UPDATE- thanks to the brilliant people in the comments there is a solution to the setting issue I spoke about when switching from photo to video. In video mode you can set your setting and then go into the menu and turn “movie silent control” on, to lock those setting. Then when you switch to photo you can independently adjust setting without effecting video setting. Hope that make sense. 🙏

Yeah, and he's not the only one. It's a pretty well sorted out machine. Basically.. the only thing keeping me from buying this camera is the battery .. I might wait for Nikon's 1st attempt at a FF mirrorless. As for Evan...well..congrats dude!..the vlog is in a pretty solid state. Keep them coming..and don't worry about getting too geeky..or paying 'too' much attention to gear _ as I see it..you're pretty able to maintain your cool .. and be focus on shooting . I reckon that..if you buy a new camera....hell...it's pretty much justified to make a few videos and posts about gear..and your experience with it. Plus, the market is in great termoil, currently. New gear and specially mirrorless being the constant buzzword. Keep all kinds of videos coming.. And keep pushing. You're growing. I like your wide shots a lot. And your editing too, btw !

Evan Ranft it seems this camera has been excelling your appetite for shooting..and you're getting a kick out of it! ;) That's what new gear is all about, right ? I still think you are being too soft on the battery review ..though. I really like Fujifilm...but battery life is not great, at all.

Great video. In my first full week using the XH-1 and my experience is similar to yours. The H is for high performance and I shoot mostly stills and the autofocus works great on my very active grandchildren. I also find myself taking more video. I like Eterna for video and Classic Chrome for most of my photography. You other tips for this camera have been very helpful. Thanks!

For the video switch problem (like the shutter speed changing you mentioned), this can be fixed by turning on Movie Silent Control. What it does is allow you to configure movie recording settings on-screen and the camera will ignore the dial buttons (as they're now independently controlled). So you basically only use the dials for photos and the on-screen controls for video. It means all you have to do is switch from photo to video and that's it you're set! Hope this helps :)

Evan, my understanding is that you can completely configure the video mode settings and photo mode camera settings (ISO, aperture, shutter speed, etc) to be independent and "remembered" (i.e., "sticky") from switching back and forth between modes.

Yeh, Evan. I don't own a X-H1 (yet!) but I've seen loads of videos on it, and a few of them mention this issue_ I'm sure you can keep separate settings for video&stills. It's actually been one of the pros of the camera. Have you explored the silent controls, in video mode? (controlling settings with the touch screen).
@watchingpollux
@watchingpollux 6 жыл бұрын
Stephen Scharf I have no Fuji, but I thought the idea is to use the shutter dial on top. What exactly do you and Evan mean by “remembering” the settings? Wouldn’t this just mean to turn the dial?
@stephenscharf6293
@stephenscharf6293 6 жыл бұрын
Hi Watchingpollux. I would say that for stills photography, many, many photographers, myself included, very much like the analog dials and control system of the Fuji X camera line. However, as Fuji has been branching out to more and more professionally-oriented models, they are allowing the camera's key settings to be programmable and configurable with the command dials. There is a lot of flexibility in both the MF GFX50S and now the X-H1 for doing this. Regarding the ability to set up the stills photography vs. videography controls, you can set up the camera so that the videography settings are configured via the LCD touchscreen, and the still controls are controlled by the physical knobs. All you have to do to move betweens these two different setting modes is to flip the Drive switch to Video or Stills. Each is remembered separately and are "sticky"; i.e., they don't change until you change them, even if you turn the camera off.

Could not be more happy. “A camera is just a tool” and similar statements I have heard many time, but I think you will experience the strange x-factor that adds mojo/vintage feel and lots of inspiration. Same with instruments - a guitar is not just a tool, the right one inspire, the “wrong” just create sounds :-)

Haven't had lock-ups on my X-H1 until i used the xf 80mm macro.. it started locking up with that lens and only that one every 5minutes.. I tought about sending thz 80mm macro back.. but it works great on my X-T2 so i'll keep it with that camera. I hope fuji solves the locking up issues very fast. You lose a lot of time undialing the grip and removing the camera battery.. screwing the grip back on.. But i love the X-H1 a lot. It feels perfect in my hands. Great video!

I just ordered this camera today from Adorama and they had a deal for the camera, the battery grip and a GorillaPod tripod for $1,299. When I saw that price I just had to get it. I am an X Pro2 shooter and love that camera, although I wish I could assign ISO to the front command dial on that camera, but that may come in a future firmware update for the X Pro2. Like I said I love my X Pro2 but might consider selling it if I get the X-H1 and feel I'm not using the other one because the X-H1 does everything better. Thank you for your videos Evan, they have been a real inspiration to me in photography.

