I have owned the X - S 10 now for about 2 1/2 weeks. I cannot believe this camera I cannot believe how good it is for the size and the value and the quality it produces. I post on several pages Instagram and other places as well people were still thinking that I was shooting with my Nikon D850. If I didn’t tell them they wouldn’t have known. This is a great camera for many reasons. And I’ve only just started. The reason I bought a small camera was precisely what you said at the start you can just point and click ….It’s really good and I mean really good and if you know how to handle a Camera you can get pro standard images out of his Canberra. 15 years ago professional photographers were using 12 megapixel cameras. This is 26 it’s more than enough and in fact I don’t understand why we’re getting into this megapixel wore it is a bit crazy if you asked me. Thank you for your review of this camera as I really love it as well

Hugh I recently discovered you in my as yet ongoing search for the best entry level camera to jump into and I have to say your down to earth approach is extremely helpful in giving folks in my position some perspective. So many other presenters will pick out some "negative" (single card slot for example) and blow it out of proportion. Only you could make a 20+ minute talking head video so interesting. Keep it up!

So right! Though I do prefer focusing manual glass on the highest res OLED EVF I can get my hands on, the Fujifilm's simulated microprism or split prism are pretty nice. - The Leica CL is especially adept with M glass, as that EVF somehow punches above its weight class, and the implementation of finder magnification is lovely.

@@SkipperGeffen I use a cheaper k&f concept one and it works just fine. I have an fd to fx and and m42 to fx. Also note that some rangefinder lenses are m39 which will require another adapter ring. Great stuff as usual Hugh. I'm feeling very centered right now. Thanks for that! I've been a Fuji lurker for a long time, but for 2 things. The analogue controls for 1. Birds and grandchildren move way to fast to be futzing with dials and taking my eye away from the VF. 2nd, the analogue controls meant no Custom modes. I use the custom settings all the time on my Sony and Olympus cameras, and that was a deal breaker, but now............hmmm. (or should it be ohmmmmm. And a BTW, on one of the reviews I watched today (I think Camera Conspiracies) it was mentioned that video settings can not be saved in the custom modes. Don't quote me on that, but worth checking into.

If Migrating to the Fuji family/eco, without too much performance sacrifice this may just be the one. I think (think) Fuji has always focused on the photography vs the video until the xt4 (hybrid master).... this just cements the lineage. Cannot wait to try it with some reasonable glass. Such a great video... complete ART in a camera review... I have been wanting a Fujifilm camera for some time now. I really like the controls on the X-T4, and someday hope to have one. I am giving up on Pentax, as they just cant get things right with AF, video features, and aperture blocks that don't die...as well as it seems Tamron/Sigma are not really continuing to support the K mount.... I am looking to get into Fujifilm cameras, and I really think this X-S10 is the perfect way to get started out, for a great price. It does have a few compromises, compared to the X-T4, but for this price point it seems to very much be the best option among any current models from any maker...and they're compromises I can surely live with. Thanks for the videos....keep shining mister.

I am a photo enthusiast and after many hours of exploring full frame Sony etc. I purchased the XS10. I do not place much emphasis on video so that was not an issued compared to XS10. Weather sealing too, a nice feature but if shooting in the mist or drizzle aplastic shroud works fine. On the plus side the ergonomics with the XS10 are the best. Not having a Fuji camera before I did not have any experience with the controls of the camera. I find the controls very easy to customize for whatever scene, style or focus format desired. This camera is W A Y more than a camera for beginners. It certainly could be but if you are looking for more out of a camera you’ll love it. Either way have fun shooting.

Thanks. This video was perfectly timed for me because I had only recently come around to the belated epiphany that Tomorrow Never Knows was THE pivotal song of the Rock Era, a largely forgotten masterpiece that changed everything in popular music and still reverberates through so much of what we hear today. The X-S10 won’t do the same for photography. But, still, I bought into your vibe on it. It does all fit into my current quest to simplify, simplify, simplify. And, return to photography basics instead of pursuing the nth degree of the latest camera features. In the end, the love you take is equal to the images you make.

Say, Hugh, I just posted the following comment over on the SnapChick’s video on this camera, and since it’s addressed to you, too, and I don’t expect that you are reading replies to her, I thought I would put a copy here, too. How’s that for service!! :-) To: SnapChick and Hugh - Thanks to both of you for your recent videos on this camera. I am an ancient old SLR/DSLR geezer who is only now in the process of seriously shopping for my first mirrorless camera as a travel alternative to my wonderful, but all-too-heavy Nikon D850. Being a mostly Nikon guy (but, not a fanboy), I had been just trying to decide between the Z6 and new little Z5. But, the result of your two videos is that I will give a serious look at the X-S10. I have no idea what motivated Fuji, but for me, the new PASM dial approach does make this camera more appealing. Not only is it more familiar, coming from the Nikons, but to me it just seems more practical. I mean the physical shutter speed dial is a nice homage to the past - and indeed the cameras I grew up with - but to heck with that when you are trying to get the exact shot you want as quickly as you can. I can’t speak for others, but for me the PASM with two control dials is just more facile and faster. The biggest question I have to answer for myself is whether I want to back off from full frame to crop for my travel photos. Methinks I need to try this one out and compare images from it and one of my Nikon FF’s. For, as I told Hugh over the weekend: In the end, the love you take is equal to the images you make. :-) All the best. Thanks again. JW

Thank you for some sanity on the camera front. I try to stay away from the reviewers that pan new gear based on "specs". Being satisfied with what we have and not "needing" the latest tech is very grounding. Go out and shoot with what you've got folks and remember it's far better equipment than what many of the iconic photos of our generation were taken on.

