Macedonians occupied Greece but Macedonian Empire was a Greek Empire.Romans occupied Greece but it was a Greek empire. Turks occupied Greece but it was a Greek Empire.Poor greeks,hallucinating all times.

@@pranveraohri1204 Macedonians spoke a dorian dialect of Greek, believed in greek gods and could compete in Olympics. These are facts. Not my opinion. Aristotle was the teacher of Alexander the Great. He taught him in Attic dialect of Greek. When the Slavs came in the Balkans in 6th century AD, 900 years after Alexander the Great, the local population was Greek and fought them. Also, if you knew anything about history, you would know that until the Roman occupation, Greeks fought each other unstoppable. Even cities attacked their own colonies like Corinth did to Corfu. During all the years of the fights, the nations that fought were Greek, Bulgarian, Serbian, Montenegrin and Ottomans. There is no historic document about a separated Macedonian nation. 120 years ago Bulgarians started an organisation about the liberation of Macedonia from the Ottomans. Today's so callee North Macedonians are the descendants of Bulgarians. So, unless Macedonians were called Ivan or Boris, don't spread your lies.

You're one of those who believe in conspiracy theories and have never been in a university. 1) Historians worldwide have accepted that Macedonians spoke if not Dorian Greek, a Hellenic language. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ancient_Macedonian_language 2) Greek is an Indo-European language, just like Albanian. It is originated from the Hellenic branch of the Indo-European tree. Albanian is a separate language. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greek_language 3) Greek gods were not Pelasgian. There might was some influence but for sure they were created by the Greeks. They are of the same pattern as other Indo-European pantheons and mythologies. "Roman" or "Rome" are just titles.They called the empire roman because before the fall of the western roman empire those territories,including modern Greece, belonged to roman empire.And citizens were called romans NOT BECAUSE THEY WERE ITALIAN OR LATIN ANYWAY,but they inherited the property of the roman citizen.That doesn't mean they had roman/latin origin.Most of them were Greeks.Some morons can't just understand this

Antonios Foulidis Yeah, the Byzantines were ethnically Greek. They were Romans under the Eastern Roman authority and called themselves Roman though so it was basically a Greco-Roman empire.

The Byzantines were a conglomeration of people's, from Roaman descendants , Greeks as well as people's from Anatiloa and further east. With the Capitol located on such an important trade rout the Byzantines were far being exclusively Greco or Roman. The eastern influences were highly prominent in its culture, markets, military and architecture. That is why they emphasized it as the Byzantine Empire and not the "New Roman or New Greco nor the New Macedoinan Empire. It was the Byzantine Empire, and entity in its self. And it was glorious. I love Byzantine history and culture. And the Greeks did have a profound effect on the Empire as well.

Το πραξικόπημα έγινε το 1967, αλλά επίσημα η Ελλάδα ήταν Βασίλειο ακόμα μεχρι το 1973 και για αυτό χρησιμοποιείτο η σημαία με το στέμμα. Το 1973 η χούντα υιοθέτησε την σημαία με τις λωρίδες εκτός από ναυτική και εθνική να είναι και κρατική. Το 1975 η Βοθλή απεφάσισε την επαναφορά της παλαιάς σημαίας ως κρατικής αλλα χωρίς το στέμμα στο κέντρο του σταυρού. Το 1981 με απόφαση της Βουλής αποσύρθηκε η παλαιά κρατική σημαία και υιοθετήθηκε για ακόμα μια φορά αυτή με τις λωρίδες ως κρατική, εθνική και ναυτική σημαία.

Great video, but a few corrections: 1) The "flag of Constantinople" was actually just the banner of the Palaiologoi with the same pattern being used for the entire empire as well. Constantinople at that time had a slightly different flag, with that pattern being used along with a pattern of a red cross of St. George on a white pattern (kinda like England) in a square formation. 2) The Greek "sipahi flag" with St. George in the middle is actually just a modification of an older military banner in the Roman/Byzantine empire. 3) That sipahi flag in itself based its design on the insignia of a prominent noble Byzantine family called Doukas. The Doukas family ensign was a white cross of St. George on a blue pattern, identical to the later flag of Greece. The Doukas family from a point onward were based in modern Epirus and southern Albania where they controlled the Despotate of Epirus (a Byzantine successor state following 1204) for several centuries and covered much of modern Greece. Hence many Greeks used that symbol to represent them, just like many other Greeks kept using the double-headed eagle after the fall of the Byzantine empire.

