BG 44K compared to Marvel Mystery Oil and Seafoam? Hope you enjoy the video!
From their website: "BG 44K® is 11 ounces of high quality detergents and additives that you pour right into the gas tank to restore performance and gas mileage. It vanquishes deposits in combustion chambers, intake manifolds, ports and on valves and restores flow in fuel injectors. Basically, it cleans the entire fuel system!"

I am a retired auto technician of 44 years on the job and have used many chemicals through out my career with so many different results. I like the Seafoam and it is priced right and does a good job. The BG K44 does an excellent job of cleaning the fuel injectors and oxygen sensors, and these results are proven on our high end equipment. In automotive we do not have a problem with carbon build up like the old days. You have very interesting test and I really enjoy your site. Keep up the good work.

BG 44k in my experience works amazingly concerning dirty carbs, it has a great ability to clean jets and needle seats from ethanol corrosion and damage. I’ve poured a whole can into 1/2 a tank of gas in a Honda CB that had clogged pilot jets and later that day it would idle on its own with no other carb adjustments.

I have used MMO in my old cars that I have had over the years because of their not so perfect engines. 50 ford Flathead, 55 Buick, 66 Falcon 6 and 52 Cadillac. They helped to keep the combustion chambers clean and helped me from getting valve seat recession from lack of lead in the gas. I didn't think it would be necessary on my modern Mazda skyactive. I tried it and drove the same 50 miles to work I always drive which is country and city driving. The week without was 36 MPG on the cars computer. The week after I started using it it started averaging 38.2 as listed on the engine computer. The engine was also remarkably smoother after that two week test. I mixed it 6 ounces for the 15 gallon tank. MMO works great!

You had the right idea running it through the intake. BG has a atomizer fitting that sprays into the throttle body, that connects to the pressurized cylinder that is also used to run the injector cleaner. When I use to service cars, I'd clean the throttle body, the run the 44k. Then after it set for about 15 minutes I'd use the injector cleaner. Always worked really good well and sometimes to the point of actually being able to tell a difference afterwards in the way it ran backed up by data readings. I don't know if the still make it, but GM use to have something called top engine cleaner and it worked pretty good as well. You ran it through the intake eventually stalling the engine and let it set for a while then restart.

I understand that you'd like to branch out into other things, but I really enjoy your channel as someone who tests engines and chemicals. You're in a really cool little niche compared to all the people who just break tools and call it a productive channel. I don't really care which drill wins in a tug of war, I'll buy the best value I can for the money I have at the time. Your channel is really good for that since you test things that are priced similarly and you also go into all the detail you can about what variables were at play and what might have skewed results. That honesty is neat to see. I wouldn't hate seeing some 2 stroke motor stuff here though, it fits your theme and I'm sure there's plenty of myths floating around that you could torture those poor engines with.

BG 44k is not meant to be used in any way but in the Tank. I used one 11oz can on a 36 gallon tank in an F150 that was have a cold start problem and carbon on the back of the valves. If you ask BG. The longer you can let it stay in the fuel system the better. So adding more to increase the concentration does nothing. Also if you looking to improve compression then you need to clean the bottom of the motor (oil). You need to use BG EPR 109. My wife’s old Honda Accord was running around 125 to 132 PSI. After using 109 all cylinders were running at 140 PSI. Then you need to use BG 115 MOA. I have been using BG Products in our cars for years and they back up their products with a lifetime warranty on the components are using their chemistry in.

BG used to put plastic coins inside the can: the idea (and it worked) was to get the mechanic to upsell the product/service to the customer thereby allowing the mechanic to retrieve the coin from the empty container so that it could be turned in for small perks. I've run BG44K as a fuel additive a number of times - it's the only one I trust to run in my car. When it was first introduced to me back in 2009 by an old mechanic, it was spun as sort of a "Super Techron", and that it would help clear out carbon buildup over the tank of gas. I paid $30 for the can of BG44k, which I thought would be snake oil, but I figured, meh, I have nothing to lose. It was absolutely fantastic, actually. After 100 miles, the car was running much more smoothly, felt like it has regained 20-40 lost horsepower (out of 350 that were supposed to be there). Power felt more linear, improved power delivery, everything. After 250 miles, I didn't notice any further improvement. Even so, I've gotten into the habit of using BG44K every 50,000 miles... I love the stuff. And it's the only stuff I trust to put into my Mercedes E55 AMG... I wouldn't dream of Seafoaming an AMG...

Bg 44k is a fuel injector cleaner. Its meant to clean injectors not the combustion chamber. I believe bg has another product called epr that is meant for combustion chamber cleaning. I like your videos but this one missed the mark on what this product is intended for. I would have liked to see what 44k did for a fuel injector with a bad spray pattern or if it stabilized fuel or helped with water in fuel. Or test Bg EPR against sea foam on combustion chamber cleaning.

BG 44K has always claimed to be a combustion chamber cleaner, among other things it does for the fuel system. The key is what is not listed in the MSDS, which historically has been polyether amine (fuel detergent)
@obeymycar1315
@obeymycar1315 4 жыл бұрын
44K is for the combustion chamber, and any where it can reach. If it stays active in the exhaust it will clean the Cat. This test is wrong, it needs to be under heat and pressure. We have been using 44K, ( now platinum ) for 35 years. The Poly ether Amine is so much more concentrated in this product, no else can touch it. The EPR is an oil product. It works from the Piston rings down only. The magic of it is restoring the rings to normal ,lowering blowby, raising compressing, and making the fuel control matrix better. I have before and after on real engines, not lwan mowers. This stuff is amazing. Sea Foam, its OK.