There are two glaring omissions from this camera. 1) Weather sealing. 2) There is only one card slot, and it's only UHS-I. My Panasonic G85 has a UHS-II card slot, and that camera is four years old. Now, for video, that doesn't matter so much. But, if you're shooting bursts (and this camera can shoot 20 fps with a mechanical shutter and autofocus), you're going to be waiting for a while for the buffer to clear. Of course, they seem to be benchmarking something between the Sony a6400 and a6600.

Nice camera. As owner of XT1, XT20, XT-2 and H-X1.... I stopped using it for 1 pair of G9. I don't see big jump from 20MPs to 24/26MPs in IQ and with G9 (or EM1.2s), High-Res options are useful FOR me with landscape and cityscape when I don't want to carry Sony A7R3s. So, now with IBIS in Fuji...why don't they offer High-Res (or pixel shift) technology either? I will happy stop my G9s or EM1.2s again for Fuji. For me now, it's either M4/3 or FF. M4/3 has nice useful advance features and FF Sony are just brutally high res for even A0 prints. I will wait for FW updates from Fuji if they can add High-Res features or Live ND to see where my next gears will be. Come on Fuji, try to get M4/3 features into your IBIS cameras too!!??

Thank you so much for this video, I love your style. I'm moving from my beloved Oly em5 m2 to this camera but choosing to move from the size & convenience of mft (I was considering the PanaLumix G9...I'm still a little worried, but you ease my mind a bit. Fuji was the first to make my awesome camera with the sensor it deserves. Fortunately I'm not in TOO deep with mft glass. APSC glass costs more. Worth it though, I hope.

Hugh, thanks for the camera review. Even more importantly, thanks for the Instant Karma of bringing visibility to the classic and sometimes under-recognized Beatles track. Ooooooommmmmm.....Thanks Hugh. Loved the photographs of the people of NY. And I sincerely believe that some of them would not shout, " HAY! I'M WALKIN' HERE"! in my face if I ever visited. ;-) . If you're going for the Bond villian thing, I'd recommend a white cat or, better still, a tank of piranhas. I think you were a bit hard on The Capt., Rocket Man has its charms but we both know that his version of Common People (with Joe Jackson etc.,) is astonishing, and even better than Pulp's original. And anyway; what IS the sound of one hand clapping ? I must ask Van. All the best

Na maste, this was an amazing review. Thoroughly enjoyed. Though albeit sometimes I was slightly confused whether you're saying it's good camera compared to competition (eg. when you started talking about A7C). I'm very interested in this camera. Though I have hard time letting go of 4k 60 and that I want and need it. (eg. for slightly smoother and slowed down "B-roll"). I'd be using it mostly for KZfaq and self-shooting, and then learning and improving on it creating other videos, too. + dabbing into photography (most likely street and landscape/nature). I'm tempted to wait it out a bit longer to see if Sonu will come up with some a7600 or a7400. Or whether there'd be some nice discount on XT-4 during black friday (20% would prob make me snag it as that would make it around 1500 euro - BTW new sony a6600 costs 1600 euro here... ridiculous). Basically, if Sony does not come up with a new APS-C camera very soon, Fuji's got a winner
@3BMEP
@3BMEP 3 жыл бұрын
I don’t expect an a7xxx, but I have no inside knowledge. Waiting for Black Friday is not a bad idea in any case. I think it’s a great camera, but really, so are the others. It’s a question of use cases, priorities, and budget - as always. 🙏🏻😊

@@3BMEP Yeah, totally get that. Though it's hard for me to choose as I have no experience with "Real" cameras so I'm not really sure what I truly need. (Is that 4k 60 really that important to me? I know I wanna be uploading things in 4k, + 4k helps a lot when shooting and reframing myself, but is 4k 60 that important to me for broll?). Thanks though, and looking forward to more Yoga/Mindfulness/philosophy infused reviews and videos :D

Sorry for the maybe minor comment, but I was taken back when you said it was 1/2 the weight of the X-T4, which I own, so I did a quick calculation, and it’s actually almost 80% of the weight, body only: 415g/526g=78.9%..

@@3BMEP 50% would have been really amazing! My problem with smaller bodies, as appealing as they may be, is that the lenses they use are the same, and my 16-80 already feels a bit bulky on my X-T4. If I was more of a prime lens kind of guy, then the smaller bodies would really be a no brainer. Unfortunately, at this point, my grandkids move a bit too fast for me to put on a prime lens. I guess 2 bodies could be a tempting solution!

Hugh, I've been shopping for a substantial upgrade to my NX1. Cost is a major consideration. Livestreaming and communication with my Weebil-s matters (2 things which are very limited with the Samsung). Should I just pickup the S-lenses or go with a fuji Xt-3, A7iii, etc?

Also, I know that Pentax is a footnote at this point, but there's still no APS-C (and not even some full frame cameras) that match the KP's low light dynamic range. I honestly have no idea how Pentax does it.

@@3BMEP In your opinion, would you buy the 12-60 Leica bundle with it? I have the Lumix 12-60, but what attracts me towards the Leica is: With the bundle, you get the whole thing for 1000 (G9) + 600 (Leica) as opposed to 900 Leica if bought alone. Also, the fact that it is electronically parafocal is honestly a random shocking feature I would appreciate. Of course the extra stop of light means the difference between 800 ISO and 1600... Would you say it's worth it?
