At this point (with the engine being neglected) it doesn't hurt to try this engine flush or any engine flush for that matter. Like you said, that engine is probably on borrowed time. At least (or hopefully) there's no more starvation of oil throughout the engine due to the sludge build up and it can last a bit longer. Great vid as always👍

That is why I do my own oil changes; I had a quick oil change place do one on my 99 F150 last year and it blew a head gasket a couple of months later. I’m not saying it was the shop’s fault, but I also didn’t do my due diligence. Seeing this vid makes me wonder now. Yes, the truck was old, and had 215,000 miles on it, but it ran fine. I did have a BG upper engine cleaning done by a shop that pushes BG products about 10 years ago when the engine was running crappy, and I can attest that BG is a superior product when it comes to over all drive train health especially in high mileage vehicles. The COMPLETE BG service is expensive, but it covers everything from the radiator to the brakes. I highly recommend this procedure!

My Grandpa told me this story 50 years ago. In the 1930s, he drove Ford Model T Delivery Trucks. The Company he worked for was real regular about oil changes. When Detergent Motor Oils came out, the Company used it. The engines started using oil like crazy. Then it stopped. The oil cleaned out the sludge and varnish from those simple engines.

I'm old Skool, change oil at 3k, never understood trying to run plugs, transmission fluid and engine oil at higher miles. I have one vehicle serviced at Penn Quick Lube, filter is cartridge on top so I know they change it and the oil is bulk. Never had a problem with the guys that work there as they are attending an automotive Tech School. Other vehicles, heavy equipment and farm equipment I service in the shop, magic bullet is routine maintenance and the Amsoil guys, smoke and mirrors, never touch the stuff. Race car gets Brad Penn 😁

I was thinking it could have been plastic from the oil bottle seal which fell into the oil fill point when the "quick lube" place did the oil changes.
@dieselbronco9247
@dieselbronco9247 3 жыл бұрын
Most of the time these quick lube places charge you for synthetic oil of the proper viscosity but what you actually get is non synthetic bulk 10w30 and half the time they don't even bother to change the filter. My wife was taking her mini Cooper to the dealer for oil changes until the turbo crapped out at 50k due to carbon build up in the oil, after that I started changing the oil myself using liqui-moli 5w40 and hengst brand filters every 5k and no more high carbon content. Never did figure out what exactly the dealership was doing different but I solved the problem. I think another issue is these oil life monitor deals and these 10-15k recommended change intervals, maybe if you are running amsoil or royal purple and some high dollar filter you may can go that long but on the run of the mill oil and filters you get at your average shop I think 5k is about as far as an oil change will safely go.

And I use shell V power 93 in it and nothing else no matter the price a gallon the extra you pay helps the life of the car..and it's no extra charge for the bottled oil than bulk!!

Honestly, I've been hesitant in using a flush on an older engine simply because removing the crud usually does more harm than good. The idea behind it is good but if the crud has been there for a while, certain parts are going to have an established wear pattern. With that being said, on a motor that's on the way out anyway, what can it hurt? Might buy some time or it might not. Hopefully it does, but I remain skeptical. I wouldn't plan any long trips in it. My advice to people who own cars is never ignore maintenance. Change the oil often. If the manual states 10k miles, do it at 5k. An engine has never quit working because the oil has been changed too often. Stay away from the "quick lube" outlets if at all possible. Good luck!

As many times as you've seen me do plushies on this channel and never had one single come back and never had one single issue do you really think your whole Theory with it doing more damage is accurate? A lot of people say that stuff because that's what we've been taught forever and just sometimes it does happen but as many times as I've done it and showing you guys but there's no adverse effects especially if you do it correctly What you need to do is flush the engine and go through multiple filters while you're doing it you cant just do it with one filter unless you're doing a basic flush
@FordBossMe

