The saiyans experimenting with their transformations in the Cell saga is so much more interesting than any transformation after. It's one of the few times we actually see the characters train towards an actual goal instead of merely just raising their battle power. And it's such an great expression of character with Vegeta showing his brute force mentality by just powering up further, Trunks' inexperience leading him to not realize the drawbacks to Grade 3, and Goku's martial arts genius allows him to bring out the full potential of the form through basic stamina management.

The genius of goku figuring out a way to completely master the super sayain transformation is underrated to me

The filler where Gohan is spending time with that girl is one of my favorite moments from the anime. It shows how effortless it is for him to be in that powered up state so well

This has always been my favorite form. And my head canon has always been that despite the different grades that Goku only figured this out because of the heart virus fiasco. Goku trained for three years and only started to have problems later on a little bit before the fight with the androids. It was straight up said that the strain of super Saiyan was what made his heart virus worsen so quickly. I think that after nearly dying from being over strained and realizing the amped grades would just be more of the same that Goku decided to master super Saiyan until his body acclimated to the heightened state so this couldn't happen again.

About the "mastering SSJ would raise his level more" interview: The context is that "mastering" means "training" or "continuing to train." As in, an on-going process of training over time. Training in base and SSJ would allow Goku to raise his overall power more because those forms allow for better training gains over time. If you trained in SSJ2, or SSJ3, you might lose stamina before you got a good workout, or perhaps the workout would be too easy, and thus not get much gains from it.

Super Saiyan full power may be my favorite form.

Mastered Super Saiyan is a good name for the form (I mean it's really a honed version of Super Saiyan). I believed Future Trunks used this form when he went back in his time to kill the Future Androids and Cell.

Uh... Goku's hair looked almost white in the Namek Saga at certain points, too. It just looked that way when the aura wasn't flared up, so it's not a grade 4 thing. But still, great video.

It's like how itachi has he's eyes always activated so basically he was training he's own eyes to get stronger they are all very smart after all

Vegeta said it best when he observed Goku and Gohan come out the hyperbolic time chamber! "They look like Super Saiyans, but I don't feel there energy! It's like... it's their natural state! Goku was able to master the super saiyan transformation by remaining transformed for long periods of time! His aura has a smooth like flow appearance as compared to the other forms were the aura is spewing out ki energy. He's able to maintain the mastered form subconsciously! The key to this state is energy conservation and not boosted energy output. Goku is able to fight longer and more efficiently than with the Ascende stages of Super Saiyan, and can even remain transformed for days without running out of energy. This is the true saiyan form!

The cool thing I liked and noticed was when Goku was exhausted after his fight with Cell, he remained in Super Saiyan. Whereas before, in that situation, he would have reverted back into his *ACTUAL* Base Form if he was to fight in Super Saiyan... So when you said that Goku's Full Powered Super Saiyan Form was like his Base Form, you weren't kidding.

Glad someone said it finally, so I hope this stuff is covered in the SSJ2 video. That's what SSJ2 is. Toriyama said that 2 and 3 were just extensions of SSJ1 - ways to stretch out the power. SSJ2 is basically a trick, making the body feel like it's in base form, so the same anger pain of loss trigger moment will cause the same rush of S-Cells and transformation, because the body feels like it's in it's base state. It's tricking the body to go SSJ while it's already in SSJ. And if you think about it that's why the guidebooks say it's 2x the user's SSJ1 power because it's literally doubling SSJ and forcefully/temporarily surpassing the body's natural limits. That's also why Toriyama said in that interview that SSJ2 as well as 3 still burns ki, it's the drawback to 2 for forcing beyond their max potential. And that interview is still not wrong by the way, like you said we've seen SSJ2 and 3 in Super, but the only time Goku goes 2 is when he's testing an opponent and purposely being weak, such as against Black where it was stated directly he was doing this. The only times he goes 3 at all is when he's showing off to Trunks for fun, and when he does it in the ToP but even there he admitted he didn't mean to and he immediately leaves the form. So Goku still doesn't use 3 seriously at all and he only uses 2 when he's playing around. In a serious fight it still holds true that Goku stuck to his base and SSJ forms until he got to the equally natural and not wasteful SSJG and Blue. Also please don't tell me you're gonna try and make a separate video about 'Legendary' from one about 'Berserk'? They're the same form and old Broly's isn't special you should just cover Kale and real Broly's 'Legendary/Berserk' one and mention old Broly as a side note.

It should be pointed out that despite once being called "Grade 4," the mastered Super Saiyan doesn't actually grant more power or have a higher "multiplier" than Grade 2 or 3. It grants the same standard 50x boost as regular, un-mastered Super Saiyan. It's just that the zero-waste nature of the mastered version makes it a lot more effective in battle, AND the ability to stay in the form indefinitely provides a substantial boon to your training gains. So in the end, Goku and Gohan got so much stronger not because their "Grade 4" was giving them more power than Grade 2 or 3. But because through SS mastery and training, their base forms and overall power increased so much that they leapfrogged past Trunks and Vegeta even though they were sticking to a "weaker" transformation.

It's a shame we don't get to see more variation in the various Saiyan forms. Seeing subtle differences in each Saiyans' mastery of their transformations would give the series some much needed extra depth to work with.

