of OFF, 1, 2, 3, or 4. Simple. Non-confusing. Precise. OFF: DSP microphone equalization is disable. 1: Mid- and high-frequency components are enhanced . 2: A high-emphasis response is produced, ideal for pile-up or contest work. 3: Both low- ang high-emphasis response are produced. 4: A wide bandpass response is produced, emulating a “Broadcast” microphone audio characteristic.