There wasn't an official flag for the empire or Constantinople before the Palaiologian period so any previous symbols were rather common and used throughout various insignia. For example, the crescent and star features in the personal ensign of Isaakios Komnenos of Cyprus while the crescent was part of the symbol of the Dalassenos noble family from eastern Anatolia. Bob Make "Istanbul" comes from the expression "eis tin Polin" (εις την Πόλην; towards the City), as Constantinople was colloquially known as "Polis" in Greek and "Boli" in Armenian. This is the same as Izmir (eis Smyrni) or Iznik (eis Nicaea). So the name Istanbul is basically the same as Constantinople. Also, the name Istanbul became official in 1923. Before that, even the Ottomans officially called it "Konstantiniyye".

It called Easter Roman empire the historic scientist gave this name. After the 390 The Byzantine or Easter Roman Empire or Η Βασιλεία των Ρωμαίων had the greek language and culture as the main on the empire. The last speech of the last emperor of empire palaiologos he refered to the ancestors of the byzantine ppl or whatever you want and he said we're GREEK AND ROMANS AND NOT BARBARIANS (he was talking about the turks) so all of the people of byzantine empire knew the empire is greek so what are you talking about?

It was Roman empire with the difference that: They was speaking Greek They had Greek emperror Mainly in Greek core regions They teached Greek history They said they were Greeks AND Romans many times Byzantines - capital Byzantium Romans - capital Rome Thats why they used the term Byzantines, its an accurate term to use because Romans took their name from their starting point/capital. They don't call someone who don't own the Rome as the Roman empire.

you're wrong the Eastern Roman or Ρωμιοί they never ever in history of roman empire call themselves Byzantine but only the people that live in constantinople they could call themselves byzantines ( btw byzantium was an ancinet colony from byzantas). Also somes of emperos like theodosius was spanishjewish and he ordered to kill all of the people of thesalonika and destroy the city and he did that in every city of the empire with ancient greek statues and this kind of things. Also in Easter Roman Empire or Byzantine Empire or Η Βασιλεία των Ρωμαίων they banned olympic games, destroyed ancient statues and this kind of things killed many greeks.. IM NOT SAYIN' THE EMPIRE WASN'T GREEK BUT MANY EMPERORS HATED THE GREEK CULTURE OR BECAUES THEY WEREN'T GREEK OR BECAUSE THEY WERE STUPID. Nice vid you may have forgotten the independent Southern Greece of the mainland and some islands like Rhodes that were under the Venetians. The colours do have meaning with white also can be the colour of peace but I think like you've mentioned blue and white were important since ancient Greece even under Christianity. To me it just matches well with country blue seas and clear skies lol.

Here in Cyprus we dont speak greek, we are speaking cypriot dialect which its almost similar to greek but with some turkish words into it too. I wouldny say we are talking the same language but we have the greek language as the official language. We are cyprus, neither turkis neither greek nor american.

A well made and detailed video. However, I would like to point out a slight correction on 1:37. Greece wasn't "under the rule" of the Byzantine empire, but Byzantine empire was Greece in late medieval period, especially on 1350 that you mentioned. That is because in that years the population of the Byzantine empire was pretty much homogeneous (predominantly Greek), and the rulers were also Greek (Palaiologos dynasty). PS: I see that at the end of the video you correctly include the Byzantine flag and mention the double headed eagle in the army emblem though.

Greece was not under the control. Not the entire of country. It was always some free from them. You should have added the flag of Crete!! It would be interesting since Crete was under the Ottoman empire from 1669 until 1913 when it became officially part of Greece. It used to be blue and red with a white cross in the middle and with its 3/4 blue and 1/4 red (with a star) to symbolize that the majority of the population of Crete were Greeks and a minority Turks!

Thanks for the video, great job! Just a correction. The junta started in 1967 and ended in 1974, not 1978. Also, the flag was already used on all ships without a crown. Crowned flags were only used by ground forces and official royal events.

The Greek flag has a lot of meaning!! Blue:Color of the sea, White:Sea foam/white marbles! The blue stripes: Ε ΛΕΥ ΘΕ ΡΙ Α (5 syllables), the white stripes: Ή ΘΑ ΝΑ ΤΟΣ (4 syllables) (Freedom or Death)!!The Greek cross designates a cross with arms of equal lengths,while the Latin cross designates a cross with an elongated descending arm. So we can say that represents partly the main religion of Greece and the era when Greece was under the Crown(Orthodox Christianity/Kingdom of Greece)!!The cross remained without a crown after the fall of Monarchy and the rise of military dictatorship!This cross has another meaning too:it includes all the geographical directions together(North,South,East,West)!!

Few Marvel characters were taken from Greek myth. Wonder Woman. Amazonian from the Amazons in island of Lesbos. Just she was Americanized in comics with her colours, but they had to give her a back story of why she is god like and her shield which is the Aegis shield. But the movie did a good job giving her that exotic character and picking a girl that also is exotic in look and accent.
