I've been trying to decide between the X-S10 & the X-T4 and really liked how you focused on actually using this camera & why you liked it. You gave me a lot of good info to think about. I already have the Panasonic G95 with 5x lens, yet I seriously thinking of selling it & moving to Fuji.

I also have a Nikon D7100 and am looking around ... I have decided to move away from Nikon because of their poor support (DX lenses) for the APS-C format. Fujifilm has a much wider selection of APS-C format lenses.

Like both of you, I have the Nikon D7100 and looking to mirrorless, Fuji or not. For my purposes, I love my now old Nikon but I don’t shoot sports and the nature I shoot doesn’t involve fast moving creatures. I agree Nikon’s support of DX lenses isn’t great but I can make do with them and really, 4-5 lenses is the most I’ll ever need. I’d probably like a D7500. However, at age 61 with neck and shoulders not what they use to be, going small (mirrorless) is very appealing and Fuji has terrific lenses.

@@danc3693 Funny, I'm the exact same age as you (61) ... I also still love my D7100 but like you I'm looking for something smaller and lighter for travel. Went to Europe a few times in the last few years and wished I had a lighter camera.

I like how you put this camera into the perspective it fits in. It is not a camera which competes with the top-tier cameras, and yet sadly, many people will expect it to be. But it has great features, is easily affordable by a great many people and will take great pictures. My only regret was not waiting a few months longer for it as I bought an X-T30, but that is a great camera as well.
@danc3693

Well said. It is an APS-C format which doesn’t seem to be quite the “thing” it use to be. As a Nikon D7100 who is happy with his camera EXCEPT really wants/needs the size and weight of mirrorless, this Fuji looks nice and at a competitive price point. My biggest issue with Fuji is being limited to only Fuji lenses and their price point.

Thank you for another very informative & well made video. It is always enjoyable watching your productions. My question is: between the XT4 (or XT3 if you haven’t tried the 4) and the XS10, which you would prefer taking with you for non-professional outings? The XS10 seems capable enough for most situations. Would weather sealing be an important enough feature to choose the XT4?

Outstanding honest review, thanks! This camera may tip the scales in favor of Fuji for me. Having sold all my Nikon glass to weather the mirrorless wars, deciding b/w Fuji and Sony has been the battle... I wish Fuji would open their API for 3rd party lenses. A used A7RIII and the Tammy 28-200 will probably win out, but the S-10 is very tempting along many lines... just the articulating screen alone is a pretty significant form factor advantage. Thanks again!

I want a deeper grip and occasionally something that isn't so far provided by Fuji's classic control scheme: custom modes. Usually I shoot leisurely and deliberately and I appreciate Fuji's classic controls but when I'm shooting something that needs quick reaction times I welcome the option to have quickly selectable custom modes :)

Well done review after watching several today! Appreciated your content and style.....I have Fuji's XH1 and XT2, with most use with the XH1, preferring the bigger grip and IBIS. Might sell the XT2 in the days ahead and shift to X-S10 as a second smaller body with updated specs. The shift in controls is no big deal to me. BTW, had the XT30 but sold because felt too small re: grip for me.

To: SnapChick and Hugh - Thanks to both of you for your recent videos on this camera. I am an ancient old SLR/DSLR geezer who is only now in the process of seriously shopping for my first mirrorless camera as a travel alternative to my wonderful, but all-too-heavy Nikon D850. Being a mostly Nikon guy (but, not a fanboy), I had been just trying to decide between the Z6 and new little Z5. But, the result of your two videos is that I will give a serious look at the X-S10. I have no idea what motivated Fuji, but for me, the new PASM dial approach does make this camera more appealing. Not only is it more familiar, coming from the Nikons, but to me it just seems more practical. I mean the physical shutter speed dial is a nice homage to the past - and indeed the cameras I grew up with - but to heck with that when you are trying to get the exact shot you want as quickly as you can. I can’t speak for others, but for me the PASM with two control dials is just more facile and faster. The biggest question I have to answer for myself is whether I want to back off from full frame to crop for my travel photos. Methinks I need to try this one out and compare images from it and one of my Nikon FF’s. For, as I told Hugh over the weekend: In the end, the love you take is equal to the images you make. :-) All the best. Thanks again. JW

@@johnwheat1542 - I'm certain you will be disappointed John if you compare images from the X-S10 with your Nikon. Stick with full frame, Z6ii or Z7ii or wait for the followup to the Z50 if you want compact, due end of this year.
@johnwheat1542
@johnwheat1542 3 жыл бұрын
@@davidhenderson5051 David, Thanks. I have no doubt you are right about that. I was already thinking that while the X-S10 looks very appealing on size, shooting experience and ergonomics, I would likely be disappointed in the images. I do a lot of landscape work where dynamic range and resolution are important. I am still in the market for a smaller, lighter travel set up to take when the D850 and its glass are just too heavy. I may get the Z5 & Z 24-200mm for that. But, I’m still keeping the D850. The images are just too gorgeous - as you indicated. I think that camera has probably spoiled me on IQ. Again, thanks for the comment and “talking me back into reality.” :-) Best, John

Fuji’s middle line products offers the best value. If I planned to buy this camera., I would wait 9 months when the used market price drops to around $700 and buy a lightly used one in excellent condition. Of course, if you are in a hurry to try something new or need a new camera immediately, then it’s a different story.
@bradl2636

Because Fuji totally needs another potpourri camera name. Thanks for the video. PASM not a deal breaker for me. I prefer a larger less noisy sensor and high dynamic range. Correctly exposing highlights (even slightly under exposing) in low light with enough detail left to pull from shadows is vital to me and in this regard Sony wins when factoring in AF performance and range of glass options.

