In our initial preview of the Fuji X-T2, we were unable to shoot images and video. To make up for that, Fujifilm Canada flew us to New York to give the X-T2 a proper field test! See how Chris and Jordan found the handling and performance of Fuji's new flagship.

What an exceptional vid! I'm binge-watching vids of this FUJI model tonight and there is definitely no shortage of well done raving reviews, but this one, between Billy popping in, and running for the AF demo, and the shots of the 240Z and GT40..........mercy! I feel like if I empty my already full shopping cart, this will be my forever camera.

Hopefully Fuji will listen and allow F-log to be recorded internally, it's such a waste to let it be exclusive for HDMI external recorder. I know that 8-bit 420 is not ideal for log but at least it gives the users the option like Sony and Panasonic do.

But it's a good thing that you can use Fuji Colours with the Film Simulation, can you use Grain Simulation in video as well? Which film simulation you found to be more cinematic? I think a toned down Provia and a Classic Chrome would look pretty good as for out of the box video. I wished the X-T2 had a swivel screen and touchscreen, even more since Fuji is now getting into video territory, Panasonic showed that it can be pretty nice to have it. Hopefully filmmakers will embrace the X-T2 more than previous Fuji cameras and as a consequence, Fuji needs more OIS lenses or put a 5-axis IBIS on the next one.
@iforgotmyusername0
@iforgotmyusername0 8 жыл бұрын
+theSUBVERSIVE Fuji already has 8 OIS Lenses + another announced for 2017. don't look for ibis on Fuji X mount as manager states ibis is incompatible with their lens mount as they don't want to sacrifice image quality. fuji also claims a touch screen will be conflicting to a dial operation camera - which is one of their reasons for excluding it according to them*. they released the the x70 which is a touch screen model since year but its not a dial operated device. (personally I can think of the touch screen being conflicting as imagine setting the shutter speed dial to let's say 1\125 and having the ability to use a touchscreen to do the same and I set the touchscreen to 1\250.. which would take priority? what I set on the touchscreen or what is set on the dial? also the lens apertures.. most of the lenses have manual mechanically controlled apertures - I can still only change my aperture by physically adjusting it- the only way the camera can take control of the aperture is if it has been set to "A" which at that point u lose manual control so the touchscreen could not set it either... ISO dial would be the same concern*.. i am not saying its impossible but just my view but then again they could use it for focusing, menu navigation and playback)
@theSUBVERSIVE
@theSUBVERSIVE 8 жыл бұрын
iforgotmyusername0 I've aware of all of that. But most OIS lenses if not all, they are zoom lenses and it does not include the 16-55mm f/2.8, the best candidate for go to video lens. None the of bright primes have OIS, for 35mm and beyond, it would be nice to have OIS or any sort of IS. I think IBIS is possible, even more if you consider that 4K video in the X-T2 already have some extra crop in it, so vignetting is not an issue for 4K and the major purpose of a IBIS would be for video. Fuji says it compromises IQ but since 4K already uses 1.75x crop, it doesn't compromise its quality. So it's very doable and then still photographers have the option to use it knowing there might be vignetting or crop. Touchscreen conflicting with dials and buttons is very easy to solve, let the user set how he wants, done. Moreover, touchscreen wouldn't be for changing settings, aperture, etc. that doesn't add to the camera, but for focusing, even more in video, it adds a lot. Touch focus and drag focus would be huge for video, even more if you can set the speed for changing focus to be more cinematic and so on and so forth. I'm being very reasonable as why I think Fuji should improve those if they are serious about video. Sure, Fuji won't be able to address that now, but they are important points for the future when it comes to supporting video.

While I am a Fuji user I am not a fanboy, but nobody will believe that in a moment. I appreciate that TheCameraStore's videos don't look like ads. In fact, it's why they make the only video channel involving Fuji's help that I've watched (other than Fuji's own channels). However, I feel like they went out of their way to not be biased, the point of being unnecessarily down on it. I feel like AF better than the A6300 (when dialed in) and not overheating when the A6300 can't cut it should be big deals, and make it beat it, not simply be a good contender against it.

If this is true, and I have no reason to believe it isn't, it beggars belief why Sony doesn't simply program such a procedure into their cameras under a menu button called 'Reset for high-temperature video' or something that activates when a fast card is installed. It may sound clunky in PR, but they'd curtail frustration in users.

Yes Fuji's jpegs are the best. But if you shoot raw the A6300 and X-T2 are the same, except the A6300 shoots at iso 100 and the Fuji at iso 200.
@Wu1ff1
@Wu1ff1 8 жыл бұрын
+Bomber not the same. different cfa and compression. You can shoot ISO100 raws with the fuji too
@DGBomber
@DGBomber 8 жыл бұрын
I had various Fujis, ISO100 on the fuji is a boosted mode, and as such it has a loss in quality and should be used only when you want less light, not for the dynamic range. But yes, the raw are not the same, fuji applies a lot more of noise-correction even in raws, but the end result is the pretty much the same. They basically have the same sensor with a different pixel layout that originally was used to avoid moiré; without an AA filter, but today moiré; isn't that big of an issue anymore. Anyway, the X-T2 and the A6300 are the best APSC mirrorless right now and I'm amazed how much Fuji improved on the AF since the X-E1.

