just did a quick google and rear brake light taping is to stop distraction, front headlight is for breakage

Finally something that makes sense, I have a cbr600rr-07 that is full track kit, get the HRC power up kit - ecu - loom, quick shifter, and this bike will be god like

I have this bike. When you lower the exhaust with those TST lowering links you do not need the heat shield. You do not need them for aftermarket exhausts either. Stock the exhaust sits against the shield against the plastics, and its all essentially sealed with no airflow by the rear fender/taillight.

I run this exact same bike at my track days. A couple of things that I didn't hear mentioned but IMO made a huge difference was 1) Braided front brake lines and 2) a quick turn throttle tube. Those front brakes will disappear after the 1st two laps with the stock setup and for me I hated having to wrap my arm around the clip on to go WOT. Excited to see this build series!

i usually get a little smile on my face when chase doesnt know something but i too was this many years old when i found out thats why they tape up the mirrors

One group that I've done a track with requested that you pull the fuse for the lights on your bike if you can, and use tape otherwise, which supports the distraction explanation. They also required that the mirrors be removed or taped, which could be for either reason.

Headlights back in the days used to use glass and required taping incase it broke and left glass shards the track.... but now-a-days, it's mostly for reflection/distraction

Taping the headlights breaking and so forth was for older cars that had actual glass covers on the headlights. Those would actually create debris that could cut a tire or injure a marshall. Now I thought it was only to avoid distractions, but not because of the reflections, but because the lights are still functional. So the headlight turns on, and the brake light flashes when braking... Those communications are no necessary on track

In Australia on most track we tape them up In case we crash so we don't leave bits of head lights and tail lights on track also if it's track only/ race bike we have to have engine case protectors so if in a slide we done bust engine cases and leak oil on track and also we have to run race coolant or water in radiators as it's not as slick as normal coolant. We also got to lock tie and bolts so that's oil bolts, oil filters , brake caliper bolts and radiator cap.

Spoke to the guys at my local track, they say the reason is to keep debris off the track when you crash, if it was to do with glare, bikes wouldn’t be allowed to be shiny and your visor would have to be taped...

Check out YSS suspensions. Cheaper than Ohlins but same quality and performance. They are so under rated.

Just came back from 2 Days on the Track and they told us to tape it up just in case somebody goes down, they dont want any shards or pieces laying around on the track. So iam with you on this one. But they also told us the second reason as well. with the drawing attention on your bike with brake lights etc.

@@Daniel-dj7fh up until now ive only seen tape on windshields to fix them :D but i dont really think so because on the straights you want to look through it. If you tape it you are basically flying blind on the straights

Tape is both for the blinding/attention of other riders as well as the tiny sharp parts flying around the track in my opinion. Did some trackdays myself with my streetbikes. If i would win (wich i cant cause i'm from belgium) i'd like you to deliver in trackoutfit so i can directly take it to francorchamps for some fun times

Sorry to say but a small correction is needed here. Taping up lights for track days is because of the risk of broken plastic or glass. You can't dazzle a rider with your headlight if they are in front of you.

The whole bike is plastic. Plus your headlights will be reflecting off of the bike in front of you.

The lights on an 08 are only on the fender where you license plate is (the fender literally every one removes)

i wonder how you would do a full-on track bike, while also keeping it a street bike? you can keep the street bits, but that's gonna be pain to change every time. I've seen street bikes, that are also semi-track bikes.. but not full-on track bikes (no lights, no mirrors, race fairings, etc). changing to race sub frames and brackets would obviously delete most of the OEM mounting points so that pretty much also erases the possibility of you using the OEM lights and fairings. i'm genuinely curious. :)

i think you should do a full on stunt build on one of them too.... cages, sub and engine.... handbrake...low gearing..tank pad..seat cutout.. first one i did it to was a grom and since then ive been hooked!

Brian is so condescending, its hard to watch, and you get visibly uncomfortable and can't complete a sentence half the time..!. I struggled getting through the Ducati build. Ive always heard all taping was for shattering, but mirror and tail lights for distraction/reflection ahead of you.