Maintenance is key indeed
@codyluka8355
@codyluka8355 2 жыл бұрын
@@FordBossMe Cars and trucks are expensive enough as it is and to ensure you get your money's worth out of it, maintenence is the absolute key to ensure that happens. The average new car in my neighborhood is between $40k and $50k. That's serious money. I'd be hesitant to do a flush on my 17 year old GMC that has 160k miles, that has had regular maintenance, runs good and does knock or rattle. It's never been flushed but I've never let the oil go black...new oil and filter every 3000 miles. Would a flush do any harm? Probably not but why tempt fate. A bit of varnish can stay where it is. It's likely keeping some gaskets and seals intact. I can definitely see the benefits from flushing. I think it would be worthwhile to add this service to the maintenance schedule, every 30k miles on a brand new engine. Wouldn't hurt. But neglect and abuse you can't reverse...you just hope for the best. Great Channel! Thank you for posting these videos!
@LA_Commander
@LA_Commander 3 жыл бұрын
Great video. Folks, if you didn't believe in it before, by now you should know to always change your oil and filter using good quality parts minimum every 5,000 miles. I've never been a fan of the extra long 10,000 mile or 20,000 mile drain intervals. If cost is an issue for you, then just go to Walmart and get a good quality Motorcraft oil filter for $3.97 and some good name brand oil (they even sell Motorcraft oil there) and change it yourself. It's too easy folks. With the low prices of oil and filters we have in this country (compared to other countries, especially in Europe) you simply cannot afford to skimp out on oil changes. It's being penny wise and pound foolish.

The construction of the Pronto filter does not look bad at all in this video, in fact it looks pretty decent quality. I would even venture to say that the build quality of that filter rivals the motorcraft. Silicone ADBV, plenty of pleats that are adequately spaced, spring (looks like a Wix Gold re-labeled). Unless there was media tearing. I would say the potential culprit would be the technician that may have removed a plastic wrapper on that filter and he popped the center hole and some of the plastic ripped off and fell into the main chamber of the filter when he installed it. What was the Oil change interval for the oil to get THAT BAD??? Interesting video as I have never seen the process for a flush before. Thank You for posting this.

Ever since I took care of everything, it's gained back most of it's performance. The gasket has 4 molded seals for the spark plug holes that are held in place by a wide strip that is molded to one side of the gasket. The "bridges" of gasket that hold the seals in place were brittle like glass and most of the bridges were gone...somewhere in the pan I hope.

My question is what has changed in the industry , what’s in the oil or the engineering on the engine that is causing this to happen ? When I was in the mechanic in the field I had a 79 Ford Bronco ran it to over 300 K before rebuilding it . Sometimes it seems the more we advance on computerized components we start lacking in the mechanical end of it .

More like quick lube shops selling customers on price. They should be able to refuse selling a customer a $29 conventional oil change when the vehicle calls for synthetic. I see it all the time at firestone and the like. But yes, the oil industry in America is a commodity. Stringent oil formulations like Amsoil, Schaefer’s, Motul, etc. cost $10/quart motor oil, which means you pay for $120 oil change. If auto manufacturers required 100% synthetic motor oil‘s they would see fewer oil related engine failures, but also fewer sales due to higher running cost.

If you had a ticking sound and you're finding bits of plastic in the filters, you may have a busted guide somewhere inside. Hopefully not but you won't know till they drive it for a while. As a tech I've seen it all as well when it comes to piss poor maintenance.

I work at a quick lube and because of Ford’s lack of strict oil requirements like GM most customers just go with the conventional oil and cheapest filter we stock. Hyundai/Kia is the same way with how bad the engines sludge and carbon up with cheap oil on 3k+ intervals.

I love the concept of the 3.5 ecboosts, but what concerns me about getting one is that there is even more concern if the previous owner knew about how much more critical maintenance was to a turbo GDI motor. It's not like I can just take apart the intake to see the what the carbon build up is on the valves and make sure that there is no sludge build up else where in the motor

I have the same EX Sport but a 2015 MY. Wondering if you can share some insight as to what is the BG part numbers for the trans, rear diff, and PTU. TBH, not a fan of MotorCrap oils. Appreciate you time!