And double the price :) Overheating is an issue, but for most, not worth $1000 more to solve, especially with a SmallRig cage solving that quite a bit. Also only an issue if you shoot 4k for more than 15 minutes, something the Fuji can't even do w/o the grip... And if you don't mind paying more then just go for an A7SII..
@IFrancyISantosI

i had overheating issues shooting full hd and even photographing in warm weather. I would pay three times the price for something that works compared to something that just doesnt work. and now with 2 bad sony units with the same issues i wont pay to that brand again. i never had similar issues with canon or fuji. so buying more for the a7s2 is no option because i just dont want to trust their products anymore.Nicolas Gomez

Hey guys great review, fair unbiased as we have come to expect. Footage looked amazing and so nice to hear Jordan actually having something to talk about on a Fuji camera :) Provia looks stunning and way better than I can grade (not hard). Chris one thing thats probably worth mentioning in Fuji (and other manufacturers camera reviews where appropriate) is that while the screen does not rotate for selfies of Vlogging etc there is a very good in fact even more optimal workaround. When I want to record myself I use the Fuji app. It turns my tablet into a small monitor that I can have near me and monitor the footage being recorded. It also has the benefit of allowing me to change camera settings remotely and start and stop recording remotely and touch AF using the tablets touch screen. I think this functionality is worth mentioning as it addresses a perceived shortfall mentioned in your review and probably in other brands who have smartphone apps reviews ie Panasonic.

Colour me impressed. I been thinking about migrating to mirrorless and away from DSLRs (I've been a Canon shooter since the 70s). My biggest hesitation from making that move was the AF issues with most Mirrorless rigs, my other issue in lens selection. I have huge arsenal of Canon glass (almost solely 'L' glass), this is one area that concerns me. That said, my migration into mirrorless will be methodical, not selling my Canon gear en masse anytime soon. Olympus is the other brand that I am currently looking at.

Hey Chris! Excellent "pre-prod" review of the awesome XT-2! As a Fuji X-system shooter (XT-1/X-Pro-2), I was also impressed with the image quality, particularly the sharpness, that you got with the Fuji XF 16-55. I use that lens, as well as other Fuji lenses such as the 35 f/2, 60 macro, and 90, and am always amazed that with this system, doing any sharpening in post is truly optional, especially with their jpegs. I assume you also found similar image quality in the X-Pro 2, since they use the same sensor and engine.I look forward to your continued reviews of the Fujifilm X-System. Thanks again!

Well I'm enjoying my X-Pro2 a lot, same picture quality, great AF for street, low-light gig, dance and portrait. I cannot speak as to sports. But obviously if you want 4k video and the tilt screen, well, the XT2 is the only Fuji game in town. It's funny, I'm left eye dominant so the rangefinder format technically does nothing for me, but all the same I just love their X-Pro's far more than their X-T's.

Here I am years later, having a T-2 for about 4 months now. What I would have liked to know with this is what your sharpness and contrast settings were. I resist moving sharpness above zero on the T-2. And I wonder about how dropping sharpness below zero....well, maybe some of us just want to see what the lens can do, not the software.

Watching old videos ... the X-T1 was praised in its TCST field test for autofocusing. The X-T2 is significantly better. Looking forward to the X-T4 video, where its revealed how much better autofocusing is compared to the X-T3. It's been this way for decades, ever since autofocus was introduced. Everything's pretty great until there's a new model.

Great review as usual. Thank you. It looks like a gorgeous camera that makes beautiful images but with the grip it is bigger and heavier than I want to carry.

Wow NYC multiple times in a year - you guys are getting big time! Great preview of a sweet camera. Chris you should do an art book of your puddle shots. There are weirder photo books out there...

Oh, I think that the 100fps refresh rate for the EVF is only available with the booster and in that part of the review it was without the grip, so it would be the usual 60fps.

Seeing Billy pop up did make me laugh quite a bit and the reaction. But I admit, if I wasn't so invested in Sony gear and glass I might have considered the Fuji X-T2, It's amazing.

Great review guys, as usual. I gotta say this though, because it was quite funny: I was watching the video again for the 3rd time to catch up on some details I missed, and because of that I sped up the playback on my Google Chrome browser. Absolutely hilarious, you gotta try it. 1.5x makes you sound like you've had too much of the white stuff, and 0.75 sounds like you've had a keg (or two) of beer. I know, not related to photography but hey, you gotta have fun sometimes, heh? Honestly, try it for some laughs.

Hey guys. Is it possible to adjust shadows and highlights when shooting video, like when you're shooting stills? I find Fujifilm's shadow settings very useful when shooting stills. What Fujifilm is doing with the colours when brightening the shadows is beautiful. And judging by these videos, I'd find it even more useful for video. Aren't the black levels and shadows waaay too dark? I get this digital video feel, instead of a nice dynamic range film feel. Would be very thankful if you could shed a little light on this. Thanks.

+Wu1ff1 great! I hope this will be demonstrated somewhere a little more in depth. If the colours and gamma can be made film like right out of the camera, it's gonna be sweet! Heck, the camera is probably powerful enough to do custom LUT's, should Fuji want to go down that line.
