Matthew was raised as a fundamentalist Baptist. His parents were raised in different religions, though his mom took him to church most Sundays while he was growing up. Matthew knew about the church in his teenage years but it wasn’t until he was 17 that he started to seriously consider the LDS Church.
Matthew was baptized into the Baptist church but he didn’t have a great understanding of Christ - repentance, change, and strength. He found himself in a state of depression. He felt lonely and miserable. He had a spiritual experience that led him to research more into his faith journey. He started learning more and more about the church and felt a connection with them. Would he be able to overcome the things he believed about members of the Church of Jesus Christ? Watch the video for Matthew’s full story!!

I love his testimony. In high school I was always impressed with the Latter Day Saints. They had a special spirit about them. The missionaries knocked on my door and I told them they were just the ones I wanted to talk with. It just keeps getting better. I love my Savior and my Heavenly Father more each day.

People don’t often understand that many come to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints because of antiMormon sentiments that don’t correlate with real encounters with members of the church. Great testimony. Reminds me of the simple, but incredibly powerful words of Jesus: "Seek, and ye shall find. Knock, and it shall be opened unto you..." You have to make an effort. Great message. I would add that the Saviour said, "Be not afraid." If other Christians not of our faith would have faith that God is not going to lead them astray, then those barriers, built up through misinformation, would break down and they would then see things as they really are. It is so refreshing to me to be able to look into other faiths without fear or without confirmation bias. I joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints 45 years ago when I was 29 years old and served a mission with my wife to Cape Town, South Africa and joining the Church was the best decision I ever made. There isn't much I haven't read about the Church, good and bad. There is nothing to fear. The Saviour loves us. If people would just honestly follow Matthew 7:7 then they will come to know for themselves and not be led astray.

Christ was not created. He was begotten. By His (and our) Father in Heaven. He is our big Brother in a way. And our Saviour. The only way we can get back to Father in Heaven is through Him. I don't know about Jesus and satan being brothers. I haven't worked that out, scripturally for myself. But I read that satan, in pre-Earth life was very high in authority & power. When the plan for our salvation in Earth life was presented (before we came to Earth) satan's plan was rejected & Jesus's plan was accepted. Jesus said "here am I. Send me." Satan was cast out of Father's presence & 1/3 of all the hosts of heaven (spirit children of Heavenly Father) followed him. The other 2/3 came and are coming & will come to Earth to get a body. As a result, satan and all who followed him were denied physical bodies.

Historically and practically, there is quite a bit of truth to that statement. Out of the standard works of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, the Book of Mormon sounds the most like and teaches concepts that seem similar to the Bible. If a Bible believing person were to read only the Doctrine and Covenants and Pearl of Great Price, almost immediately warning bells would begin to go off in their heads. If a Bible believing person were to read or hear Joseph Smith's King Follett Discourse, soul piercing alarms would go off in their heads. The Book of Mormon isn't like that because it was written before Joseph's religious beliefs began to evolve. I would invite people to think back to the tv commercials during the 90s that were produced by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. There would often be a delightful sales-marketing woman with a Bible in hand asking, "Do you have a Bible?" The Bible would then magically disappear and she would be holding a Book of Mormon. She would then ask, "Do you have a Book of Mormon: Another Testament of Jesus Christ?" The Book of Mormon has been effectively used by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints through its missionary force to proselytize nominal and less well educated Christians.

I love the parting advice at the end. To me, the position that extra-Biblical scripture is impossible, or even un-biblical, is mind blowing. Ask yourself this: if an ancient scroll was found that could be authenticated to have been written as extra material from one of the apostles, or new material from one of the lesser known apostles, or even writings from Jesus Christ himself, what would your position be then? Would you gratefully accept additional insights into Christ's life and teachings, or would you hold onto the selfish and non-biblical position "oh well, too bad, I was told the Bible as assembled in the 4th century is all I need, so don't even tell me about that stuff." 🤯

I was a Born Again member who believes only in a Bible Jesus. So i pray to a Bible Jesus, with sincere heart. Believing in God. I was led to read a Book of Mormon passage where King Benjamin says, there is no other name given whereby salvation cometh unto the children of men, only in and through Jesus Christ. I ponder if the book is from evil, why would it teaches to believe in Jesus Christ. Then it followed after reading a passage in 3 Nephi chapter 17 where Jesus wept 3 times because He was full of compassion. This made realize that as much as the Bible help me get closer to God, the Book of Mormon help me understand that God loves all of us not just the people who live in Jerusalem. But also the people He visited in ancient America.

Thanks for sharing your story and testimony, Matt. I saw the Spirit working in people like this several times on my mission. It was quite the experience to watch the Spirit convert and transform people. I often thank the Lord that I have the gospel in my life and that I know by the power of the Holy Spirit that it is true.

I have been blessed in my life for having been called as a Bishop (1977 - 1982) in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (LDS). Gave me the opportunity to learn first hand of the struggles people experience via personal interviews. I learned that people follow two different paths when they have violated the commandments of God. (1) They humble themselves and repent, or (2) they disparage the prophets, (both current and past) in an attempt to alleviate their quilt arising from the principle disobeyed. They seem to imagine that if apostles and prophets can be defined as false or "out-of-touch" old fogies not adapting to modern thought, then the unrepentant excuse themselves of personal responsibility in keeping the commandments. Of the latter group, some I know are now antagonistic to the LDS Church. Good interview.

💥Awesome testimony, the best part is that you earned your own testimony through the Holy Spirit. That’s a solid foundation without talking to any Church members. You are one of those chosen Disciples of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. 👏👏❤️✋ 1 Corinthians 1: 27 But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty. {with all respect of your scriptural knowledge}

Which God are you referring to? The true and living God, who offers forgiveness of sins, salvation and eternal life for free or the LDS god, who requires LDS church membership, 10% of your income, a 'worthiness interview,' believe the Book of Mormon is true, believe that Joseph Smith is a true prophet of God, get a temple recommend, go through a masonic Endowment Ceremony, get married, do temple work, etc., etc.?

A Real and very touching story. Thank you for sharing that. Sinnce joining the church about 46 years ago, on the popular social media, I have watched some stories about our church members leaving the church and joining other churches. For my personal experience, including myself, I left protestant Church , and joined the church of Jesus Christ of latter day saints. I am grateful that more church members are connected to the internet and are willing to share their stories.

Just remember. Martin Luther invented ' scripture alone' and 'faith alone' criteria for Christianity in 1520. They rejected 1500 years of accepted Christianity prior to that. So Baptists as descendants of Martin Luther are the theological 'odd balls'. So, good that LDS align much more with Catholic and Orthodox.

That's so sad, Anon. We Christians have bickered with each other for too long. I'll frankly admit I've contributed to that at times and it was wrong. As the world becomes less and less friendly to religion and Christianity in particular, we all need to build bridges, not walls, among all who claim the name of Christ and seek God, regardless of denomination. May you have peace in Christ and a merry Christmas!
