Try to keep a full tank of gas in your vehicle at all times. That can and has for me act as a backup for emergencies. There will be air conditioning, heating, and shelter for awhile. I also keep a few supplies in the trunk.

Wifey and I got a 1Kwh battery back up with solar panels this spring. Not out of any fear of huge coming blackouts, but because last year we had huge storms rip through in July that knocked out our power for 3 days and in the South without AC, that's pretty awful. with the solar panels, we can at least generate something and maybe run fans.
@chrisforker7487
@chrisforker7487 Ай бұрын
Many states make it illegal to have panels installed and use them for power during an outage. They are just to push electric back to the system.

I’ve been low sodium since 1988. So, I am an expert on this. No salt added soup is available in markets. More and more no salt added canned foods too, like beans! You can also make your own. Bread is another big problem. So, make your own and no salt needed. Cheaper, healthier. I use a bread machine. Interesting: new research indicates that high sodium diets (all Americans, ultra high sodium mainly hidden in processed and restaurant foods) kills gut microbiome, which in turn raises blood pressure and causes other health issues. So, protect your gut bacteria, be healthier.

I was at a local SPCA and offered to volunteer my time. They gave me a three page application that had to be notarized about my background. They also required me to submit a doctors report as to my health. To top things off they wanted me to pay $85 for a police background check to see if I qualify. This senior citizen did not wish to give up money just to volunteer. I researched the local SPCA and found the director makes in the neighborhood of $85,000. I don't think they need volunteers as they don't encourage recruitment by their tactics.

I understand you wouldn't want to pay the fee, but I think it's a good idea that they would check people out so thoroughly. There are people who probably want to do harm to pets or help them be adopted out to fighting rings or something. Plus $85,000 a year isn't an outrageous salary considering the responsibility that person has. Now if they made a million dollars a year then I would be disturbed by that.

OMGsh, first hand experience with the Puerto Rico power outages! We visited on our honeymoon...walking through San Juan Easter night, and suddenly everything went black. No one seemed surprised lol. We visited a very isolated spot to try some ocean night photography, and almost got jumped by a guy who had been following us. Naive us 😂

I once spent 10 days in India and Nepal. Blackouts were common, and everyone had simple foods ready, candles, fuel, etc. however their climate was more mild, less extremes so it wasn't like 100 degrees in the southern USA.

Clark touched on it, the reason people are healthier in other places is because they do not drive everywhere. Hilly places are irrelevant if your only exercise is pushing the gas pedal. In America, people drive to the gym to go run on a treadmill.

I totally agree about customer loyalty being non-existent, especially with auto and home insurance. When prices go up and you call your provider, they give a bunch of "reasons" for the increase. Finding a rate specialist is nearly impossible unless you get really angry. Even then, lower-priced policies often get rejected by underwriters. In meetings, I learned that if the company doesn’t want you as a customer, they’ll hike the rate or send tons of forms to sign. If you miss one payment, they cancel immediately, even for long-time customers. Yet switching to a different provider can drop your rate by 50% instantly

The diet segment is real B.S. Steak and saturated fats are some of the healthiest things you can eat, so I'm surprised at your surprise. Also, you need to clarify that the Soup you can no longer eat is most likely processed/canned soup. Make your own and you can control the sodium. Doctors know actually very little about diet because they are not up on the latest findings, especially how insulin really works to keep you healthy (or not).

Nutrition and health is so individualized that one thing may work for someone that won't work for another. That's why I hesitate with general statements about diets and foods. Add to that medical conditions, activity levels, sleep cycle, etc and advice is very specific to the individual as it should be

Fidelity is the answer
@akag-bomb5235

I switched 100% to Fidelity this year. I had accounts at both for decades due to different employers 401ks through the decades. When my last job ended this past March, I took their 401k plan from some other custodian and transferred it to Vanguard. The experience was awful and surprisingly, the problems were on the Vanguard side, not the smaller custodian. Taking into account this bad experience and combining it with others from Vanguard, I just ported my Roth and Traditional IRAs from V to Fidelity. I was a loyal Vanguard customer for decades however feel that Vanguard (like Apple) is cult like in the sense of customer loyalty and that my loyalty needed to be reviewed. My experience at Fidelity has always been good and now I’m 100% satisfied with them. I reevaluated the Vanguard experience and realized I had been making excuses for them for years based on a few bases points and now that’s behind me. I wish Vanguard well but I’m not coming back.

I read the Blue Zones a few years ago. I need to re/read . There’s so much conflicting nutritional information now with all the influencers selling powders , vitamins etc. One influencer is promoting drinking orange juice all day 🤷‍♀️. I do believe that the grid could go down because of international bad actors for how long is the question. I love hearing Clark and Christa’s personal stories! I thought you would end the show”Remember what we’re all about coffee “ 😀☕️

It is incredible how many more dogs many of our neighbors have since COVID! How about we do a better job of spaying, & neutering. And get a shelter pet instead of buying from a breeder (increasing demand and # of total dogs). Channel the money instead into hungry children in poverty via Compassion international, World Vision, etc. It costs less to help a child get out of poverty than to own one pet. How the neighbors afford 5, I do not know!
