I'm about 20yrs older than you and seeing this really makes my day. I've done some what we thought were amazing cutting edge builds. Young people can now collaborate together with social media, and shop online for any part imagineable without waiting "6-8 weeks for delivery" like we used to. It's just freakin awesome! There is hope! It's in my favorites now.

Thanks! The tapered chute is a series of 24" to 12" to 4" to 3" ductwork reducers. The final 3" was key straighten the cans. I cut out an opening in the largest reducer to allow for the tossing of cans. There is a beveled disk inside the hopper which guides the cans and eliminates jamming. All of the exhausts from the actuators are routed to the hopper to agitate the cans so they don't jam.

could you design a 30+ can capacity hopper for it and still have it feed cans consistently? You wouldn't think a can crusher could have so much engineering behind it. This is truly impressive. I've seen a lot of can crushers on youtube and this is the only one I have seen that is fully automatic. Just dump the cans in the hopper and the machine starts/stops working by itself. bravo.

I found your invention as a result of a search. WAY more advanced than what I had in mind. Personally..I was looking to invent this product to be available to the average consumer. You probably have a patent, if not...you should. Great idea. Lower the technology and make it available. I would buy it in a heartbeat. Here is something to think about. Make it as simple as putting a can in a slot...and drop in a recycle bin, I would spend about $150 for that product. Good job on the Keystone cans.

I like the combination of pneumatics and motors in your crushers. What is even more fascinating, you are using a simple microcontroller to do it all. Even better, still, you thought of ways to make the process efficient, and and use the waste/discharge outlet of one to do another job.

Good automated and mechanical design for manually feeding cans by hand. Fill your hopper with normal dented and twisted cans and you will be surprised to know that no plc or mechanical feed will be able to compensate for different shape feed cans.
@Pistonpedal
@Pistonpedal 4 жыл бұрын
Adobo partially true. The cans can be different heights and sizes. Small red bull cans right up to tall cans are crushed easily. Dented cans are crushed and fed through the hopper as well. Cans that have more than a 15mm width deflection won’t make it in so this is where you are correct.

I really like the design. Very high tech. You posted on mine a while ago about what optical sensor I used. It is actually a cheap proximity sensor that senses metal. With aluminum it almost has to be touching the sensor in order to be "seen." I can't remember where I got it, but a google search for proximity sensor was the start. Again, nice crusher!

Thanks! My plan was to make it as easy as possible and still have the ability to crush any sized can out there. The only can it has trouble with are the smallest redbull cans or a badly dented can which will get stuck in the narrow part of the hopper. Material bill was just under 700 however those are all brand new unused parts. The priciest part of the build would be my time. I could likely re-create it in about 20hrs or so. Thanks again!

Main items were 1 Arduino, 3 actuators (there is a tiny one imbedded on the side of the black loading chute to hold the cans), 2 limit switches, 2 - 2way 5 port solenoids and misc. tubing,wiring and electronics. Lots of free time was the main ingredient.

Bad news first, Disappointed at the perhaps last third, it became a music jam video, which washed out conversation away. Good news, for the ingenuity triple score, apply for a design job, perhaps transportation, aircraft. You never know, if you make this into a public trash can size, how many bus stops and subway platforms could use it. A improvement could be a lift to make it ADA compliant, thus lifting the cans and reduction of litter. Next, work on them water bottles, saw off the ends, make one lengthwise cut and nest and bale them. The memories of seeing a video far out in the ocean, bottles floating everywhere!

very nice. Now all you need to do is drop the bailer level and increase it's capacity. Very nice design and looks very efficient. To get it to a consumer level machine you would have to include a compressor to make it turnkey/"plug and play" or switch to all electric actuators.

you need a barcode scanner to read the UPC code as it drops through to determine the brand of beer can being crushed. then add code to your program to keep track of it and also display that info on a screen. then you can see who is wining on the number of beers being consumed.

Not if you have to hand feed the cans. He needs to figure out a way to eliminate hand feeding. It doesn't say that he is "now selling them". I think you misunderstood what he said. He said he gets the parts from Princess Auto, Home Hardware, Emco, A&B Steel & Ebay, NOT that he is selling them there. He is still in the development stage. Its a cool machine hope it works out, but for personal use, I like the one that re-purposes an old bicycle: Lower tech, faster, no hand feed: watch?v=F3UVlN92I8c

Here is a suggestion. What if you added another air cylinder (for crushing on the left side) and added another can holder on the end of the shuttle cylinder (moves left & right) so in every stroke it would load a can on one side and crush/drop a can on the other. Double the capacity and throughput. What do you think?
