The Fuji 16mm 1.4 - my favorite lens. Also has an incredibly great focal distance, of about 5.5 cm or something crazy. It costs more than the X-T20 itself, but it's incredible for landscape and other wide angle shots.

I've never gone wider than 24mm in 20 years of photography. You definitely showed off what the lens can add to a portfolio. I'm getting this as I've been doing a lot more street architecture type shooting often at night. It's nice of samyang to share this little gem with so many different mounts, I'll be using this with a6400.

Omar, to fix the lens EXIF go to the Shooting Settings (the little camera icon) and to Mount Adapter Settings. Go down to "Lens 5" and edit it to reflect 12mm. Now the EXIF data will say 12mm and I have heard that it will be able to do the math for exposure a little better if it knows the field of view of the lens. If you shoot JPEGs I would recommend while you are there to also do the Distortion Control and fix the barrel and pincushion distortion for the JPEGs. Then do the Color Shading Correction and using a grey piece of paper and use the selector to adjust shading until there is no visible difference in color between the corner and the center of the image. Then adjust the darkness of the vignette with the Peripheral Illumination Correction setting (a plus value makes corners brighter). None of this really matters if you are shooting RAW, but it is nice to have it say 12mm in Lightroom so that you can sort by lens and find all the pictures you took with this lens.

Love this lens so much, I bought one for Sony E and another Fuji X. Manual focusing on this one is almost impossible to mess up if you're using it for landscape/city shots. At such a wide angle, almost everything is in focus from about 3 feet in front of you to infinity.

i just got back from a short trick to Australia, took my 18-55 and 55-200 plus some new primes I bought lately he 12mm Samyang, plus 56mm F1.2 and 23mm F1.4. I used mostly the 23mm F1.4 and the 12mm. They were awesome. the 55-200 was fab for a wildlife sanctuary I visited. The 56mm I didn't use much, just not too much of a walkaround lens but I did get some nice shots of street entertainers. It was the first time I had really used the primes so I was using them more than the zooms, but it was interesting to see which lenses I used most :)

I bought this lens from your earlier review. It is indeed very sharp. Love what it can do. Been shooting some real estate for my friend and works out very well. However you are right about how wide it is for other purchase. It is too wide unless I have no room to back up. I do have a small issue with the focusing. I use focus peeking on my Sony a6500 as well, between focus almost to infinity and infinity. There is a small focus difference area. The peeking shows completely colored up on the subject, but the image comes out slightly blurry. Focus to infinity, everything is sharp. I still need to play around with it more. Need to do some focus testing to learn the sweet spot.

Go to the mount adapter setting on your XT20, select option 5 or option 6 and set the focal length to 12mm. Then exit out. It's a table of six lens focal lengths that was there to work with the Fuji M-Mount adapter. The first four positions are fixed but position 5 and 6 can be customized. You will now see 12mm in the Exif but f1 will always show when you use any manual lens.

I'm a little hesitant to get a manual lens, but I just realized that I may be getting lazy with auto focus. I want something small, wide, prime yet affordable for travel soooo, this one's it. I agree when you said that some photos are half done and the camera doesn't do all the job because when I browse at old photos that didn't seem interesting to me transforms into something amazing upon post process, it becomes something creative than just taking amazing one shot photos.

When I was looking for a lens wider than 16mm, I ordered a 12mm Rokinon and a 12mm Zeiss. My original intent was to keep the one I liked the best. I kept them both. I use the 12mm f/2 manual focus Rokinon in my fast prime kit with my 16mm f/1.4, 23mm f/1.4, 56mm f/1.2, and adapted 135mm f/2 Zeiss lenses. I use the 12mm f/2.8 auto focus Zeiss in my zoom kit with my 16-55mm f/2.8 and 50-140mm f/2.8 lenses.

I had the Rokinon and it was very sharp but I found it difficult to focus in low light as my eyesight isn't great at night. I ended up selling it. Now thinking of either the 10-24 or 16mm f1.4. I do mostly landscape and street. I feel the 16mm would be better for me as it can do more. Love the channel. Love from Scotland.

I bought this last year together with the Fujinon 23mmF2 lens and honestly I have not used the Rokinon that much. I feel the manual focusing is not great. Quality wise it is not great enough to replace the 23mmf2 or even my 18-135 3.5/5.6....I only bought the Rokinon thinking I will use it for night photography only. So far that hasn't happened yet. I might resell it. Honestly I suggest people who travel a lot to consider the 18-135 mm...it is really sharp for a zoom lens and you really can get the most out of it that is in par with the sharper lenses like f2s

I tried using it as a walkabout lens in the evening for the extra stop. But, I don't find the f2 that useful at night if you are shooting handheld. I find myself switching back to the 18-55 f2.8 all the time. I can shoot handheld at a lower iso and get cleaner shots because of the OIS on the kit lens. I sacrifice some width, but at least I don't get blurry shots like I do with the samyang.

@BenjaminFreddie
@BenjaminFreddie 6 жыл бұрын
I've seen that one. Is that aperture legit?
@Krekkertje
@Krekkertje 6 жыл бұрын
Benjamin Freddie it's legit as far as the diameter of the lens opening goes. In a very non scientific test my X-T20 gave the same shutter speed at f/0.95 with the Mitakon as it did with the 16/1.4. That was with evaluative metering though. The vignetting might be the cause of that. Gotta try the the same experiment with spot metering in the center. But beside being a good low light lens, it's a lens with amazing character and beautiful bokeh.

Just came back from a big vacation - lots of architecture - used the Rokinon 12 a lot - much fun - but the viewscreen was often dark and the images are not crisp - lots of trouble with high contrast lighting conditions (interior stained glass windows) - the wide angle is really fun, but the image clarity is very disappointing. Just ordered the Fujifilm 16mm to replace this lens.

Hi Omar. You mentioned that the exif data says 50mm. You probably know this, but for manual lenses, you can set the focal length in the menu. Thanks for your videos, I look forward to the 18-55 travel video :)

Also useful to set the focal length to 12mm so if you’re using auto iso with auto minimum shutter speed it will go down to SS 17 instead of something else that’s not really optimal =)

Went to B&h and Amazon to find this lens and it appears to be a little different than yours. The aluminum base at the mount is wider on yours and theirs has "Samyang" printed on them , not Rokinon. Do you think that it may be the same lens perhaps only upgraded?
@Ackord02
@Ackord02 5 жыл бұрын
james R.maybe that lens was meant for another camera, making the mount somewhat different? Rokinon is just a rebranding for the US market, it is the same lens.

There's a new lens from China--The laowa 9mm f2.8. It really good for the price.

More expensive, more vignetting, not as bright, but yeah 9mm without distortion is very interesting. I think both are cool options.

Sacha Martin laowa is also very small. Was never bothered with vignette for stills, but not ideal for video..

Can you make a rokinon 12mm f2 vs xf 16mm f2.8 please. I'm torn between which one to get.

Christopher Frost Photography has good review of both lenses. The Samyang 12mm f2 got "Highly Recommended" and the Fujinon 16mm f2.8 "Just about Recommended".

ok - thanks Omar, I am convinced. Bought the 12 mm and put it on my x-20 right at sunsettime. But no, it wouldn‘t shoot I culd not use the release button. I missed the shot of my life.😩 Then I put on the kit lens again, but the release button was still blocked. What‘s the secret?

Just bought this and it’s the best Astro lens for Fuji. Even beating the 3x more expensive Fuji options according to many people. And as Omar shows it doubles nicely as a landscape/all purpose wide angle if you can nail the manual focus. Hope this helps
