For all those who says they would buy Fuji camera if it was full frame...well the Fujifilm GFX just came out with a firmware update and added focus bracketing and 35mm format mode for their 50 mp sensor camera. So there is your FF requirement met by Fujifilm.... so go buy the GFX camera if you want FF. If not, APSC doesn't make that much of a difference vs 35mm Full Frame. Try shooting 5x4 or 8x10 film..now that is FF.

Funny thing is that this camera has dropped lite a stone in price. Now it is actually very very competitive. You can get two (!) X-H1 WITH grip and two extra batteries for each for the price of the Sony here. That is called good value. I might buy one :)

I'm really enjoying my X-H1. I tried sony. Hated using it and the good lenses are expensive as heck. One thing that should definitely be mentioned when reviewing a camera, is the system as a whole. The lenses available and the costs as well.
@brois841
@brois841 6 жыл бұрын
isandov, if the cost of the lenses didn't matter, would you still choose to go Fuji? I'm about to buy into Fuji or Sony... leaning towards Fuji for the smaller/more portable lenses (the fact that they cost less is a huge plus, but not the deciding factor).
@xandr13
@xandr13 6 жыл бұрын
You can also go for APS-C Sony, like a6500, if portability is the priority (like it is for me).

Yes, but Sony doesn't have a great lineup of APS-C lensees compared to Fuji. If I were going A6500, I'd just spend the extra bit and go for A7 III

Going Fuji is not going for specs. Color science, highlight roll-off, skin tones, DR and ergonomics is what counts. Images look so much smoother and forgiving than those from GH5/S or Sony cameras. For the same reason 90% of big budget cinema movies are shot on a camera that can't even do real 4K - the ARRI Alexa.

Also, Fujifilm excels in build quality, after-sales support and firmware updates.
@Josh-ow4gc
@Josh-ow4gc 6 жыл бұрын
In some ways, this is true. The appeal of Fuji for me is color science. The down-side is the lens line-up. Some of those older lenses, 18 f2, 35 f.14 etc.. even if Fuji came out with a camera tomorrow with AF as good as Canon DPAF or Sony C-AF for video, some of their lenses just can't keep up.
@FauxtakuLounge
@FauxtakuLounge 6 жыл бұрын
Build quality on Fuji is okay, certainly not great, but it is better than Sony for the most part. That is true. If in the mirrorless world Fuji cameras are considered apex build, we are in for a real problem going forward.

I'm commenting because I really liked Kai's video and I think this is a good review video where people might base their decisions on. Note I'm a hobbyist, who shoots mostly street, landscape, friends & family, etc. -Having used the X-H1 for 2 weeks, I actually don't get the comments on battery life, assuming you have X-H1 + grip. assuming you don't use the grip, you have 3 batteries, which you can get around 800 shots off. For professional use, it might not be enough, for personal use, I think 1 battery in camera and 1 in pocket is good enough, at least for me. -On weight, I was a huge skeptic, having come from the X-T2 but actually I like the X-H1's handling. Larger weight but better grip and hold is a winner for me. It's a bit heavy on the XF 16-55 so you definitely need 2 hand shooting, but for anything lighter like the 16mm f1.4, it's absolutely fine. If you go for the Fujicron f2 series, it's weird, I feel like the camera is too light! -Full-frame vs apsc to me is not a big deal, except when it comes to low light. Here, if you need absolute light, try the 16mm f1.4. If that's not enough light for you, then fine. For me, it's been an absolute delight to shoot in dimly lit bars, clubs, night shooting etc. In cases with good light, I think APS-C is fine. -I actually noticed in F.acebook groups that people experience lockups, but personally I have had none in 2 weeks, shooting 3k+ stills and a bit of video. +Someone mentioned below something along the lines of 'Dont tell me about a7iii vs x-h1 body price, tell me about sony + lens vs fuji + lens'. It's true. Please consider that as the final price tag, instead of thinking of body cost only, especially for Sony, unless you want 3rd party lens. +I think we also take for granted the following 1. weather sealing (super handy to not worry about shooting in the snow, the rain or in dusty conditions) 2. a7iii doesn't come with vertical grip for portraits at same price (seriously, I didn't know it's so useful until I tried it for the first time. Then going back to shooting portrait without grip is kinda PITA) 3. fuji ecosystem (lens, software update, customer service and reply latency) + jpeg output (for hobbyist who might not need RAW) 4. ergonomics of the buttons placement 5. full manual dial (it always amazes my friends who are new to photography). I actually love the full manual mode, or the full auto + auto expo mode when passing it to other people 6. submonitor is useful, although mostly I care how many I shots I get left :P 7. AF is super fast (here, a7iii might win), although I don't understand why Kai used a 10-24 f4 for autofocus test.. The fujicron series, or even the 16mmf1.4 performs well for me. Notice I haven't actually talked about video capabilities, which I think it's good, but that being said, I think X-H1's IBIS in video is still not enough without a gimbal for general street walking. It's been a delight for stills, as I no longer notice images ruined by camera handshake like I so distinctly recall on the X-T2. Most of the out of focus ones are due to my improper focus or subject motion blur. In short, I have a feeling when we look back in late 2018, we might find that this camera is actually well specced, well thought out and deserves its price tag.