Appreciate this review. Recently switched from a Canon DSLR to the X-T200 and...I'm not really happy with it. I don't feel I have the control I want and while the compactness is nice it just doesn't FEEL like I want a camera to feel. This makes me want to consider selling the X-T200 and buying this instead. I'm equally interested in photo and video but the XT-4 is just too far out of my price range (and skill range, honestly) for now so this might be a good middle ground. I'm still grumbling about leaving DSLRs behind but...I travel a lot so I think I need to accept mirrorless as the way forward.

I have had my eye on Fuji cameras for a while, but have not been able to end up with an X-T3/X-T4 yet. I am wanting to make videos as well as photography, and my current camera doesn't have an input for an external mic... I am thinking that this camera, with the 18-55 would be a perfect way into the Fuji X system... not to mention Sigma/Tamron don't seem to be making K-mount lenses much anymore, and the Pentax 70-200/2.8 is a bit more pricey ...lol. Do you think the kit lens would be good for video, general photos and snapshots, and also make at least decent portraits until I can get something with a wider aperture? I'd love the 50-140/2.8, and possibly a teleconverter for it eventually. First would likely be the 56mm, then the longer zoom, then the fast 16mm and 35mm primes... do you think amy of the above would work for macro-ish closeups of painted miniatures...? They're fairly detailed little gaming figures in the ramge of 1 to 2 inches tall... Lastly, for outings like camping, or day trips, or sports events that are all day/weekend, would you suggest getting a couple extra batteries and a separate charger? Can't fathom for a $1400 camera/lens kit that they make you buy the charger separately... Thanks for the video, hope to check out more of your channel soon...

With my current camera with its PASM dial, I always get confused for which dial does what in each mode (aperture vs shutter speed, changes depending on the mode you're in) and the direction in which to turn the dial still confuses me from time to time. Then on top of that, the dial on the back used for ISO also doubles for setting shutterspeed (in addition to the top dial for shutterspeed) further confusing the controls I think that I'll like the more traditional control scheme that Fujifilm has on its XT-series cameras better, as you hopefully get used to just knowing which dial does what! (Well, except when you put it in the 'C' position of course that turns control back to one of the flexible command dials for the positions that they couldn't print on the main dial... There goes your muscle memory)

How is it when pairing with manual lens? Compare to the traditional XT3/4 dial and dpad style.

I am thinking that Fuji has made another great choice when it comes to their cameras. I have watched a number of videos of the X-s 10 and noticed a few reviewers have complained about the shutter release button having a lot of travel before pre focus and release. Did you find this with your sample?

If it's a problem, you could always use back button focus instead.

I'm looking for a good moto-vlogging camera and was wondering if you can turn this on and use it with the LCD folded in on itself, protected still. Do you know? Thanks for the great video.

Well, thanks for the vid. I'll gladly sell my 1328gr. X-H1 16-55 f2.8 "travel" combo for this X-S10 16-80 f4 905gr combo! I'll win almost 400gr, plus it's waaaay smaller plus it has the very latest software! Only thing I'll miss I suppose is the X-H1 superior viewfinder.

Hi! Nice work! Im new to your channel and its refreshing to see a woman doing camera reviews. Im trying to decide between the Fuji Xt4 and Sony A73. I have binged a few of your videos allready! Thanks and keep up the great work! BTW...is the Fuji XT4 fast enough to shoot sports? I mean the autofocus and maybe the 55- 210 lense? I cant afford the 50 -140 2.8. Thanks

Hi Thanks for the review, very helpful. I’m going to purchase the X S10 and I need a lense recommendation. I’m new to photography and I’ll be focusing Mainly in outdoor and wildlife. For a first good all around lense should I go with one of the kit lenses or something else ? Thanks

After watching your review of the Nikon Z50 I was going to buy that - but now its hard to make a case for it. For a little more money one gets IBIS and a alot higher resolution sensor, more video options and the film sims. Your thoughts?

It's not a "little" money if you compare price with the kit and tele lens :) Depends on if you want to add more lenses in the future. Not much Z DX glass in sight. Compact 28 and 40mm Z are coming but no wide angle or macro for DX.

@@stanleygabrel5279 I like Nikon colors better too. I feel like the z50 is a better camera than z5 and my skills don’t merit a z6... having said that not sure z50 is better than the X-S10

@@patrick.771 Saw sever al vids where photogs are showing that the Fuji lenses are sharp in the middle but soft on the edges or corners... not sure i would notice though. Still leaning towards z50 because any glass i buy - the z mount or f mount with adapter i can still use if i upgrade to a z6 in the future.

@@aaronjaffe4931 I know. Especially the Fuji zoom lenses. Nikon Z lenses should be better but you lose the F2.8 or constant F4 apperture (depending on what Fuji lens you compare it with). Christopher Frost makes the best lens reviews in my opinon. The Fuji 16-80 is a bit soft.

Did you try the camera with bigger lenses such as the 100-400mm? I wonder if the spacing works out with the grip on such a small body.
@LeighAndRaymond
@LeighAndRaymond 3 жыл бұрын
Good question! I did not use it with any Fuji lenses but I did use it with an adapter and my Nikon 200-500mm f/5.6 F mount lens. I didn't even think about spacing/ergonomics while doing it, which tells me the answer... It's good!
@mortenthorpe
@mortenthorpe 3 жыл бұрын
@@LeighAndRaymond which adapter lets you control the aperture on the 200-500? As far as I know, because I have that lens also, that lens is electronically controlled aperture, and as far as I’ve seen, there are no electrically connected adapters for Nikon F on Fuji X

Not so sure there are "no bad cameras" out there. Sony managed to suck the life out of photography for me. One thing you didn't mention was EVF quality. I'm worried it's too small or resolution is too low. For me, 3.69m dots - or whatever, is the minimum, but that's not available in this price range.
