Digi-Sel will not make any difference on the signals you are listening to. It is a half-octave filter designed to reduce IMD from signals that are 1 to 6 Mhz away, and typically out of band. The Yaesu VC tune is a RF pre-selector which does cut adjacent QRM but operates differently than digi-sel. This is a often misunderstood feature of these rigs.

My Yaesu arrived today, and I’ve got a steep learning curve ahead but looking forward to it! They are both great radios, thanks for the video!

Own both, and yes the Yaesu will sound much better when eliminating noise ( the N.R is MUCH BETTER ) this can not be missed when used while experiencing poor propagation and noise on the bands. yet for general use, the IC7610 gives a much nicer tone that makes it's audio quality great.

it seems that the FTDX101MP sounds better, but you said it 5k.. ouch!

Both sound pretty good. The Yaesu is a really nice radio.

Seems to me that the equalizer settings and perhaps it is the IC-7610 speaker that makes the sound fuller.

Yaesu clearly is a radio that cuts the mustard ! Unlike the iCOM that has no adjustability for noise. And the Yaesu looks like a radio and not a cheap transistor

In a contest multi station setup I would prefer the FTDX101, but otherwise always the Icom 7610.

Had they the same filter bandwith and shift? If you do this, the Icom 7610 is much better (more bass, smoother and soft...)

Digi-Sel seems kind of useless, and the Yaesu sounds better to me. I can't speak to its ergonomics or ease of use but it plain sounds better.

Right on the money!! you got skills yes sir you drive those Radios perfect !!! And give us Ham radio fans and swl folk a delight of a video most of us may never have the funds to do this test And i think its great that your showing us what many have Qustioned God bless you sir

The Icom sounds much more articulate to me and on some of the strong signals, the Yaesu sounded kind of muffled. I like the band scope much better on the Icom, seems to show more detailing on the Icom.

I have an Icom 7300 & a Yaesu 101MP & noticed the same thing. When I talked to Tim at Yaesu I mentioned that & he claimed that the more pronounced scope fluidity or detail results in a sacrifice in receive capability, which was something they considered when they designed the radio. I've heard that the 101 has the "best" rcvr out there, & so many factors influence what is heard. In the long run, the "sacrifice" may be something only measurable electronically.

Don´t forget you have to pay extra for the remote-box with the yaesu. That´s a NOGO for a Radio which costs 3400 Euros the 101d or 5000 Euros the MP. 73´s from DH1KJ

ICOM 7610 sound clear audio and offer much more posibilities and remote control. YAESU 101MP have muffled audio and seems work with more bugs in firmware. Not impressed YAESU 101MP to me...

In my best Forest Gump voice, I might not be a smart man but why are you trying to improve an S9+ signal with all them knobs and menus and stuff? Mama always said if the noise is too loud just turn it down some. I like to use my RF gain. It works real fine. But on those weak signals, you know the ones you can't but hardly hear for all the fuzz n stuff. Then I wish I had me some menus and a bunch a knobs. Maybe y'all could find one of those and try this test again.I wanna hear a signal pop outta nowhere with one of them magic features.
