I’ve been using the XF10 for several years. The Ricoh GR is the only real equivalent in terms of size and performance. It’s a powerful little camera and for street photography the XF10 attracts no more attention than a smartphone but has a far larger sensor. It’s old, slow and quirky, but it’s with me everywhere I go and i get great results from it. If your expectations are too high, you’ll probably be disappointed. It’s replacement, for me, will be the X100V which is bigger, better and we’ll over three times more expensive. For now, the XF10 will continue to be my daily user.

I bought one several years ago for £350 brand new on Amazon. I note that it’s going for a lot more than that now secondhand. I won’t be selling it though, even though I have a Sony RX100 VII and several other high end Fuji cameras, including the X100V. Each time I use this little camera I’m amazed by the quality of the images, and apart from the slight inconvenience of a slow AF it’s a joy to use and carry. Thanks for the video 👍

I came here to correct you re the touchscreen, but I see you've already done that below. The XF10 is superb imo, the colours are great, and tho its the Bayer sensor I just dial in an XTrans recipe, then play about with the WB to get a decent approximation of what its meant to look like. Usually works a treat. I have the XT30 and the Kodachrome 64 images out of the XF10 are p similar to what the XT30 produces. Have no idea why Fuji discontinued this line. Sales must have been the pits, as imo the XF10 still takes way better photos than a smartphone and is way more comfortable to use. Only thing I don't like about it is the detachable lens hood, would have been great if it had the inbuilt cover that slides open when you switch the camera on that the Ricoh GRs and Sony RX100s have. Great video as usual!

I am so glad that you finally got a chance to review this camera. I have owned this camera for about two years now, and I have enjoyed it immensely. You do have to navigate your way through the menus with the joystick, but there are numerous touch functions available within the camera. It does have both a touch shutter and a touch. focus function. There are slide function.s available with the scammer. also. If you have not had the chance to do so, yet, you may want to take a look at the Fuji guys. Top function video which discusses the camera and its functions. I think you might enjoy it. 😊

I own a XF10 as well, it takes beautiful pictures. compared to my other cameras the autofocus is a bit slow, but still very usable for me. I don't use it for fast action. The focallength is very useable for a city trip or a naturewalk. I actually like the snapshot mode, but just like you said, on a sunny day. But it does have a touchscreen, perhaps yours is broken or deactivated. You can select a focuspoint, or you can select a focuspoint and it takes a photo immediately. I also has some functionmodes by swiping, like for flash, metering etc.

It's pity that there isn't a m43 camera this small and thin. Then we can enjoy faster AF. I'm aware of GM1/GM5 but with a lens it's thicker. The LX100 II is also considerably bigger.

I wanted the smallest APS-C for an everyday camera... I think the smaller ones in history are the Fujifilm XF10 and the X70, I finally decided to get the X70 because of the flip-up screen and because a little cooler/hipster/retro look 😅😎... Recommendations/Ideas 💡: Two option I'm looking for is a zoom travel camera... My choices are the Sony F828, because of its zoom range and CCD sensor (vintage colors and soft images) and the Sony DSC-R1 also impressive zoom range, a little bulky but at least is all in "one piece" (no lens interchange) and APS-C sensor... You can test them and sell them afterwards at a very good price... 😜

I have this camera and yea it is not perfect but that makes it a great value. It is 70-80% of Ricoh GR at less than half the price. First off-- I have truly enjoyed the whole tiny camera series and I really think it will help your viewers get out more and enjoy simple fun shooting. I, for one, got my Olympus E-pl7 out of the camera closet and have been using for the first time in YEARS! I think I would be less likely to go so far afield from my MFT base though as something like this Fuji. I understand there are very usable compacts like this that yield good results,,,but I sort of cling to a few of my favorite lenses,, The Pana-Leica 15mm 1.7 as a for instance. I bought both the Olympus and the Panny 14-42 power zooms to test out on the e-PL7 and my GM-1 ,,and both are good...but not the 15 1.7 good.. Plus ,,after all my investment in MFT,, I have to ask how much benefit does adding another system/brand bring..? I wouldn't blame anybody for jumping around...find what works best by all means!..Just my thoughts,, your mileage may vary,,yadda yadda. BTW--adding a VF-4 viewfinder to the Olympus e-PL series is a game changer. -Keep shooting Emily--We'll be watching!