The advantage of movie silent mode is that the settings are persistent. IE you can have physical dials set for Stills ie SS of 1/250th etc and when you switch into video mode whatever your last video setting was via touch screen activates ie 1/48th sec SS speed when you are shooting 24p. This works for all settings making switching between stills and video much easier. Regarding changing settings via touch screen there is a work around. once you have hit the touchscreen to bring up the setting you can then navigate and change the settings using the physical joy stick which is much quicker. Especially as once I am set up the only setting I am normally changing is the ISO. All in all its a great addition, but if you don't like it, you can disable it and go back to using physical dials.

When you set to DR100% (no f-log then) the AF-C works very well. But, yes, there's a problem with Continuous AF in DR400% and F-Log. Then you can use AF-S and back button focusing or touchscreen focusing, nice and smooth.

I have a Fuji X-T2 & some glass for it. Whats making me stick with Fuji over the Sony A7 III is the cost of glass. The Sony body may be on parity with the X-H1 (including the battery grip the X-H1 is just under £2K) but it's the cost & weight of the glass you put on it that has put me off the A7 III. Fuji glass is good & costs a lot less than anything of parable quality for Sony.

Sweet video as most of urs, even though honestly I dont feel u had the time to totally try it so u get to totally control it and be able to make a full review. Lots of AF solutions for video recording are emerging on youtube for this cam, AF is not really my concern as much as the rolling shutter, i noticed it.. but I believe Fuji could fix this in a firmware update since they listen. On another hand, an important feature in audio is the 24bit PLUS the fact that u can set the internal mic levels SEPARATELY than an external mic which is a great feature. I dont mind the 8bit, and the IBIS is not supposed to be replacing a gimbal... Yes its a crop sensor, but not a crap sensor! Going for Fuji VS Sony would be for their color science (Eterna + all the previous filters) as well as lens options. Seriously considering this cam as my 5DMIV is heavy for the type of videos that id like to invest more time in, random street encounters.. Cheers!

I think you could have mentioned that the Fuji seems more expensive than the Sony only when you look at the body only. But a soon as you want to buy a lot of native glass the Fuji system is not only cheaper, it's also much lighter than Sony's FF-Lenses (which seem to be made of gold - in terms of price and in terms of weight).

But that's the whole point, the willingness to shell out extra hundred bucks for the sony lens is because its a fullframe lens. Canon's pro lens lineup has about the same price as the Sony's simply because they are fullframe lenses.

THANK YOU for showing how auto ISO works in video mode. I was hoping they had smoothed it out, but still clicky. As for AF issues in video mode, the AF-C mode is kinda glitchy in my experience, keeping it on AF-S and then using the touch screen to tap focus seems to work better. However I thought the XH-1 wouldn’t still have those issues. Oh well. At least it fills your hands like a nice beefy burger

This may costs about as much as the Sony A7iii, but the lenses are way cheaper. Sony wants to get you into their system with under-priced bodies, and then once you're invested they make back their money on lenses. It's like how consumer printers are cheaper but print cartridges are ridiculously expensive. The other advantages of FujiFilm lenses is the smaller size. Or, if you want even smaller, go with micro-four-thirds.