Seafoam wouldn't have cleaned this nowhere near as well as this it did, it's not as strong of an agent this is an industrial pipe cleaning application heavy duty cleaning application and seafoam it's just for general maintenance it's not really a heavy-duty cleaner it works over a long period Of time not a short time Nothing against you but I didn't quite understand what you were getting at with this particular situation in the video

@@FordBossMe I apologize the confusing comment so I’ll rephrase my comment. I change my own oil so I don’t have to deal with scamming quick lube places. And also in my opinion I use the best oil and oil filter out there ( Mobil 1 Full Synthetic Extended Performance Oil and Mobil 1 Extended Oil Filter ) so that my vehicle doesn’t have this problem. But as far as using the SeaFoam, anytime I buy a used vehicle, I put half a can of SeaFoam in the crankcase, a whole can through the throttle body, a whole can in the gas tank, and drive around until I’m low on gas and then I will change the oil and put fresh new oil in. Again I apologize about the confusing comment.
@FordBossMe

Yeah good thing you said in your opinion because that's not the best oil filter out there it's an extended oil filter and it does have more pleats but even the scientist girl herself from mobile commented on my mobile oil filter video and was saying that it was unfair that I was comparing a full synthetic filter like Fram Ultra synthetic to Mobil 1 extended because Mobil 1 extended performance is not even a synthetic filter

the TOYOTA/LEXUS dealership that contracted my shop was told by their entire service department to get rid of the cheesy kerosene oil-filter flusher that accomplished little if anything other than rinsing hydraulic valve tappets and actuators, and that someday they'd be sued over the dang thing. 5-years later they were and lost and had to refund every 1 of their customer's money costing them bank and their reputation. Cleary the BG engineers came over on another boat id do this to anything i own.

I've been told that running these engine flushes are really bad for the turbo's... thoughts? some say it's okay.. others say just run a good detergent oil and change every 2 months and it will clean over time... i'm dealing with the same issue on my f150 eco... regular oil changes and the inside looks like a tar pit.

@BlewShirtGuy

This is a good video about BG products but this comes down more to service interval and the owners diligence on maintenance more than quick lube places being bad. I've worked for an automotive fleet management company for almost 10 years now with tens of thousands of vehicles and processed hundreds of engine warranty claims due to sludge and we regularly use quick lube places and are constantly having to modify manufacturers recommended maintenance intervals because of issues like this. The Ford Ecoboost is no exception. Ford recommends no more than one year or 10,000 mi. for their oil change interval. We regularly drop that to 6 months or 6,000 mi max and we have no issues. As far as quality, there are many videos out there on KZfaq that show oil filter quality and Motorcraft filters are made by Purolator and have a paper membrane and filter to 20 microns just like most other bargain filters out there. No better than any others. Also the same same truck that stops at our local quick lube place also supplies both of our dealers in town with oil. There's nothing magical about dealership oil, as long as it meets the specifications they are fine using it.

I have a 2014 F150 with this engine and it runs pretty good, had misfire issues under heavy throttle which went away after a spark plug change. Currently at 114k miles. I want this engine to last as long as possible and part of me want to run this engine cleaner to get the engine in a nice clean state as well as I bought a catch can system for it. Any suggestions on running the BG treatment on an engine that runs well and is not in need of saving???

Likely that plastic is chain tensioners and guides. Those turbo V6 engines won't last lone anyway I'm told due to the turbo induction and the weight of the vehicles they are forces those engine to haul. Even worse for the 4 cylinder turbos. They should have designed a powerful V6 or smaller V8 naturally aspirated which will go twice the distance.

I bet some idiot didn’t peel the wrapper off the bottom of the oil filter that keeps contaminates out while in the box. Just installed because his boss said don’t waste your time peeling that off just put the filter on it will melt in the engine. There are some real geniuses out there. Good video. I sell Fords for a living and I have not made a decision on the ecoboost engine. They are powerful however if I owned one I wouldn’t skip any oil changes from what I have seen. They don’t like dirty oil. Mainly the timing chains. They stretch with long oil change intervals and bad dinosaur oil. I would only use synthetic and a good one like Amsoil, Valvoline or Mobil 1.