I picked up both colour variants in used like new condition in Thailand where I live for the equivalent of GBP 384 total. Sold the tan/champagne version in your video to MPB UK in the summer for GBP 385 and kept the black one which now effectively cost me nothing. As a retired publicity shooter I'm so done with large cameras. Now I use and carry two Fujifilm cameras. The X100VI and an IR converted XF10. I can carry both in a fanny pack and I no longer need a tripod to take IR photos. It's a cute little piece of kit that is both fun to use and produces wonderful pieces. And I used my OG X100 for a couple of publicity shots too.

I also bought this camera half a year ago for 350€ on Ebay in Germany. I was super impressed with its image quality, which I needed quite some time to convince myself to sell it again. Reasons were: no zoom, no viewfinder, no tiltable display too big. I instead chose to buy an old xe1 and pair it with an ttartisans 27mm 2.8 and a Sony rx100 IV. The rx100IV only cost me 250€ and is perfect for hiking. At base iso the image quality was almost as good as the fuji xf10 and my a6400. At the same time it does have a viewfinde, tiltable display and zoom, 4k video and the nd filter I really dont want to miss in a compact camera. The xe1 is also a great camera for my streetphotography needs. The images look really good and have that film like touch sooc without any filmemulations, which I really like - oh and the sutttersound is straight up addicting.

It's the gold one and yes it's loads sexier than the black one!

I used to use the X70 until about last year when it died. I moved to the GRIII and oh my goodness is the Ricoh just so much better in every single way, EXCEPT: I miss the flip up screen 😢. Ricoh is playing a different game in terms of intelligent UX and usability design nuances. If you're in the market, I'd always pick the GRIII knowing both. As a big jpeg recipe builder: You can make recipes on either, the Ricoh is actually more in-depth in terms of jpeg customisation. Not as much as Canon or Sony, but probably about twice as much as Fujifilm. Fujifilm has a bit more variety in terms of profiles, though not all are great imo.

Yay! I am so glad you made it over to my camp - Fujifilm! I have so many to recommend but based on how I see your photography habits to be, you may want to pick up an older x-e2 with a nice ios lens (since no stabe in the body). I personally own that and it's my EDC. On holiday, I bring along the x-t30ii which is a superb, more advanced x-trans sensor, tiny and cute! It has an on-board flash and the manual controls. I I have had my hands on almost every Fuji camera apart from the XF-10 (but I almost bought it!) I have to have a viewfinder. Another small Fuji camera that might be interesting for you is the x-70. It's the most similar to the XF-10. However, those older point and shoot cameras are known for slow AF. If you can find the x-t30 ii or if you're willing to go larger and pick up the x-pro 2, you've got a good bargain in fantastic autofocus, small camera in APS-C format! As an aside, I use my x-e2 with jpg film recipes but I only shoot raw on my other x cameras, e.g. x-t4, xh2s.
@Itchybiscuit
@Itchybiscuit Жыл бұрын
My Fuji is the X-E3. I use it exclusively with vintage lenses. Those lenses combined with the X-Trans III cmos sensor make it ideal for that purpose. I always shoot in RAW. My 'pocketable' camera is very different. It's the Sigma DP2. It's slow. It's VERY slow. However, the Foveon sensor more than makes up for that handicap. I've been mangling photons since 1981 when I began my journey with a Russian Fed 3 rangefinder sporting a Jupiter 8 lens. The reason I'm telling you this is, in all that time I have never once been in a situation where I had to whip out my camera and quickly take a shot of something remarkable. In my opinion, that's simply marketing hype. (fast start-up, fast focus, etc.) Other opinions are available. Thanks for your informative and funny review. 🙂

I have had X70's almost since they were launched in 2016. It is now old and tatty, cracked rear screen, etc. but she still delivers 100% perfect photos. I do not use Fuji recipe's I'd rather have a RAW image to play with in post. Flip screen & hotshoe, I do use both extensively mean I'll never change it for the XF10 even tough it has more pixels. I have tried the Ricoh GRIII and found it's controls confusing compared to the Fuji, however the hit rate from the Ricoh was almost 100% with street work. The X70 is a great little camera IF you can find one that is not over priced, demand is very high with many going for more than cost when new.

I ended up with MFT because my Fujifilm X-T20 died on me. I hasten to add that it was all my fault. I use my camera everyday, and walk a lot, often ten kilometres a day, occasionally more. I live in a humid place and we sweat buckets. I had to replace the monitor screen twice because of moisture damage. Dropping it off my desk didn't help so now it's a goner. I bought a Panasonic G95, primarily because of the cost, and secondly because it is weather resistant. I have also looked after it, never letting it get too wet and would you believe it, the monitor failed this week, one week short of warranty. Of course the online store I bought it from has disappeared. Image wise, I wish I had spent the extra money and bought a more modern Fuji, I find the colours far more to my liking. This is something that has stuck with me since my days of buying rolls of Fujifilm for whatever camera i had at the time. Oh for a lottery win!