seems like those who already own fuji cameras and a few of their lenses will find a good camera to do video, even though the Sony is at a similar price range, buying the glass required to do video on the sony may not be as cost effective. Thus anyone who is looking to buy a new camera for doing video may be better off going with SONY now that they have more variety of lenses now than a year or two ago. While people who are already using the fuji film and own some of their lenses will be happy being able to upgrade to the H1 with better video recording as well. though I would like to ask if there are any way to mitigate the auto focus on the lens while recording, as far as I know going some fix wide lens with larger F stop is an option but im not sure how good that may be.

Ft1 adapter lets u use all f mount glass full af center point only and bronte works, if your a Nikon user pick up one you will love it. As long as you can get around the 1 inch sensor. I use mine for birding and wildlife since you get a 2.7 crop. I can shoot hand held with 580 mm for equivalent. Not to mention video at 1080 60 FPS This tech was brought out years ago by Nikon everyone just played catch up. Only reason it didn’t take off is because small sensor, When Nikon releases. As a Fuji fanboy, even I agree the A7III is a very tempting option for the price. I look to the XT3 to see what will likely be the King of APS-C has to offer.

One of your best vids in a long time! Reminded me of the DRev days. The only thing I liked about this camera was the top mini LCD screen next to the dials showing the settings. This is standard with DSLR’s but for some reason Sony isn’t doing it... yet...

Very cool to see Fuji in the game, they do make great cameras. I think the appeal of the A7III is just too strong for me, there is a lot to be said for full frame. Unfortunately that auto ISO stepping in video from the Fuji is a bit of a killer, I really like having the option to keep my aperture and shutter set and leave it rolling with auto ISO when in changeable light conditions, especially when I'm in front of the camera.

Seems like a lovely little camera, but personally I'd have preferred to have kept exposure compensation as a dial. The tiny waterdroplet keeping the EVF on and preventing the screen from taking over would have confused my A7II as well, while the newer series handles it a lot better. It's been one of the things that all the mirrorless system have had to learn to work around - some faster than others.

Hey Kai, can you make a review of Huawei P20 Pro? It looks like a successor of Nokia Lumia 1020! A real deal breaker. I wish to know how that works. From what I've seen jpegs out of it are rubbish, so my concern is how many features works on jpegs only. But the raws are AMAZING! I compared them to my sony a7R, they ARE ON PAIR! I've seen that you can make long exposure up to 4 seconds HAND HELD! HOW? MY GOSH! I WANT TO KNOW MORE! The era of true mobile photography STARTS NOW!

Yea, I wanna know that too. Kai, you did review of Huawei P10, didn't you? First of all; are long exposure shots saved in RAW, if so, are those 40MP or 10MP? Google pixel does not save hdr+ files in RAW, neither iPhone or Samsung, which is a bummer. If this phone does, then definitely, it's a good candidate to have it in a pocket when can't bring big guns with you. Also I have Nokia 1020, which does not have hdr, but has incredible OIS and I trained myself to take shots up to 1 second handheld and I always take RAW from it. If P20 Pro can do that for me then it's a no brainer, I would get it and replace my aging toy.

Come on, let's not get carried away. Fuji said that the couldn't put IBIS in a X-T2 size body. That's the reason the X-H1 is a little bigger and as a result they could make the ergonomics so much better.

The A7 iii is 2000+ aud here, the X-h1 have been heavily discounted, a used one with 18-55 mm lens for 1450 aud, I think I'll go Fuji even though I'm tempted by full frame...

This really sounds like one of those youtube scam comments but this isn't. The company Gnarbox is hosting "The Ultimate Camera Giveaway" this year with brands such as DJI and Fujifilm and other well known companies. The reason I am sharing this with you is because if you enter using my link we both recieve 100 entires on the spot just for using the "shared link" but it only works if you have completed one of the actions. Its seriously the biggest giveaway I have seen and it tops around $10,000 in total. You can find the link here: gleam.io/lhV2N-fKFFpa?l=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.gnarbox.com%2Fpages%2Fgiveaway. Best of luck to you :)
