The combination of the runner passing the ball and the inertia often makes the ball travel forward despite a backwards pass. It’s the direction of the James that show which way the ball was intended to go. So there are often are what we think is forward and what is actually forward.

Think of it this way, once the whistle has blown for a knock on against green, do you think then black can just quickly do high tackles and possibly injuring one of greens players? Or perhaps even quickly punch a green player because with your logic no rules apply after the whistle has blown. That's why he turned over the ball to green because black was penalized for foul play even after the whistle.

@@jaanc8047 absolutely, Dupont is renowned for ridiculous strength for his size .. he’s very compact and used his body leverage so effectively. I would say I’d rather attempt to stop Hansen than Savea at shortstop notice though! That’s what made Eben’s so amazing last year, he’s in the worst body position possible.. he just uses his upper body strength and not much else. Dupont gets underneath Hansen and leg drives. I know it’s expected of Eben and he’s 120kgs + but still, it’s amazing

The ball bounces nearly a metre forward from where it was last touched.. equals a knock on. Jordan motions to hit backwards but the ball still goes slightly forward.

A knock on is black and white on where the ball lands from where it is initially hit.. its not ruled the same as a pass that can float forward even when thrown back. Plus he's not passing it anyway.. so its forward from wherever the ball is contacted and where it lands.