Hey Evan, good video man! I just wanted to comment on the freezing issue. I was using the X-H1 along side my X-T2 and I use nothing but approved Sandisk cards. Maybe this seems stupid to some people, but I frequently share cards between cameras. Anytime I shared a card between the T2 and H1, one of the cameras would freeze and I'd have to drop the battery. If I formatted the card immediately inside the camera I intended to use the card in, it would be fine. But if there was a file of any kind on that card from the other camera, it would freeze it up.. I wouldn't think this would be a serious issue, as both use the same RAF file... I have always shared cards between cameras, especially when they are of the same brand i.e., Canon, Sony, Fuji, etc... Other than that, I never had any freezing issues.

Hey Evan, Joe Allam made a video about the X-H1 and mentioned how much he loves that it holds independent settings between photo and video, precisely because of the shutter speed, I was wondering maybe there's been a firmware update you missed or something? Shutter sound is not nerdy, you hear it at each and every frame you take, so it is an everyday thing, and the X-H1 is the nicest sounding shutter I ever had in a camera. An "important little" thing that shows their attention to detail. I had the freeze - like a few others I have read about - exclusively in AF-C which suggests to me that the firmware is buggy in this department. I expect Fuji to fix it hopefully soon, like that it is not a ready programmed firmware, in my opinion. Also should it work with any quality SD card, unacceptable to only accept a small choice of premium priced cards. I never had a camera that only worked with a few chose cards.

Evan I can't agree more, I've was freaked out initially about the camera's autofocus system that has been criticised so badly. I used it for 12 days exactly this month. There were a lot of expos in India recently and I was able to field test it. I loved it. It's not as fast as a Canon 5D MK4 but it's not "laggy". It's not a deal breaker, it tends to search, but this is of negligible magnitude. What I like:- Ergonomics (it suits my hand) Evf Color science (I find it better than my Canon or sony) The Fuji glasses. Cons :- 1.Battery is bummer. The pack costs me $350-400 in India. 2. It's audacious from Fuji to ignore a mic for a video camera. 3. Fuji glasses are awesome, but very, very expensive. Atleast where in India. 4. Zhiyun doesn't work with Fuji cameras. Fuji reps from India says the ones getting shipped from June will not have the freezing issues (I did not face any though). They did not respond to the "why" clearly. I'm planning to buy this by November (huge deals will on cards during the festive season) I'm adding more variety to my existing collection of monotonous Canon, which I love it btw. They better improve they're mirrorless game. Cheers bud.

I LOVE my X-H1. The only thing that bugs me is that if you are shooting in F-LOG you can't adjust ISO - it's locked at 800. I asked them about it at NAB and they told me that was a decision they made to roll out since the dynamic range was so good. As a workaround, I shoot Eterna and desaturate it, drop the shadows and sharpness - it's basically a LOG file at that point.

What three prime lens would you recommend to have from 15mm to 100mm? I´m thinking to buy 16mm F1.4 WR for landscapes, closed interiors and arquitecture; 35mm F2 WR for street use and some open portrait and 90mm F2 WR for close portrait or sports.

I like the looks of this camera but having the x-t2 already I think I’m gonna wait for the 3 since I’m sure they will add ibis to it, but damn, I got big hands and I need that grip

MotoMustard it’s looking more and more like the X-T3 will not have IBIS. That will be reserved for the X-H1 line.

The freeze is i think a software issue. I did experience it on my X-T100, which came out at the same time and probably shares a lot of software routines with X-H1

really considering selling my full frame nikon d610 kit to go to a fuji xt2 kit. Would i be giving up a lot in low light performance and high iso by going to fuji?

Don't know this camera, but on the X-T2, there simply no way around buying the grip for video, and the headphone jack is the smaller reason for this. BATTERY LIFE!

Zed PromedIa said in his livestream that he can not recommend the x-h1 for video. Some of the reasons were abysmal battery life, choppy transitions in auto ISO and terrible autofocus.

Thank you for the video. one tip: perhaps it is best not to use a wide angle lens so close for your video. It kinda makes your arms quite big in relation to the rest of your body. Just my 2 cents though

Fuji is changing the world of photography and videography. It's so well thought out in every way. A camera for true creators, it inspires and makes you work out of the box. *:58 The X T3 video and photo settings are independent of each other ans in the X T4. Fuji firmware updates is second to none. 6:34 bet you corrected the issues you have with this camera via updates. The X T 3 and X T4 bring even a bigger challenge for Nikon, Canon and others to keep up.