BG 44K was designed to clean olefins off the back of the intake valve to allow better heat transfer for proper fuel atomization in fuel injected engines. It also cleans the injectors for better spray pattern. It usually takes a day or so for better soak time. Using it in a carbureted engine is a waste of good product. Bell chemical makes a product that was marketed as combustion chamber cleaner and sold to dealerships as top end cleaner. It was ammonia based and contained 70% water that you sprayed directly into the carb. That was a fantastic product.

Excellent work! I have used BK44 for quite a few years and have friends that have tried it on my recommendation. I call it, a tune up in a can and my friends agree. I run a can every 3,000-5,000 miles and it really cleans out the injectors I believe. Of course I don't know that, but certainly I can feel the difference in power and if you have a neglected car, I think you will really notice the difference. I suggest using a can with only a 1/4 tank and run it hard! I wouldn't run it stronger than that because you may burn up valves. I learned the hard way and used too much in a new motorcycle and the bike started ticking pretty bad after that. Live and learn. In the coming days I am going to see how well the BK44 will work as a parts cleaner, cleaning up a dirt bike carb. Keep up your great methodical work!

Would love to see a video on hot soaks, but with more PEA based cleaners like Techron, Gumout, Red Line. PEA levels are kept secret so it would be interesting to see actual performance of PEA cleaners, and effectiveness under different conditions. Maybe test their detergent ability at different temps when used in oil.

If you have an accurate, sensitive, tachometer, and the R's go up, that is about the best indicator the additive worked.. When you get nothing gained at all, in any so called friction reducer product, you got scammed in IMHO... 90 % of this stuff is just greatly artistic written claims, 10% of these, actually does what it claims, and even more sometimes! @@POOKIE5592 except it does. look up the test ProjectFarm did. the e3 and the Pulstar plugs ran a generator on a set amount of fuel for longer than NGK and NGK iridium. Problem is apparently e3 giant heads like to heat up and explode in engines so I wouldn't use it, Pulstars are a bit pricey for the ~2% fuel economy improvement.(45 min with NGK plug, 46.5min with the e3 and pulstar in the generator test). Keep in mind that the angle of the spark and a ton of other factors can make a difference to how completely the fuel combusts with various plugs. hell, just making the plug(i think its called indexing?) face the right direction in the motor can make a considerable difference due to the direction the 'explosion' travels.

E3 is junk. Never seen anything with them in it stay running for very long before you end up taking them out and putting OEM plugs back in whether it's a lawn mower or a car. You won't ever make a noticeable gain by changing spark plugs. The most important thing is to keep everything clean and do proper maintenance and use quality parts when you must replace something broken.

I used to see the BG products as part of a major and minor tune ups especially when cars failed the dreaded emissions test inspections of the mid to late 1990's. The cars would pass with flying colors, but then again if you spent over $400 in repairs on the repeat inspection then you pass automatically. Most people noticed a big difference in their vehicles running smoother. They make excellent products despite being pricey.

I started using BG's EPR, MOA, and 44K when I bought my 2014 VW Passat SE w/roof new. 1.8 EA888 gen 3 with 6 spd. Tiptronic trans. No emotional investment, but I have original plugs and coils and 137,204 miles. Still smooth as can be. Long trips using cruise control 65 mph approaching 40mpg . By the way after using EPR prior to oil change then adding 44K (friction modifier) just amazing how smooth everything is. Maybe I'm just lucky, but I'm a believer. Going forward, next car will be using BG products also.

I had a 1982 Mazda RX7 with the 12A rotary engine, the engine had appeared to have seized apex seals from sitting for a long time, it would not turn over and a breaker bar on the crank bolt did nothing. I used a large can of Marvel, let it sit overnight then used the breaker bar again. To my amazement it broke free almost immediately and I ran that little rotary engine for another 100,000 miles before the internal water jacket broke.

Bg is meant for high compression, thats why it seemed ti not work on your lawn mower engine at only 120psi. That compression is yielded compared to the 190ish psi some of the older vw diesel motors run. It works great on thoses motors, but if you ran it thr9ugh the motor of your toyota it may not help at all.

44K is a fuel system cleaner and will clean all through the piston crown area. It works more efficiently with other products in the BG range. BG109 is a compression restorer. When added to oil and run for about 30 mins petrols and 45 mins diesels then whilst it is still in the engine carry out another comp test. We see fantastic results. It is not a cheap product. It has a lot of expensive ingredients in it which are wasted in a lawn mower engine. In our garage customers who have had services with these products used ask for them time and again. When results are given from its use it is usually after a tank full of fuel and around 500 miles covered. It's a gradual clean. Not a quick trip around the block. As a regular user of a wide selection of BG products I'm very happy and so are my customers with the results returned.

I can see that you made an honest effort to make a comparison so I'm not sure what went wrong. Perhaps something to do with the flathead design but I really don't see why. I've used 44k for about 35 years, eventually worked for them for 10 and been using it for 15 now in my own shop. I've looked down numerous spark plug and injector holes directly and with several borescopes. at least one head removal that comes quickly to mind and I've seen firsthand what it can do for injectors, intake valves and combustion chambers by cleaning up carbon deposits. The great thing about being a rep was having my customers, professional shops, come to me with "miracle stories" of how 44k cleaned carbon, straightened out injection/driveability issues and increased compression. Very rewarding. The msds does not tell the whole story. The active ingredient is polyetheramine which breaks down the bond that gum and varnish have on carbon. Some years ago they added another ingredient that increases the speed that the p.e.a. works. Neither of these show up on the msds.