I think if Goku was shown meditating along with physical training when mastering forms that would be cool. Surely practicing maintaining a centered mind would help master a form faster than just pushing your body alone. Hell, look at Frieza after only meditating...imagine the massive results for doing both. Jiren is the embodiment of that.

He mastered ssj, no ki drawback and anger needed, Goku is a genius

Their hair is "white" colored because they don't have the energy aura around them. It turns "gold-ish" colored when they display their auras. I think it's stylistic at first because on Namek, you see goku with both white-ish yellow and gold with and without his charging aura. I think the coloring rules for the forms got established later on after the Freiza saga. Just look and you'll see that the general rule for coloring after the Frieza saga for super saiyans is charging aura on: goldish hair and pale skin, no aura: regular tone skin with white-ish yellow hair.

After watching this I've come to realize that (at least in Gohans case since at the time super saiyan became his base form ) super saiyan 2 could be considered a super saiyan going super saiyan. But what do I know I'm just here for the video.

We have to understand that this was retconned with the DBS Broly movie. Full Power Super Saiyan is a Broly Exclusive form, meaning that “Grade 4” doesn’t actually exist anymore. All it is is the full maximization of the Super Saiyan form. All of its power up front, sort of like how Kaioken works in base. Takes all of your latent power and pushes it to the front.

Geekdom, have you or anyone else ever noticed, also, that when Goku and Gohan are "relaxed" as FPSSJ, their clothing is shaded in darker like when they're in base form? You can see in the first fight sequence between Goku and Cell, his gi is solid dark orange, but when he powers up, its shaded with the brighter orange tones that are always there when he's a Super Saiyan.

We just went dragon balls deep into that.. grade 4! 20yrs later still learning!

I’ve notice a couple of games like in buu fury, supersonic warriors 2, fighterz and I think extreme butoden that doesn’t show goku in ssj2, and later on in the series I don’t notice goku going into ssj2 and towards the end of battle of the gods movie, Andddd GT P.s I love the transformation intro.

My favorite "sub" transformation. The ideia is absolutely great! In Super Toyo uses a "variation" of it in ssj blue vs Gattai Zamasu, when Goku put all the power inside the body. I always wonder if the saiyajins do the same with ssj2 ans ssj3 to achieve the full potencial in any transformation. (Yeah, i know that ssj3 is very instable... is only a dream to see a ssj3 full dominated)

About this form I liked that Trunks and Goten achieved this form while they where training to control their Ki in order to master the Metamor Fusion Dance.

Anyone who thinks DBZ is nothing more than cheap transformations and shouting matches, should watch these videos. They not only explain the nuances in the elements of the show, but it would give them a better I idea of how the show is really like, and why people love and feel the need to get in to it and make videos like these.

Does anyone else notice the similarities between super Saiyan grade 4 and super Saiyan blue? In both cases you have to get your ki up without letting it out. When a Saiyan goes to grade 3 they release a ton of energy just maintaining the form, but they don’t let their stamina drop in grade 4.

Other times SSJ2 was utilized was in the Boujack movie. Also, another difference in appearance is that their hair gets just a little longer, and more of their bangs get pushed up.

Its important to remember this form does have a higher multiplier than super saiyan. This is not regular super saiyan with no stamina drag. This form is stronger than the previous grades and bare in mind the ×50 multiplier only talks of the original super saiyan form used on namek, this form may very well be ×100

A couple of things I want to bring up. In both the anime and manga you could tell the difference in their eyes which are round compared to the sharp triangle like look as well as their facial expression being happier. Final thing is doesn't trunks eventually achieve this form too when he fights the future androids again? It might be harder to notice in the anime but it the manga it seems that way with the aura also being an indicator Edit: looking back I think Vegeta in the manga also has the form when they fight the cell juniors along with trunks because of the similarities they show when fighting like goku and gohan in the form.

I really appreciate Mastered Super Saiyan, such a state was interesting to me when I thought it literally had no weaknesses :D

Maybe Grade 4 does actually allow the user to draw out the Super Saiyan potential to its limits, but mastery comes in different levels. So maybe it can be mastered even further using certain methods that surpass the full potential of Super Saiyan while still being a Super Saiyan. Or at least extra enhancements like in BoG, Goku's Super Saiyan form got a massive power boost from absorbing the Ki of other Super Saiyans and later where Goku and Vegeta train with Whis and learn perfect Ki control, and so maybe they could learn to maximize their Super Saiyan powers even further by not having any Ki leaking out when powered up. Maybe in a universe where Blue didn't exist. 🤷‍♂️

I have an explanation that is just a theory. Grade 4 super saiyan has 2 states: Mastered, and full power. Mastered super saiyan has the exact same multiplier as grade 1 super saiyan. The difference is that there is no stamina drain or body strain. This leads into full power super saiyan. Because mastered super saiyan has no drain, this means a mastered super saiyan can unleash more super saiyan power, 10x more, which means full power super saiyan is not 50x stronger than base, it’s 500x. Super saiyan 2 is 2x full power super saiyan(unless rage boost like Gohan), and super saiyan 3 is 8x full power super saiyan(once again, rage boosts change that).

It took me a while to come to this conclusion, but I wonder if Goku and Vegeta in the Manga learned to Perfect SSB faster due to their training to use Full Power Super Saiyan.
