Thank you, Thierry for this review. I have been shooting with the X-T3 and this video confirms I don't need to upgrade to the X-T5. I'm getting all I need and then some as a photographer from the X-T3 and only shoot video on special occasions. And LOVE your photographs... Cheers!

Great review. I do use my XT5 for sports, mostly polo. Horses are galloping up to 25+MPH and a good run of play lasts say 10+ seconds (the traditional word polo ponies is a misnomer today as high goal, the equivalent to premier league, is mostly played in retrained race horses). I set focus priority, CL/7FPS, AF-C (wide tracking and Custom 6) and find the focus on a Fuji 70-300 and Fuji 100-400 to be pretty reliable. Yes, towards the end of a run of play the buffer barrier is hit slowing the FPS rate, but I have not found it to be a real world problem. I knew upon purchase that the XH2 would be better for sport, but for me the XT5 was a more attractive proposition. Thanks for your review.

Xh2 has also a buffer. I am using the XH2 for almost a year and it has now so much buffer specially to preview my image after I shot

40mp means "crop" "crop" and "crop". It is not just for printing stuff etc. Take a look to Leica Q series and how they marketing the 60mp sensor properly. An APS-C 40mp sensor is a very huge leap over a 20~mp sensor. At least 1,5 times better and sharper videos, and way much more crop abilities.
@ThierryGibralta
@ThierryGibralta 9 ай бұрын
I did test the Q3 actually and yes you can use cropping to digitally zoom. But I would not say it is a HUGE difference though, when you compare both resolution

I love my X-T5. The only thing I don't like is that I still hanker for full frame. The reason is that I had so much fun with the 16-55mm on the X-T5 but its f2.8 isn't quite strong enough for low light, whereas maybe a full frame equivalent would be? Having said that, a full frame equivalent would be heavier and probably push-over into being too much to comfortably carry in my hand. So ... maybe the X-T5 is best after all.

If there’s a single focal length you prefer, I would get the prime lens with it, as you can get 1.4, which makes quite a bit of difference.
@mikefoster6018
@mikefoster6018 9 ай бұрын
@@simon359 Yeah I have f1.2 and f1.4 primes, but it's the flexibility of the 16-55mm that I miss in low light. I'm mainly using a 33mm f1.4 right now. It's quite a challenging lens, as its images are very 'as we see them' without much interesting distortion, and quite narrow. I like it though. It feels less gimmicky than the distortion you get on lower focal length lenses.
@simon359
@simon359 9 ай бұрын
@@mikefoster6018 The 33 1.4 is one of my favorites! As far as the 16 to 55 2.8 I already have that one and I suggest you just use higher ISO‘s!
@mikefoster6018
@mikefoster6018 9 ай бұрын
@@simon359 Yeah I'm not too afraid of high ISOs. With things like Topaz Denoise growing in popularity, I imagine people's relationship with ISO will change. Weirdly, I've started reducing my shutter speeds because I want a little bit of blur back in my pictures. I want essential faces etc in focus, but the occasional blurry leg etc looks quite good sometimes in street shots. For the same reason that aircraft photos can look worse if you freeze the movement of their propellers or rotor blades. The 33mm is interesting. It DOES feel a bit tight, but I know from using my 16-55mm that I use shorter focal lengths than 33mm too lazily (for the distortion etc). I want the 33mm to drum some discipline into me around composition. My favourite photographers (Doisneau, Bresson) used the 33mm focal length (well, 50mm full frame) more than any other I believe, and I prefer their shots to more cluttered, distorted classic photos from others using shorter focal lengths. I confess I do keep the very old Fuji 18mm f2.0 in my bag as a backup, but that's because it weighs a tiny 116g and is decent value second hand.
@simon359

@@mikefoster6018 For street photography, I basically use Primes only! The 16 to 55 is a great travel lens, and I like taking it up in the mountains for a one lens solution. If you’re using the XT5, you should have ibis help for low light situations.

The X-T5 is pretty much the upgrade I wanted coming from an X-T3 - IBIS, much better battery life, better autofocus (good enough for my uses), higher resolution LCD, and more megapixels... although I would've liked to have seen the X-H2's oversampled 6.2k & viewfinder on the X-T5. 🙂 I can't imagine what future camera specs there could be in the next 5-10 years that would make me seriously consider upgrading, unless it can capture great 3D pictures/videos. 🤔 What specs would get you to consider upgrading?

Good question… I am happy with open gate for my work with X-H2S, maybe in cam RAW capabilities but honestly at this point, it does not matter much… with the state of what client want, investing in lights/sound makes more sense

Masses of people, myself included, will upgrade from the X-T5 if only Fuji could perfect AF tracking. The X-T5 is good at AF, especially in single mode. But in continuous mode it isn't reliable enough to "set it and forget it", as you can do with the latest Sony and Canon cameras. My guess is that Fuji are losing a lot of customers for this reason alone, because their cameras are otherwise a delight to use.

I am getting softer images and more grain on my X-T5 than on my X-Pro3 and X-E3 for some reason. Can’t figure out if it is a defect on my camera or just the fact of this 40mp sensor. I got the same result on multiple lenses. Looking at some of the posts on social media, quite a lot of photos are soft or out of focused in some cases
@ThierryGibralta

Hmm I have compared XT4 and XT5 extensively and I did not observe the same results. The pictures I get are sharp. Now looking at what you see on socials is not a good idea, people often soften their pictures in post for style

I do bird photography with the xt5...I thought I had,a similar problem. But figured out i think.........I turned the noise reduction to -4. And fine tune the custom focusing sometimes I had it set too fast. And got the newest software update. Also I learned that the clarity and or sharpness doesn't work in CH drive mode. I also realized my phone screen display setting was on low resolution so I put that on high resolution. And made use of a,tripod, which I don't enjoy with birds. And also started using f13 instead of f10 on the 100-600mm. This made a huge difference. Hope that helps you or others.

I've had mine for 6 months and I've grown to hate it, for me the ergonomics are horrible and the lack of battery grip became an issue. The build quality is not great, the hinge on the screen is flimsy and I don't really trust it. The buffer and eye AF are terrible, I shoot concerts and events and at first I loved the IQ but the 40mp file size with no option to change resolution was also a workflow problem. I definitely will be moving on from these cameras I have 2 but it was worth a shot...
