Joseph Parker says the best is yet to come after his first win under new trainer Andy Lee. The Kiwi heavyweight has conceded he took his "foot off the accelerator" against Derek Chisora but blamed an elbow injury, sustained during the fight, for slowing him down. Parker was knocked down after just seven seconds of the opening round and looked to have lost the first four rounds but gathered his composure to bravely see off a tiring opponent.
It was the final fight in his deal with Matchroom Boxing, and he is now eyeing an immediate re-match with Chisora, while Dillian Whyte and Andy Ruiz are the other possibilities. Joseph Parker survived a predictable onslaught from Dereck Chisora to earn a controversial split decision win in their heavyweight boxing contest in Manchester on Sunday.
The judges scored it 115-113 Chisora, 116-111 Parker and 115-113 Parker for a win that earned the Kiwi the vacant WBO intercontinental title and keeps him relevant with that powerful organisation where he is a former champion.

Look at Chisora's record, Sam Sexton twice, Dillian Whyte twice, Tyson Fury twice, Vitali Klitschko, David Haye, Helenius, Pulev, Takam, Usyk, Parker. Proper old school fight anyone anywhere is Del Boy.

Gave them all hard fights and arguably was robbed in 2-3 of those fights. Helenius & Whyte particularly stick out. Had he rightly got the nod in those fights his career would be looked at differently

@@lukebullen705 jo parker smashed Dereck. Chisora landed one clean head shot the whole fight and it was to the back of parkers head. every time jo fights a poem in England he puts up with a shit ref and even worse commentary team. He wasn't allowed to work on the inside against Joshua! Against white he put up with mma stile wrestling most the fight that didn't even get a warning and a headbutt that was ruled a knock down 10/8 round. And the knockdown to the back of the head against Chicora that any half capable ref would have spotted and deducted a point instead it was anther 10/8 round. Not ounce did parker complain or even mention anything! The winging poems could learn a thing or two from jo, fair play for a start!

You don’t know what he is feeling. 12 rounds of getting body punched and tying up grappling between punches thrown may have tired him out. He may have been feeling he needed to pace himself. He never impressed me. A large guy who boxes with minimal power, ties up a lot and low punch output is bound to be involved in many close split decisions. He is like watching grass grow. There are hundreds of big strong heavyweights like Chisora across America with average speed and endurance. Nothing special. You could see how this fight would play out from the first round. Chisora winning rounds early without enough damage and Parker tying him up until he slowed down. Nothing special here.

Totally agree! He keeps pulling back and watching for a couple seconds and then the moment is over. I think his confidence got really shook up when he got caught clean a couple times by Takam and, later, Ruiz. Would love to see Andy Lee drilling that bad habit out of him and making him more alert and watchful. I think it could fix a lot of issues and open up more opportunities to hurt his opponent. With his speed and combination punching he only needs a split second to hurt his opponent.

Joe you were lucky and not for the first time either regards Ruiz fight in NZ which Ruiz should of won in my humble opinion. harden your mind set to find that 'zone' for these big fights. sharpen your cardio another 10 or 20 percent for a start and you might make it to where you were and more. Ffs Joe move your feet 100 percent more. You should be moving and dancing on balls and toes and clipping them with shots all over your victim with angles and turning and hitting the fucker until your ready to sit down and end it. Don't think Parker has reached close to his full potential yet, yet he has beaten Ruiz, gone 12 with AJ, had Whyte totally gone holding illegally to survive at the final bell, and battled War Chisora for 12 and looked pretty composed an fresh at the end, hope he reaches his full potential before finishing up. Cheers to all these heavyweight warriors, who on any given night can take each other out!

@@jomi9858I'm a "local" I agree like many it was a very close fight between Parker vs Riuz, but do believe after watching the fight back 5 or so times, Parker did take the win on points, althogh Ruiz was the aggressor...Ruiz also got hit with big shots too...it showed on his face after the fight. Parker is an excellent technical boxer with solid power but has been guilty of not being aggressive enough at times. To me it seems Andy Lee is bringing some more potential out of Parker, his last Chisora fight was solid with a more aggresive style. Parker is only 30ys old. Ask your self if Parker vs Whyte was boring? I agree Parker has has some lack luster performances though. Joe Joyce will be a very tough fight. After watching this fight 4 times, this being the best quality Parker actually showed a lot of improvement. Good movement and shot selection. His fitness was the best I’ve seen in a while. He landed the cleaner shots. Andy Lee as his trainer was a big difference. His old trainer Barry would of had Parker looking for the knock out and Chisora is not the guy to do that with. I think Parker would of gotten knocked out. As for Chisora, why the hell did he bring in Buddy McGirt??? He did nothing for him. Outside of the knock down, some good body shots (a lot of them smothered) and a few right hands he didn’t make any adjustments. No robbery here, Parker’s team had the better game plan and made the adjustments. Round 1 Chisora 10-8 Round 2 Chisora 10-9 Round 3 Chisora 10-9 Round 4 Parker 10-9 Close round Round 5 Parker 10-9 Round 6 Parker 10-9 Round 7 Parker 10-9 Round 8 Parker 10-9 close round Round 9 Parker 10-9 Round 10 Parker 10-9 Round 11 Parker 10-9 Round 12 Chisora 10-9

Parker is doing well, one weakness that he has he waits for his opponent to throw a punch, he should throw a jab one or two and move. He's giving his stomach to be a punch that is the part of the boxer body when it weakens the boxer to be humiliated. His handlers know where he is lacking after a long lay off. They will know where Parker is at after the next three fight. Jab is back, more speed, he'll be very dangerous. Good luck with the next fight.
