Thank you for posting this video! I pulled the trigger and signed and drove mine home tonight. '24 GC Trailhawk White/black two-tone. Other initial impressions: This is a dynamic vehicle. Luxurious, aggressive/off road look and feel... and fast. 375 hp/470 lb. ft. torq. felt much faster than I envisioned. Thank you again for this great video. It's great to know that there's no loss on HP/torque when the battery is at zero charge.

Great video! Love my 2021 4Xe Rubicon and 2022 4Xe Grand Charokee SR! The SR night vision system is so worth it! Battery charge would only be done if you are on way to a trail with no charger, and you want a full battery to go wheeling. Otherwise start trip in battery save. I use Max Regen braking in town where the start and stop captures energy, but on highway turn off to coast further. FYI- Wrangler 4Xe Fan channel showed the brake light does come on when Max regen is slowing vehicle to warn folks behind you. For me, after software updates, it did seem less “clunky” on transition to gas. Yep, if you want a 4x4, and your daily commute is say 50- 60 miles with no charging at work, 4Xe is not for you. Get a Diesel Wrangler for a more consistent 28mpg. If you have a lot of short trips, and level 2 chargers and home and work, it’s a fun addition to the garage.

Thanks for the comments! Yes, the brake light will come on, but it's not always as ideal as we'd hope. I agree with your comment about max regen on the highway. Thanks for your comments - Happy 4xe-ing ;)

Great review! We love our GC 4xe trail hawk . The way it was explained to me is the system reserves 15kwh for all electric driving and holds onto the other 2kwh to allow headroom for regen braking to work when battery is at 100% to protect from an overcharge situation, and to always have some power in the queue in hybrid mode. Math adds up with a level 2 charger at 32 A/ 7.2KWh takes a bit over 2h to charge. Friend of mine has the wrangler 4xe, he loves his too.

2022 GC 4XE owner... Not sure if it's the same with the '23, but there were a lot of complaints about mode transition in the first few hundred miles before things appeared to smooth out. Also, if you get a chance next time you drive the GC 4XE, drop it into sport mode, and it feels even quicker since the ICE will already have been starting and idling, ready to go. No need for an engine startup reaction when you floor it.

Thanks for this. I am looking at trading in my 2014 GC Summit for a 2023 Trailhawk. I have been kind of wary of the implementation but this helps a lot. The turbo 4 was not too big of a deal as it is almost as powerful as the current V6 anyway. I am getting ~20 to 21 mpg with my V6 on the highway these days, but it has some topo in the drive one way and the other way is flat and I get ~23 anyway. For me, my usage would be like your wife's and we have charging in the parking garage across the street, but there a lot of EV's there too. But I could use battery on the way in and gas on the way home. Probably could use battery around town for errands and the like.

Great video Questions if you don't have the answers it's ok. Say you run out of battery can the jeep kinda recharge it self driving around ? With hybrid mode will you still get that quick take off power like it claims with electric ? like is it all one system. I understand with gas only probably not. Just say it's hard to charge this often like you live in a neighborhood with houses where it's hard to put a plug outside and charge where you can. Can this jeep run with no charge at all and somewhat charge it self while driving some what per say. Would this require dealer service for like special brakes and rotors since the Regen braking system. Thanks for answering my questions.
@JeepsOnTheRun
@JeepsOnTheRun Жыл бұрын
You can recharge the battery from the internal combustion engine, but the effecincy to do so really doesn't make sense to do so. It's a plug in hybrid, so a little different than a standard hybrid. Honestly, in every mode (even dead battery) you'll always get the full power. Yes. The brake system as far as maintenence goes is the same, not special pads etc. The brake system is what they call blended brakes. When you push the pedal, you'll activate the hydraulic brake syetem (like any other vehicle) but you'll also get the benifits of the electric motors regenerating and slowing the vehicle down too. These brakes will likely last a lot longer than a non 4xe for this reason.

You can run the Jeep without a charge, the only loss will be those electric miles. You can use the engine to charge, but from a savings standpoint it makes no sense. If you can't charge it... Just drive it like a normal jeep :) Thanks for watching! Thanks for the questions.

We are buying one tomorrow. The Mrs drives 11 miles to work at the hospital and 11 back then charging while she sleeps for 8-12 hours. Should she be using the electric mode every time she drives? She will be able to commute her route on electric. When in hybrid mode, the Jeep will always prioritize electric mode. If you don't have a level 2 charger, keep in mind it's a 14 hour recharge time. perfect vehicle for that commute!! If she can charge AT work, even better!! :)

Good video. But IMNSHO Jeep really messed up by not pairing that electric engine with a V6. They basically went with the cheapest option that would BARELY be adequate. Had they done similar to what Porsche, Land Rover, and now Toyota did, they'd have a vehicle that was very compelling to former V8 owners along with existing V6 and new potential buyers. Many have seen what Toyota did with the 2023 Sequoia and it's iForce MAX hybrid powertrain with 437Hp & 583 lb-ft torque! And the word is that this same power plant will be in the upcoming brand new 4Runner! So I'll be waiting for THAT vehicles release, and if everything is correct... trading in my 2015 WK2 Overland V8 for one!

The 2-liter 4 cylinder engine is the same as in the Alfa Romeo Stelvio/Giulia. Fantastic engine with lots of torque and good fuel economy. I can barely hear it in my 4xe. The non-sophisticated sound comments are just BS.
@treydrier3169
@treydrier3169 5 ай бұрын
The only reason imo to buy the 4xe is for the extra horse power and torque. Otherwise the minimal electric capabilities are not worth the cost plus having to constantly plug it in is just not very convenient. Unless you need to horse power and torque for towing it just seems logical to stick with the V6 and not have the hassle of a tax credit and installing a level 2 charger (another couple grand for hardware and installation). 14 hours for level 1 charging for what, 25 miles of electric batteries? If it were 150 miles or even 100 miles it may be worthwhile but 25 miles just seems like a waste unless you do a lot of towing. Just my opinion and I own a 2024 Summit with the V6. I looked at the 4xe and the cost vs benefit didn't make sense for me. And honestly, the V6 has plenty of power for 90% of GC customers.

@treydrier3169
@treydrier3169 5 ай бұрын
@@JeepsOnTheRun Doing the math, the offset to the mpg is the higher price of the 4xe and the cost of a level 2 charger and constantly having to plug it in. Even if its just $2k more than the V6 with everything else being equal, it will take several years of fillups just to break even because the 4xe will only get an extra 5 or 6 mpg. When you look at it purely from an objective financial perspective it really doesn't make sense to buy the 4xe. Just being honest because the 4xe will still need fillups.
@JeepsOnTheRun

I can understand your thought. I do own a 4xe wrangler and I'll say it was actually cheaper to buy a 4xe sahara than a standard sahara due to the tax write-offs and incentives I can take advantage of. @@JeepsOnTheRun True but the tax credit on the 4xe is $3,750 (not $7,500). Probably because it's not fully electric. And there's an income constraint to get the tax credit. It's good deal though if one qualifies. I do like the idea of a mild hybrid for the extra HP and torque.
