Fuelab Tech Tips: Return Line Plumbing

The purpose of this video is to demonstrate the effect of having an overhead splash return instead of having the return below the surface, such as using a dip tube.
Interesting Facts: The voltage output reading, next to the pressure gauge in the video, indicates the reading directly from the 529xx Series Electronic Regulator. Each 529xx Series Regulator has an analog output that can be monitored through either a voltmeter for diagnostics or a data logger system for fuel system performance tracking. As shown in video, the idle condition (no additional engine load) shows the system at about a 1.5 Volt output. At fuel throttle or full demand the output gets up to about 5.0 Volts.
The fuel pump used in this video is a Fuelab Model 42402-2, the regulators used in this video are a Fuelab Model 52902-1 (Electronic) and a Fuelab Model 52501-1 (In-Line).

I use my dual fitting sumped tank for supply and return with no issues. Most places will tell you not to do it, but my intention was to prevent aeration of the fuel. Sure I inject a little heat back into the tank but the methanol system flows so much fuel heat rise is minimal through the bypass regulator. Thanks for the video Fuelab - Subscribed.

I have all mechanic fuel cell is in bed of truck everything is plumbed on the top of cell have regulator psi is fluctuating between 5 and 6 psi. Any ideas ....

What is with the 1.67 voltage? A 12V motor should barely run if at all with that kind of voltage. Is that just a signal voltage. This is not a PWM signal.

Very interesting, so a top "drain in" return on a fuel cell actually causes more turbulence than returning the fuel thru the bottom sumped fittings at the bottom of most cells?

what is the fitting that is wrapped around the hardline? Is that some kind of flowmeter?

That is where they tapped in between the pump and regulator to show the fuel pressure on the gauge.

I was told that the second line on the bottom of the tank should not be used as a return line do to the added pressure from the fuel in the tank the the returning gas has to overcome

The 2nd Fitting On A Fuel Cell Is For A Return Fuel System. The Top 2 Fittings Are For Vent & Roll Over Valve Only....

@@jerryengle4684 In my cars I use a 10an pass through bulkhead with a 10an to 5/8 hardline compression fitting and run stainless tubing with a 90 degree bend just above the bottom of the fuel cell pointing along the back wall to the opposite side. Having the return right next to the outlet in the sump recirculates hotter fuel and any air bubbles back to the pump easier. And it can cause turbulence which makes it harder for the pump to draw in fuel, especially when returning around half of the fuel volume to the cell
