I found this book helpful and well worth the money and the shelf space.

Nice pitch! Also congrats on your great success with problem composition and competitions at the BCPS and so on. It's nice to see a talented orthodox chess player with time for the heterodox world.

This is a great book. I have not stopped studying it since I got it two years ago, and it has enhanced my overall understanding of openings even though I already had a lot of experience with the ones in my own repertoire.

Happy you are finding it useful. It's one of our best-selling books and deservedly so.

How do you feel about Victor Korchnoi's comments about your understanding of openings? Do you think he despises "the modern game" openings?
@gambitpublications6183 жыл бұрын
I would prefer to keep this area for discussing Gambit books. Viktor and I may have disagreed about some openings, but I respected him and was saddened by his death.

Which book would you suggest for detailed analysis of all openings?
@gambitpublications6187 ай бұрын
Detailed analysis of even one major opening is enough to fill a large book so to cover all openings would be impossible in a single volume. The out-of-print Nunn's Chess Openings was perhaps the closest, but that is quite out of date.

Couldn’t find the app version on Apple app Store. Is it only available for Android? Such a great subject for a book, let alone an app for those like me wanting to level up my skills. Please let me know how I can get it. Cheers

You need to download our free app called Gambit Chess Studio 2, which allows you to buy this and many other Gambit books in app format. There's a free sample if you want to try it out before you buy a book. Our web page www.gambitbooks.com/webapp2/HowToUseApp2.html explains how to use the app.

@@gambitpublications618 I only buy interactive titles that run on Windows. Is a Chessable version of FCO planned? I'd actually prefer it in Chess Studio, though, as Chessable is pricey and IMO this is a book to read and understand rather than train. I've seen in the Chess Studio FAQ that no Windows version of it is planned. I wonder if you think using an Android or iOS emulator is a good idea, and if so could you recommend one that works well with your app and is lightweight?
@gambitpublications6182 жыл бұрын
@@bluefin.64 We do not plan a Chessable version of FCO. While we do not officially support Android emulators for Windows, in practice we have had no problems using the BlueStacks Android emulator with Chess Studio. I suggest you try it with the free sample first!

can someone tell me how to read modern chess openings?
@alexanderleal17512 ай бұрын
It's readable, but you have to use an actual board and be able to read chess notation with it, as you experiment with your chosen openings. The problem with MCO-15 is that it's mostly tables and has what feels like endless variations (Ruy Lopez and Sicilian Defense), And past games... It's also outdated, considering the online opening databases that exist nowadays. I keep mine for reference; my go-to for openings are Kaufman's New Repertoire for Black and White(2019) yeah the newest version) and I use Nigel Davie's Gambiteer 1 & 2.... I want FCO for my son, though. That's why I'm watching this review....to keep him away from MCO-15 LoL😊

Do you think that the book is outdated now?
@gambitpublications6188 ай бұрын
I don't think so. The book focusses on ideas and plans rather than concrete variations, and these hardly change over the years. It's still one of our best-selling titles and justifiably so.

@@gambitpublications618 What do you think about chessbase opening encyclopedia compared to the book?
@gambitpublications6188 ай бұрын
I can't comment on items produced by another company.

Would you recommend this book for club level players? Most opponents I play against doesn't know much theory.
@gambitpublications6187 ай бұрын
Yes, it's ideal for club-level players since it focuses on general ideas and avoids very detailed analysis which is often irrelevant for club players.