Should be better than X100s, it uses the XT1/2/3 battery which is bigger.

Another good camera is the Tg5. The Tg6 is mostly the same and the new tg7 isn't much of a change. Waterproof, great macro, video is great. It's easy to use especially in London. You could find one for $300. I've got both and they take fantastic pics.

I started going down the Fuji rabit hole when I purchased a used A 2, loved it, then got an X-E3, then found an X-M1 with a 27mm and been a Fuji fan since, would love an X-E5 with a full frame sensor 😊

I had the XF10......I ultimately hated it. Lol. The AF is horrendous. Great concept but very poor execution. Shame Fuji didn't correct this. With the success of the X100 series they forgot all about it and the X70.

The sunset shots in this video really went a long way to me loving the image quality from this camera... but yeah the AF is definitely a sacrifice! I so wish they'd try again with this line of cameras

I don't own this camera :) Some photographers myself included actually prefer zone focusing (or snap focusing in this case) with a manual lens for street photography, rather then relying on autofocus, and this very same feature is also one of the reasons why Ricoh GRs are so popular for the genre of street photography :) Of course it required the aperture to be stopped down but high ISO and grain/noise does not really deter in such scenarios, and shallow DOF is often not desirable. If I want to capture shallow DOF stuff I can afford time to focus slowly! Enjoyable video as always! 😀

Hello, I want to ask you as an expert, if I buy a vintage 28mm lens will it work like a normal 50mm?(56) Will there be distortions? Thx!
@MicroFourNerds
@MicroFourNerds Жыл бұрын
Hi! On micro four thirds, because the sensor is so pixel dense, it will highlight more of the flaws in older glass. You can get focal reducers/speed boosters which will help minimise it. But sometimes the "flaws" in older lenses look cool. Just expect some lack of contrast and softer edges 🙂 Edited to add: it will double the focal length yes

Are the numbers on M4/3 lenses the true focal length, or the 35mm equivalent?
@MicroFourNerds
@MicroFourNerds Жыл бұрын
On native lenses they're true to m43. So a 15mm m43 lens is really a 30mm equivalent
@32rq

@@MicroFourNerds that makes it so much clearer, thanks! So many of the discussions of the crop factor assume we're coming from full-frame, but I'm only familiar shooting with m43. I'm trying to buy something with a little more zoom than my current 42mm m43, but I was confused if that meant I should look for 50mm or 100mm for vintage lenses. Sounds like I need to look in the 100mm range.

Unfortunately this is the least loved Fujifilm camera from all the Fuji lineup. XF10 is practically the same X70 but with worst controls and the newer 24mpx sensor. All the rest - slow AF, bad lowlight AF has been kept from X70. I sold mine in mint condition to MPB Europe and got more money that I paid for it in the store so thank you MPB for getting my money out of XF10 deal.

Cool little camera but WAY overpriced ever since all the hipsters started buying Fuji and driving the prices to absurd levels. These things were sitting around for $200 a few years ago and now they are going $600+ lol. Just say no to Fuji cameras and price gouging.
@matthieuzglurg6015

The XF10 is a pretty weird one for sure. It's not exactly a premium camera, it's using a lot of plastic, doesn't have an X-Trans sensor but rather uses the very meh (when it comes to performance, not IQ) 24MP bayer sensor from the X-T100 and it overall a little bit off. It was overpriced, and it still is on the used market. My guess is that Fujifilm, after the initial HUGE success of the X100 and the X100S thought they were going to hit another home-run with the X70. Except that camera ended up being a flop : bad reviews at launch, IQ was okay but it wasn't really an improvement over other Fujifilm bodies and everyone just prefered the slightly larger X100S (which wasn't much more expensive as well). Problem being, Fujifilm probably had manufactured a lot of this very nice 18.5mm f/2.8 lens with the built in leaf shutter. Those lenses are quite expensive to make, and Fujifilm most lielt misjudged the sales of the X70 and ended up with a pile of those in stock being sitting money. My guess (it's hardly truth at this point, just speculation) is that they cobbled up the cheapest body they could make with existing components (as I said, sensor and processor straight out of the X-T100) to be able to slap that lens onto, turning sitting money into quick profit. And so the XF10 is what we ended up with. Which is a shame really. Imagine if instead of the X70 flopping, it would have been a huge marketing success. We would have had the X70S with X-Trans III sensor, and we could have the X70T or F with 40MP sensor in a body barely larger than a ricoh. Coulda' Woulda' Shoulda's
