I started just by having weekends away when I was still working. But yeah, it required a lot of hard saving money to get to this point 😊

Park your van at North Harbour Reserve and ride your bike on the harbour side path to Manly Wharf. There are bike racks at the wharf, or take your bike on the ferry.

Hey mate. You can get the ferry from Mosman bay Wharf. Free parking and not far from middle harbour.

So much to see in Sydney but the traffic does my head in 😅 and the expensive parking. I’m always looking to escape! Enjoyed your tour. It really is a great city.

Hey Jason, really enjoying your videos. I don’t live in my van but do get away for a few days every couple of weeks to enjoy some quiet time. I generally roam around a lot of the same places as you so I’m finding your vids quite educational. You’ve given me a few places that I should go and explore as well as some spots to camp up for the night. Thanks for the help. Lee

Great video Jason. Lots of great places to visit in Sydney. Luckily for me, I have a Gold Opal card which allows me to travel all over the Sydney train/bus/ferry network for $2.50 for the entire day. Thanks for inspiring video, keeping it real as always. Cheers, Sean.

Thanks Sean. There were even buses going in to a number of the parks over the last few videos....so yeah, $2.50 is great!😊

I spend a lot of time in my van around Kurnell & Cronulla - from my experience very van friendly. In Kurnell you can park just down from the boat ramp across from the Cook Cafe, just not Sunday mornings. Also Don Lucas Reserve carpark and a few other spots around Wanda Reserve there are always vans and no signs prohibiting overnight parking. Just left the area yesterday so looks like I missed you again haha

Nice. I did briefly drive through Cronulla and saw some possible parking spots. Bet it gets crowded with vans in summer 😂

Enjoying your channel. Do you reverse into your overnight parkups if you have to leave suddenly?
@MakingStuffGoingPlaces
@MakingStuffGoingPlaces 15 күн бұрын
Thanks Dot. I pretty much always reverse park, but not just when camping....I find reverse parking easier, particularly with such a long vehicle. In reality, I think if you need to make a quick getaway, you're in trouble regardless. To me it makes no difference if I need to reverse out, you can be blocked in either way. If you really want to protect for that sort of issue, then you need to park so you have both forward and backward escape opportunities. I do always have my keys handy and shoes on the floor in the front 😁

Enjoy travelling to places while watching your videos. Thanks for uploading. I totally agree your point to take longer routes to avoid paying tolls. We live in the Hills District but work at the North Shore. In the beginning of the introduction of M2, I'd use the toll in my morning drive, but as their toll increased dramatically, I stopped. By the way, you mentioned in this video and some previous videos that you don't enjoy staying in one place, so the need of staying at your Mum's for a week would drive you crazy. However, you also mentioned in the past that you are renting your place to support your vanlife. If you don't mind me asking, did you buy that place just for investment purposes? Or you were able to stay there for more than a week at one point, but later, your preference changed and can no longer do so? I do envy your ability to enjoy vanlife, I'll continue to watch your videos, but dare not do it myself, because I feel it's not safe for a female to do solo vanlife. Your view?

You know, there are stacks of solo women out on the roads. I probably see more women than men. I know I tend to highlight all the hassles I have at night, but I do also say if anyone has done anything directly towards me. Sounds you would be similar to me in that you would be hyper aware of what going on around you, which can make you nervous, but also is a good instinct that tells you when you should move on. Lock your doors at night, be prepared to move if not comfortable and use common sense....you would be fine 🙂 My house situation is complicated, but before I retired in Aug last year, I was living in my house. I've had vans since 2018 which I used in weekends and holidays and that's what convinced me I could make a go if fulltime Vanlife. At the moment I just want to maximise everyday, and being in a house doesn't satisfy that desire. 😁

@@MakingStuffGoingPlaces Yup, you got it, I would be hyper aware of what going on around me, and that would not be an enjoyment feel for me, so watching your videos is the safe way for me 😅 Yes, I'm aware of solo female on the road, I'm just too nervous 😬 To be able to retired and live a fulfilling life is gold 👍🏻 One of my former colleagues retired when she was in her mid 50s, I asked her why so soon, she explained, "Because I don’t want to retire when one of my legs is already in the coffin." She did have a point, and I heard she and her hubby bought a caravan and drove to different states, which they enjoy very much. While another colleague, in his 70s, still working strong at our company after 45 years. I wonder if I would dare to be like my former colleague or be like this 70+ years old colleague 🤔 (I was told by 2035, Australia's retirement age would be 70 🤯)
@MakingStuffGoingPlaces
@MakingStuffGoingPlaces Ай бұрын
@GiGiWellness28 everyone's different when it comes to retirement plans. I enjoy a lot of things and work was holding me back....hence I'm now very happy. I think the nervousness when you're camping does reduce as you get more experience. You could always start off in caravan parks and more populated free camp areas. But even if you can't, I'll keep posting videos 😉😊

@@MakingStuffGoingPlaces So true. My Dad worked till he reached his retirement age, then did voluntary work till my Mum retired. Since then, they travelled overseas often. While one of my siblings took advantage of the company's early retirement package, and followed our Dad's footstep to do voluntary work and did some solo travels. Few years later, became our parents' full time carer. Yes, do continue to upload more videos 🤗
